Worth is determined by the player.

I thought they were really expensive.... I mean, 40 some gold for 3 or 4 attribute points? Whoeee...

If you have money to burn and nowhere to do so, then sure. Otherwise it's not the first thing I'd run off to buy, no.

i would of only considered getting em if they were each worth 4 or 5 points, as they are? no

All depends what else you're considering buying, doesn't it? If you have free gold then obviously they're worth it.
eta: where is the greater mortal vessel tome?
I've somehow never seen it.

Maybe if you do every quest, have max coercion, locpick all chests for extra loot and steal from everybody you would get the money to buy all the best gear for everyone in your party + all talent tomes, a multitude of all kinds of potions and stuff and still have money over for the skill tomes, but otherwise no.

Theres also general group composition to think about. Its possible to make this game very hard for yourself and minmaxing a good tank might benifit the group more than a dps dagger or the like would. Long story short it might be worth it to really opt your tank since the rest of the group isnt going to be able to (or supposed to) handle boss level spanking.

Well, give away money ( which you can gain in the game) for free stats is not a problem for me at all. Its like some quests that you have to spend money for xp.. I dont even think on it.. money can be gain in many different ways, xp and stats allways stands. Neverless i agree, if its expensive or not depends of the player-

Again someone mentions the +2 tome. Is it even in the game?
I found a grand total of two +1 tomes and to my knowledge that's pretty much all you CAN get. And yes they're worth it. You definitely have enough gold that it isn't an issue to buy these. They're actually kind of cheap by the end of the game.

I buy the ones for skills/spells because otherwise I'd never get to use the "crappier" spells. I just wish there was a better shortcut system for casting more than 19 spells.

I dont know if you have the pc version but you can enlarge the quickslot bar to all the bottom part, mainly 25 or so slots, by using the lock in the quickbar.

I always buy Tomes, as the game has finite EXP.

I found one in the pro-Bhelen market stand near DustTown entrance in Orzammar.
Spend 10-15 gold, got 1 attribute point. Severely underwhelmed by experience.

Yeah, I was kinda expecting 3 attribute points (a full level's worth, like the talent/spell books), won't buy again.

No, the tooltip for whatever reason says it can give multiple but I've used it 4 times it's never given more than one.

I almost always finish the game with 200+ gold that goes to waste. It's a question of timing when you grab the tomes.

Personal strength & skill that don't depend on magic items or buffs, is always highly valued by me for roleplaying purposes.
In purely gameplay terms, yes, other things are more useful to make your party fearsome in combat.

If you have the extra gold late game, take them, otherwise save your cash.

The only time I was happy with them was when I got my first brilliant crystals for Shale, and realised I hadn't pumped Con enough and had just levelled.

Buy them almost all for your "game ending team" and then give the rest of your money to the Redcliff Army for the extra XP, might gain another level ..thats after making sure of being well equipped with lots of potions for the last battle

I still think, for most players, you'll find gold better spent on magic item upgrades for the team--those 50+ gold rings, staves, betls, etc.
It obviously depends on the details--Shale and the Dog can't use much, obviously.

I once found a Tome of Skill and Sundry on Zathrian, but I think that was probably a mod I had which improved boss drops. I will never know.

One consideration... the +1 Dexterity is the same as +1 defense and +1 attack. It sticks with you even if you upgrade every piece of armor and your weapon(s).
If you consider it a bonus to every weapon you'll ever own (like an extra novice rune, etc) then it becomes more attractive. It's not the cheapest way to get more powerful, but it's one that will always be with you and you won't sell at a loss later.
