Sorry If this post has been done before, I could find much searching the forum...but I was just curious if anyone here spends real money to unlock in game packs....if so how much and do you limit yourself somehow? I had a friend blow 20 bucks unlocking stuff because he didn't know what else to get with his ms points...

Personaly I think its a really stupid feature of the game, and I hate how easliy it undermines the challenge of taking time to earn rare items, but obviously it works for some, and is a pretty easy extra source of money for BW/EA. And I appreciate those of you who pay for my DLC :D

Any thoughts?

It's not worth spending real money when you don't know what you'll be getting. IMO at least.

I only really spend it if I have the odd denomination of points that makes it possible to get anything else (240 or whatever) otherwise I don't bother. I like to support the free DLC, but I don't spend money purposefully on an entirely random thing either.

I suppose it works. If people really want to spend money on packs its their money to waste. So long as there is an in game means to get the packs it really doesn't matter.
On a personal note I did buy a pack once but only because I had left over XBL points so I said what the hell and got a pack.

I tried it once the other day for a spectre pack since I had unused points but I got garbage out of it so I won't be doing that again.  If the prices were cheaper I would be tempted to do more often, even if they had sales once every so often on selected packs.

I think it's awesome. If people continue to *choose* to pay, the better probability Bioware will continue to support and expand the game for everybody. Also, users that pay don't get any special advantage, they just get stuff faster. If you have $20 to blow on imaginary weapons, who am I to stop you?

As long as it's voluntary and fair, it's a very well done system. Micro-transactions for in-game content are the future of video gaming anyways. Get used to it.

Spending money for a couple pixelated items? Hell no.

i think the price is too high. Was recently thinking about buying some. calculated how much euros 240 BW points are and then dropped the issue completely... (i think half the price or less would be ok as its all just digital and randomly on top of that but 240BW points? I rather buy an dlc then like from ashes).

You bought a computer video game. ;)

And yeah, I've bought some bioware points to blow on packs.  I had the money to blow, it's my money to do with as I like, and frankly I suck at MP so this is my chance to improve my equipment and help my teammates.  So why not?

Spending money for items that have a high chance of not being useful to me at all? No, I'm not stupid.

I have not done so. Since I have been using Bing Rewards to get free MS Points for the past 6 months. I have been tempted. I would trading time wasted at work for random ME3 packs. I still couldn't do it. I'd rather use the free points on actual DLC.

It's none of my biz what people do with their cash.

That said, people who spend hard earned on random, virtual items that - at best - marginally improve performance in a time sink or - at worst - do nothing more than impress kids, are pretty foolish.

Not everyone has the time to play for dozens or hundreds of SP's and PSP's.on top of that, not everyone has the skill to play gold or even silver, so it is slow going for those people to buy tons of packs.

That being said, I usually buy around $20 worth of MS points to rent movies, buy Arcade games, etc. It's part of my monthly entertainment budget. However, if I'm playing ME3, I'm not buying other games or watching movies, so they go toward buying packs just to up my chance of getting some ultra-rares. I usually limit myself to five bought SP's or PSP's a month, though. Don't want to blow all my points/cash on packs.

I may be foolish and stupid, but I'm the customer base that helps keep these DLCs free for the rest of you :)

Ohiocat unfortunately you are right, which is why I try not to encourage it by spending money after buying the game. But since the game is cooperative and has the same purchase options with in game currency, I can live with it.

I have only spent Xbox live reward points on the packs. But nah, I haven't and don't plan to spend actual cash on such a random store.

I've spend about $20 dollars, for two reasons.

1) In sort of support of the game, since the first (now second) DLC was free.

2) Because I really wanted (still do) an Asari Justicar, but nothing yet.

But that was it for me, I found that the RNG store is not worth spending real money on if you're not going to get what you want... But then again, people would just move on to something else (some have already) if the store were that easy :P

I see in this way (for me)

1) one hour of my job will give me roughly 80 bucks, ergo about 24 PSP.
2) if I farm it will take me 6-7 hours to complete for 24 PSP.
3) time is more valuable for me than money
4) Yes, I occasionally toss 79 bucks for 24 PSP.
