Spending money in this game is like buying lottery tickets--except you have no chance to win more than you put in.

Ohiocat unfortunately you are right, which is why I try not to encourage it by spending money after buying the game. But since the game is cooperative and has the same purchase options with in game currency, I can live with it.

I don't like it either, but if we want to keep seeing AAA titles from developers, we're pretty much going to have to. Don't blame Bioware or even EA. Blame Farmville, Angry Birds, and MMOs.

I did, when I got Mass Effect 3 last week I had 230 MSP left over so I just spent it to get me started.

Sorry If this post has been done before, I could find much searching the forum...but I was just curious if anyone here spends real money to unlock in game packs....if so how much and do you limit yourself somehow? I had a friend blow 20 bucks unlocking stuff because he didn't know what else to get with his ms points...

Personaly I think its a really stupid feature of the game, and I hate how easliy it undermines the challenge of taking time to earn rare items, but obviously it works for some, and is a pretty easy extra source of money for BW/EA. And I appreciate those of you who pay for my DLC :D

Any thoughts?

Search worked fine for me.....

Nope. It's really overpriced imo. If it was 80 msp for a PSP pack I'd consider it.

i've spent money on buying packs but honestly never more than 20$ at at time and never more than once a month usually when new DLC first comes out and im excited to start unlocking stuff but don't have the credits for it... I don't mind paying for something that i like and if it helps to make future dlc and content that much better i say what the hay :P

lol no. Why pay money for something you can get for free. Especially when you're not guarantied the result you want.

No, only because i would get frustrated in not getting what i want, and could easily end up getting carried away.

I spend real money on store items and have done so from day one. Why not if it's something I can clearly afford to do. Breaks down to how much time I have to play vs. what items I would like to have to play with.
Conversely, I purchased the game for my two nephews and warned them ahead of time, they'd have to put allot of time playing to hope to get the character classes and weapons they wanted.

I spent about $20 a little after I started playing multiplayer. I put in $15 and had some bioware points, or whatever they are called on PC, from buying ME2 dlc.

I won't spend real money now because I have all gold guns maxed. There would be no point.

I'll buy a few packs after a new DLC comes out, helps keep it free and I have a chance at getting a new character (the only things from DLC I care about besides the maps)

Personally, I think if you're going to spend 240 MS Points, you should be able to pick one or 2 of the rares in your pack or something, i've been screwed over quite a lot.

1st 2 months about $200, after that $5-10 weakly, just pocket change and it has been worth every penny, servers cost money, every one spends money on hobbys and toys, some play the lotto, some drink, some smoke it away, and spending money on MP toys is cheaper then any thing else I listed (with in reason of coarse)
give your self a limit I'm down to $20 a month now, do I need it with my rank no but it does not hurt the wallet

I guess that makes me privy to a percentage of your winnings. Say 50? :D

If the packs were cheaper then maybe yes I would, but right now they are way too overpriced to spend any real money on.

I've spent a total of 10-15 bucks on the store. I won't be doing anything like that again. >.<

I've spent a hundred dollars or so. That was before I started playing multiplayer so I could have a few guns.

And no, I hate farming, I just want to shoot, I want to get stuck because of game difficulty or length, but I hate farming. For me, there are only 24 hours in a day, 8 of it I spend sleeping, the rest goes into going out, partying, work, reading and playing games.

I drop 5 bucks or so on the game every now and then. It's like a treat for myself, like an ice cream cone.

Spent about £25. To be honest it wasn't wholly necessary, but I don't particularly regret doing so. It was a good way to get a few extra, interesting characters and guns when I started playing the multiplayer.

I see in this way (for me)

1) one hour of my job will give me roughly 80 bucks, ergo about 24 PSP.
2) if I farm it will take me 6-7 hours to complete for 24 PSP.
3) time is more valuable for me than money
4) Yes, I occasionally toss 79 bucks for 24 PSP.

I'm in the same boat. I have money to spend and it isn't to impress people. I just don't have as much time as others to play, so if I feel like dropping some money on points, then I will. People who say its dumb can't speak for everyone else and probably don't have much income so they have to be pickier on what the use their money on. Simple economics.

I dropped about $15 last night didn't really get anything good. I was hoping to unlock a new character or weapon. I doubt I'll drop anymore real money.

I have done $50 over the past few months but agree its to expensive for what you get so I am probably done until they revamp it. I like to support Bioware though so don't mind what I have done already.

It's not worth spending real money when you don't know what you'll be getting. IMO at least.

This. Only, I can't help myself. I buy and am ashamed to do so. I wouldn't mind paying, if it wasn't for the fact that sometimes you get nothing in return. I buy a premium spectre pack for 240 MS points and my reward is disruptor ammo 3, strength enhancer 3 and cyclonic shield 3. Thats it. I got two rare faces, but I already had them maxed in XP and customization (yet I still haven't gotten a single Male Quarian Infiltrator /RAAAGE) so they just disappear into nothing. I paid for nothing (I don't consider the common equipment due to the fact that I have lots of them already). I wish they would fix the character card thing and give SOMETHING worthwhile instead.

Like most that spend real money I dont have alot of time to play. So when I do play I want to be able to play what I want with what I want. If my chances to get those items I want are increased by me spending real money then I do. I have spent about $100 extra bucks so far on MS points but that has been since release. It my entertainment expense. Yea it non tangible pixelated goods but you know what if I i spent it on food or drink I would only enjoy those once as opposed to enjoying it every time I play the game.
