couldnt get anyone to join the game I hosted with a friend of mine.
even changed it to FBWGG just to test it. but nothing for 13mins straight.
and when I try to join quick matches, most of the time I end up in empty lobbies with presets.

I don't know what are you talking about ! My lobby fills under a minute.
First all you whiners, momma's boys & crybabies "DEMENDED" fair matchmaking depending on your skill/N7 level, now you have it & you're whining again. Debating if N7 level is mirror of your skill - I won't go there.
Personally I'm very happy with this change. My random gold PuG matches time is now between 20-25 minutes on all maps & before this change it could last up to 45 minutes ( I know, I know I almost killed myself after seeing timer at the end of match ).
Yesterday, gold match of randoms on Giant - difference between N7 level of all players was 50-100 points. All with good guns/equipment. Enjoyment to play. Everybody knows what they're doing. (MagicMuffinMan - thanks for excellent game). No problem completing objectives even without mic. communication.
No more retards running around maps, meesing up spawn points, L337 Mantis 5 palyers on gold with Sniper Rifle Mod etc..
Im happy for you, it must be nice to fill upp a lobby, and to fill it upp that fast. woaw.

Then you are one of the lucky ones. But please at least acknowledge, that there are not just a handful for which the lobby doesn't fill in under a minute. I had one open 10min and only one joined and left after 5min (who wouldn't?)

Again - you're one of the lucky ones. But for people who are rather high in their N7 rank, the new matchmaking tries forever to find matching players. I'm fully aware, that N7 rank says nothing about skill, I haven't even figured out have the classes and weapons myself. But now I get punished for promoting my characters, having fun leveling them up, trying different builds and not leaving my class at 20 forever.

Well the N7 rank didnt mean a lot.
Yes with a higher rank its more likely that the group is better but the trade effect is, thats its sometimes need some time to find a game.
I think in the end its not worth in general but i think it would be nice to add it as option for creation and searching of lobbys:
Public free for All, Public with similar Rank and Privat.
I think would offer the best solution in the end.

God I hope that was sarcasm. A few months ago I would have been sure it was. But after seeing self-centred <snip description that breaks not just rules but laws> opposed to changing the geth vision so it doesn't cause physical pain to players because it didn't affect them personally, as if they are the only ones who count and problems that doesn't affect them personally shouldn't be fixed... I just can't tell anymore. Faith in humanity dropping.

I think there's room for a compromise though for the folks who like the new system. Say Bioware, would it be too much work to revert back to the old system by default and leave the new one optional?

Usually I play with people from the friendslist but often enough we might only be 3 people and open up the last slot for public. And before the patch this spot was filled within seconds and now we can often sit there for 10 minutes and nothing happens, especially when selecting unknown map, unknown enemy.
