I don't know. I kind of like it so far. I'm somewhere around 440, and it makes it easier to find a decent random/random/gold game

I hope this thread is seen as something of an online petition.  Register me for DO NOT like the matchmaking.  I played 4-5 random games last night and was waiting 5+ minutes every time for a lobby to fill up.  At one point, three of us just decided to do the game ourselves because we got tired of waiting.  I've outscored people whose N7 levels are 10X higher than mine, and I've seen people with lower N7 levels than mine carry the team.

EDIT:  Wow, some people are saying they are waiting 30min in a lobby.  I thought my 5-10 min was bad.  30min is completely unacceptable - sometimes I only have an hour to play.

Yeah, this was definitely not a good idea. At best, it should at least be a selectable option for people, but as default it should definitely not try to match by N7 (which is not a good indicator to begin with, except for *perhaps* extremely low levels).

So that's why 'Quick Match' wasn't so quick any more. I thought it was some kind of fishy server problem. It was definitely weird to see nobody joining my bronze and silver lobbies while we just had an event to promote characters.

I really don't see why they'd add this. You can't match people on skill by N7 rating since N7 rating says nothing about skill. Much pain, no gain with this feature...

I see a lot of people have come across the same problem as me. For me, this sucks. My N7 rating is 1130, and I have been playing bronze all morning to gain levels for promotions, and to restock my consumables (which aside from ammo packs are currently empty). And literally, in 8 hours of playing, I have seen the same four people over and over in bronze games. And never more than one at a time. We've been doing two-man bronze runs all day. Which is not hard, but I'd like to have a full team so that we can speed through these games more efficiently.

This similar-level matchmaking must go. If I just want to play bronze and gain levels in my low-level classes, there are no others at my level to join me. I end up soloing up to wave 6 or 7 half the time before it finally matches someone else in. And then they leave after the game because no one else is joining the lobby, only to be matched back in with me on wave 3 or 4 of the following game.

This is a problem, I am afraid to promote my classes.  In addaition, as higher rank players are forced to play more bronze games, I feel no challenge at all.  This is bad system.  My N7 rating is 540, and I already start to play more bronze games.Image IPB

Presumably before the game selected a lobby based on which had the best connection. That would explain the huge jump in lag I've experienced since the patch. Just because players have a similar N7 level to me doesn't mean we can sustain a good internet connection with each other!

The matchmaking system is generally not a bad idea, it really depends how you implement it. So dear god Bioware PLEASE at least give us the OPTION if we want to use it or not.

I emphasize again, give us the option to manually enable or disable the matchmaking system whether if we are hosting or looking for a game if you really want us to use it. Also a quick setting with a +/- value of n7 difference we want in the game would be really nice, but I guess that's too much to hope for.

The system as it is now is horrible and obsolete (for the reasons that others have allready explained before me with which I agree completely) and should thus be either disabled completely or revamped in a way that gives us some freedom over it and make it actually useful. I just don't understand why do you have to force us with so many of your decisions, where many other games provide such choices by default.

Foolishly tried to see if they had fixed this overnight... I've been in a lobby with just one other guy (just 19 N7 points higher) for the past 15 mins...

HA! I've played with people from Russia, Germany, France, and even Australia! It's very common to get paired with people from far away (which roughly correlates with latency), especially when playing at unusual hours.

They were not matchmaking based on connectivity before.

So, you're not sure if a feature that almost entirely removes the ability for some people to play the game they paid for should be removed just because you're playing with slightly better people?  You're a very considerate person.

I don't know if some people supporting it don't understand how bad it is for people with a higher N7 rank, or if they're just too selfish to care.

The last 2 days have been terrible. I don't know if I can play gold or silver PUGs anymore. I'm not only getting bad lag, but I think the players with N7 ratings near mine must be pretty crappy or simply don't want to work together. It's been fail after fail.

I'm playing with the same 6 randoms over and ove again and they don't have mics. The only way to get people to play when you host is to start the match without them. They show up before the 2nd wave ends. If you get people in the lobby, they leave before anyone else shows up.

Why is the game still broken? There is no debating this. IT SUCKS. Turn match making off plz.

Exactly, why talking, act! The game is broken for some of us.

Holy crap. No one joined our lobbies within 10+ minutes. N7 750 and N7 320, we switched leader after 10 minutes to see if it goes any faster, but it didn't. Who made this crap? Who thought that would be a good idea? Fire him! There is so much bs in the matchmaking right now, it`s hard to understand why they ever felt the need to change anything about it. Where there any complaints about matchmaking in the past? How is it that no one joins Random - Random Gold for over 20 minutes with a host from Norway/Germany? I never had problems before to fill up lobbies. If I want to waste my time waiting, I can just go to a busstop, nearly as exciting as the matchmaking is now.

BioWare announced yesterday that they will cancel this matchmaking system, so you can stop - you won, they understood your plight (which was correct, this system WAS terrible).

I never saw them say this.  I saw them say they'll think about canceling it.

Oh. What was it based on then? As you say though, distance does not correlate exactly with lag.

Either way I've been experiencing far more lag and glitches since the patch/DLC. I figured this might be why, but maybe not.

Once again, this system would be fine if N7 actually means anything, but it doesn't. It's not like scores and ranks in fighting games where you get them by winning matches and they get deducted when you lose. That would actually indicate someone's ability (and even then it's not perfect as someone can just be playing against bad players). N7 here only indicates how much someone has promoted. This could mean that someone who regularly wins Gold but never promotes (because there are respec cards) will stay at N7120 while someone who plays only Bronze can have an N71000+ because he promotes every time he hits level 20.

You may be right - I did notice a LOT more lag in all of my games last night, with 4 completely different lobbies.

I don't know what criteria they were using before, but it definitely was not connectivity; if it were, I'd probably be connected mostly to people in my region (Midwest US). My guess is that connectivity is a variable in matchmaking, but not a properly prioritized one.
Frequently being dropped into lobbies where people are speaking other languages (not Spanish) and their nametags often end in RUS or DE is a pretty good indicator of this.
Narrowing down the pool of candidates who you can be matched with decreases the odds of having lower-latency squadmates.

I wish they would talk it out faster. Wouldn't like another 30 minutes of waiting to get 3 people into a lobby on gold or silver.

There is really no need to make this personal.  I was just pointing out my own experience in hopes of engaging in constructive discussion, not mud-flinging.   Personal attacks are decidedly unhelpful.

What is more useful? A new twist on matchmaking put forth by a team of NASA engineers or a ping meter? A ping meter.

Which is easier to implement? A ping meter.

Which has been around in since the 90s? A ping meter.

Why isn't there a ping meter? ...
