So I made a little research about brand new matchmaking system and what do you think? It really DOES suck.

So I created a lobby and waited 20 minutes and got a guy with exact same rating as mine.
Image IPB

We waited another 10 minutes and he quitted.

Then I twice got dropped into the fbw/g/g farming lobby, which I obviously had to quit.

Then I got normal lobby and hoped at last to get in a good game. Guess what? Host quitted and so did others.

At least this story has happy ending - after 40 minutes of waiting I played actual game.
P.S. Thank you very much Bioware for the AMAZING matchmaking system!

^^^^ My experience was worse I'd say. I posted about me dropping mid game with the same TWO PEOPLE. MID MATCH, 8 TIMES.

Good job.

Ok i've been coping with this ridiculous matchmaking for the last few days but today is extreme. My N7 rank is 734 and ive been hosting bronze and silver matches and the lobbies the last few days have been horrendous. Takes 20 mins +++ to get a few people and all similar rank.
Today it looks like i wont be able to play though as ive been waiting over a hour hosting bronze/silver and every 15 mins 1 person joins then they leave.

Bioware please rollback immediately so some of us can enjoy playing the game without waiting a hour.

I'm certainly not saying that all high N7s are bad people by any means, I think you misunderstood what I was saying because of the specific example I gave. The idea is that picky people regardless of N7 could turn this option on and isolate themselves, while the rest of us play with a much broader base of teammates.

 Today's experience was just...absurd.

I've got an N7 of 910. My buddy, who started playing around the same time as I did has an N7 of 2000+.

I open a room this morning and invite him in. He was my only friend online at the time, so we opened the room to the Public.

For ten minutes, nothing happened. Because our N7 scores are so different, it was like the system just couldn't decide which one to use. Then, we got a guy who was N71400 or so. That guy sat there for another five minutes waiting for a fourth. He got bored and jetted. We closed the room down and opened a new one on the offchance that computer-stuff-I-don't-understand needed to reboot or reset or something. And we spent another ten minutes waiting before the exact same guy showed back up in the room. And then left again.

And over the next ten to twenty minutes, he got sent back to the room three or four more times. He'd sit for a bit. Then get bored and leave, and the matchmaker would send him right back to our lobby.

My buddy and I got bored waiting for Silver to fill up, so we decided to do a two man Bronze and hoped players would be added to the match in progress.

And the SAME GUY SHOWED UP TO THE MATCH.

At 11:30 were there only 3 people playing on Silver or something?

Nope. You were not.

However that dude with the 1400 was the only one close to the 1460 (or so) average you and your friend work out to.

Last night at one time there was a lobby with me (597) and a friend (840) in a lobby with a 720 and a 722.

720 is 120 more than 600 (597) and 120 less than 840.

So if you and a friend make a lobby, expect almost always players exactly between your N7 ranks with like a error margin of 50 or so.

Dear Bioware. I appreciate what you tried to do catering to the whiners who were complaining about playing with bad players. However high N7 =/= high skill.

Please roll this back. Please.

Unless you really do want to kill your game.

I'm really not concerned with the N7 level of folks who show up to a public match. I just want folks to show up. And it seemed like the system was more concerned about trying to match N7 ratings (or a rough average) than allowing all of us...any of us...to play the game.

I've met some great people who were low N7 and some who were high N7. I've helped out N7s lower than me who needed it, and I've learned from playing with higher N7s. I don't want that experience to change in the least bit, because, while it may be fraught with some difficulties, it is the best way for players to grow.

I mean, I guess some folks would like to have it as an option...maybe that would be cool. I dunno. But I think it was a sh*t idea. Hopefully, it's been fixed already.

I just wanna play the game, y'know? Anything that gets in the way of that  seems at best unproductive.

Something I've noticed in my attempts to play today - the matchmaking system seems to put a high priority on placing people in any public "game in progress." If a match is running, it'll dump the first player available into the match, apparently regardless of their N7 rating. (Or at least, it's nowhere near as picky about it as if you're still waiting in the lobby.) Just to test it, so far today I've started about ten public matches solo. Every single time, I had at least two more players by Wave 3, and they were almost all full by Wave 7.

However this is less than ideal as a workaround. You literally have no idea what you're going to get, and the people who get dropped in are likely to be unhappy about it. They're dropped into the match blind and in progress. Even assuming they don't get mauled as they're loading in, they've missed out on possibly a fairly decent amount of the XP and Credits for the match. And if they had consumables equipped, those will be spent on what could turn out to be less than half a match. In my attempts to start a game, at least one of the people who got dropped in would usually quit as soon as we got back to the lobby, regardless of how well the match went.

I suspect that people who've been seeing lobbies with a wide N7 range might have been getting dropped into a group that was formed this way. Of all the matches I did manage to play today, the only time I ever saw people more than about fifty points from my N7 rating was when I'd either started a game alone, or joined one in progress. If I tried to host a lobby and wait for it to fill, then the people who showed up were never more than 50 points higher or lower than me. (Usually a lot less.)

About the only good thing I can say about the system, is that I've encountered fewer people who join a match, whack "ready" instantly and then start trying to vote kick anyone who takes more than three seconds to start. Matches are so difficult to join now that (at least in Bronze) most people don't want to kick anyone who isn't clearly either AFK or a complete idiot. Or at least, most of the ones I've seen aren't in a hurry to kick anymore.

Ya know, I've spent A LOT of time on multiplayer over the past two weeks, grinding on Gold so to 'catch up' on weapons. I've finally maxed out all my uncommons and am well on my way to maxing out rares...

And now this happens.

This is such a game-breaking mistake that I have to think BW rolls this back soon. I'm an N7 of 505 and I can barely find a game on Gold. Totally destroys my incentive to promote anymore as I'm horrified by what might happen if I get any higher.

As it stands it takes a while to find a game.

I have been noticing this as well.  Last week, if I searched bronze, I would get in-progress GOLD more often than anything else.  Friday night mainly did invite, Saturday and yesterday, it seemed actually normal (ps3).  I logged in here thinking to see the rollback announcement, actually.

They must have the numbers. They can see how many games have actually happened since the patch and I would bet just about anything there's been a steep decline in the number of games.

Roll this back now.

I think we should send more PMs to Scylla Costa, like a petition, the more emails, the more concern.

Is this gone yet?

Actually, I had to find online-friends in order to play more time than wait. Makes the game now less anonymous, an interesting side effect.

Do BioWare not test changes before rolling them out? If they did, they would have realised the new matchmaking system is completely broken. Now, I routinely wait 20+ minutes to play.

Having surpassed our expectations with the quality of the multiplayer offering, it's a real shame to see BioWare squander the goodwill with ill-considered, amateurish 'improvements' such as this. It needs fixing, like yesterday.

Not defending the new system at all, but how could the effectively test a match making system without releasing it to the public first.  You'd have to have a very large test group to have any quantifiable results.  Basically releasing it was the only way to test it as far as I can tell.

Scylla Costa needs to respond. Or that Priest fellow. Chris?

Basically: the higher your N7, the more screwed you are, the longer you wait.

I had a lvl X Krissy and a lvl X Reegar in less than 5mins after downloading the rebellion pack. It only took 1.2 mil credits.

No big deal.

But now it's known, I hit the Match button with the assumption I could be joining an in progress gold game.  As such I don't equip consumables and pre-select a character + weapon set for gold, even if I really want a silver game with a different class or weird experimental weapon set, as this has the least impact on the team.

Then if you actually get into a lobby, check team synergy, and pick a different class / weapon as fit.

Not ideal, but all we can do.
