Come payday next week I'm buying D3. I like playing ME3 MP but I don't like farming and I don't like waiting 30-40 min for a non-farm gold game.

Next week gonna pick up lollypop chainsaw. August though wish was here. Darksiders 2.

Seriously Bioware - 33 pages of 'this sucks' isn't enough to settle the internal debate? How many discussions do you need to have on this?

I'll just have to play GRFS in the meantime.... damn it.

Personally, I can't wait for Borderlands 2! If that was here today, I'd drop ME3 in a heartbeat. Borderlands' multiplayer has this game beat my miles. The first one was definitely my favorite co-op game of all time.

I posted this in another thread, but this seems to be the high-traffic thread and I hope it might get read here. I propose two potential solutions for the problem that retain the intended benefits, while addressing the problems experienced by high-N7 ranked players.

There is a simple fix for this:

Do the same matchmaking scheme, except apply a logarithm. Matching based on log( N7 ) - the base isn't important - will greatly compress the sparser higher ranges. If this compresses the lower ranges too greatly, only apply the log compression above some threshold - say N7 ~350. Honestly, I doubt it would be a problem in the lower ranges.

Another option would be to try the current scheme in a given N7 band, but if lobbies are not filling after some designated period (say, 1-2 minutes) then the smallish initial N7 matchmaking range doubles. Rinse and repeat; everyone will have full groups within a couple iterations of this.

I prefer playing with people around 240, and for me the new system works PERFECTLY.

These proposed solutions keep the best features while fixing the issues with sparsity for people with high N7 ratings.

Hopefully this gets read.

Solution to matchmaking: Match by minimizing latency! Also, if I leave a game, get the hint that I don't want to return to that same match ten times in a row.

That's it. Done. Nothing else. Or if that is too difficult for them, go back to vanilla matchmaking but gives us a ping meter so we don't waste time on laggy games.

Appreciate your effort to contribute, but need to highlight a few other issues with the current Matchmaker.

1. Disincentive for promotions. There are people who are comfortable at around a certain N7 level and do not want to promote any more. I have no issue with this. The current Matchmaker certainly encourages it, as lower N7 levels have an easier time finding games. However, the MP fundamental design is intended to get promotions going, for people to move more MP assets into SP play. Having a Matchmaker that encourages behaviour that goes fundamentally against that design principle is just.. right hand not talking to left foot.

2. The problem of ignoring player perferences for difficulties. This is a big one as anything else can be taken in stride. There are players who prefer to play in bronze, but lately due to the Matchmaker's settings, had been forced into Silver and Gold games. The reverse is also true, that the Gold players are forced into Bronze or Silver.

This has two effects: discouraging players who are not keen to play in Silver and Gold, and causing Gold players to lose equipped consumables. The first directly drives away players; the second annoys Gold players. Since consumables requires purchasing, this has the add-on effect of making people buy packs, which some are already not happy about the random nature of it.

(Essentially, people put up with the RNG nature of packs because the shooting's fun and there's some enjoyment to the randomness of it, but force it on people without the fun in the gunning, it gets bad,)

3. Lack of community building. People who stay within a certain range of N7 levels is essentially socializing with the much the same level. Nothing wrong with that, but it makes it harder for new joiners and high level N7 to mix and understand each other's perspective. Ultimately, this will likely lead to elitism and barriers of entry to newcomers. So, not healthy.

The current problems with the Matchmaker is just really the tip of the iceberg.

Did bw learn yet? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Well in this case the vanilla version was less broken, period.

And now high N7's like me are screwed over. Way to go.. Great foresight.

Hopefully the maintenance in a few hours will fix this. Later today we'll all see if this has been fix and if the endless nerf threads create another problem.

Easy fix if they still wanna keep it N7 level based: make it so you could joint any game starting from N7 lvl 0 and up to (2 x your N7 + 50).
That way a N7 lvl 20 could join any game from lvl 0 up to (2 x 20 + 50) lvl 90. A lvl 500 could join any starting from lvl 0 up to 1050 and a lvl 1500 could join any from 0 up to 3050.
That could prevent lower N7 to join high ranked N7 games but would NOT prevent a high N7 to join a lower N7 game.
Not perfect but I think would still be better then current one.

Anything that uses N7 is ridiculous. I have N7 300 and I regularly play Gold, I have almost all gold weapons now at X and every lower weapon at X. I played a LOT. I'm playing less right now thanks to this and the Krysae stupidity, but the point is that N7 is irrelevant, I don't promote, I use respec cards.

There is no way to track skill, but they could track equipment (better equipment does make the game easier) by using the manifest.

But even that would be stupid. One thing this patch has made clear is that there aren't that many players. After a week, I'm seeing the same names over and over again around my N7 level. You don't break up a small community like this, there just aren't enough of us to keep the game viable. (at least on PC, but I'm seeing the same complaints on console.)

Just don't sweat it, the game does not require matchmaking based on any proxy for skill.

Ok, this is really hampering multiplayer at the moment.

Also, have we established that N7 is pointless?

Side Note: I knew promoting my characters would come back to bite me somehow.

This is a thing that happened to me just now:

A friend and I were in a public Gold lobby with the two of us (N7 660 and N7 835). no one joined for about 20 minutes, so we both decided to individually search for games to invite the other to. It put us both into the same game, with me as leader. Then immediately afterwards, we get an N7 45 player and an N7 2250 player.

I would like this to return to how it used to be, please. I enjoy this game greatly but getting into a Gold match is fairly strenuous.

4 days is quite a long time to discuss this issue.

The N7 match making brings nothing to the table but client loss.

Perhaps there could be options to select in terms of match making ie: Random(or disable)/ ranks closer to player/ specify rank level/ etc. in that way players can have more control over the overall play experience~ ;)

Just suffered from the stupid matchmaking. Dumped in halfway through a wave in the middle of enemies on Silver then Gold even though I wanted Bronze.

Would be better to go into spectactor mode until the start of a wave so you don't get insta killed by Gold primes/banshees/phantoms.

...it feels fixed. it no longer takes me 30 Seconds to find a game, and when I do it's a rather varied group of N7 rankings.
