They probably just used her model as a figure for the background, figured nobody would really look into it that closely.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.
Why wouldn't she be in the ManShep version?
ManShep's too fat and blocks the view.
The top of her head is near the border of the shadow.
This location is clearly visible in Manshep's picture.
Even if he was fat, we'd see a least a small part of Ashley.

He doesn't, check the images posted earlier in the thread. The char model extenders further to the right, the area where Ashley is standing still shows.
I'd like to see some pictures of FemShep rescuing Ashley and see if she still shows up at the door though.

It wouldn't really be a hallucination or indoc. "evidence" since Shepard isn't even aware of it. It's an easter egg for players.

Someone already brought this up some time ago. I figure it's a homage of sorts. Kind of like a full circle thing.. considering the VS is now on the brink of death.

Someone must've really not liked Kaidan then, he doesn't seem to show up at all.

Unless, it is not Shepard being indoctrinated but someone who controls Shepard.

... because that makes sense and is possible and all. Every single weird thing can be chalked up as "indoctrinationz!" Does Miranda going from bruised and bloody to clear faced in 3 seconds mean the entire confrontation scene was a dream, also? With enough twisted logic, I'm sure it is.
No, but there's no context in that scene that might suggest it as such.
Also, the stains of blood come in and out of focus a few times, depending on how close the "camera" has focused on Miranda's face. Could still be there, just not visible due to the proximity.

Indoctrination != dream. Kapish?

Even weirder then. That means that for two separate scenes (male / female with Kaidan surviving) they've added Ashley, yet for two other (Ashley surviving) they didn't add Kaidan. If they just wanted to fill the space, why not just use a generic character and have them in all the scenes?
As an aside, damn, Ashley's hard to get rid of. Not even nuking her keeps her from coming back and (presumably) whine to Shepard about Cerberus.
Atleast Kaidan has the grace to stay dead.

One possible suggestion is perhaps Kaiden appears at some other point in this scene?
But yes. Weird.

Conveniently only using things that you can twist to fit your view. Miranda clearly has a big bruise underneath her right eye and it's magically gone a few moments later. Developers really do sometimes overlook things.
... but that's not the point of this thread. The fact that Kaidan somehow doesn't appear in the same manner as Ashley in the hospital scenes is quite bizarre. It makes you question as to why only one VS is shown and why the other was neglected. Oversight -- i.e. forgot about Kaidan? Or accidentally plugged in? I doubt there is deep meaning in it other than "REMEMBER VS!" if it was intentional. Because as far as what roles they play in the game and their dialogue... Ashley and Kaidan are pretty much interchangeable.
