I thought OP was bat**** crazy at first, so I decided to try this out on 360.

Yep, killed Ash on Virmire and she's there behind my ****ing Male Shep. WHAT KIND OF RUSTLING IS THIS!?

Either lazy model swaps or more Indoc proof.

I'm pretty sure theyre just swapping character models since either of them could be in this scene.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with this, a little bit of laziness, they just placed the model in a convenient location to make it easier for scene editing, just forgot to make sure it was not in camera view, a little sloppiness.

Thats weird. haven't seen her in awile. I can't believe they have model like that just standing barely on cam. Does it use more resources to have that detailed of a model their? I'm not sure how these scense are put together but, I think it would be a waste to put that there. Why not some generic model?

That's what I thought too. So my next theory is that it was a glitch. But then, if it's a glitch, wouldn't Kaidan show up on the same place when she is alive? Or even a second Ashley...

I looked at my own flycam version with kaidan alive. The ashley you see is Ashley with the charred face when she's on the stretcher.

Haven't tried the kaidan dead version yet.

I just went back and played the opening with my Femshep with Ash alive and all I got was the image of something near the elevator. Below screenshot isn't from my game, but this is what I saw too:



Hopefully someone with flycam can get a better shot of whoever that is crumpled on the floor, lol.

Looks like Asheley, but as these scenes show, models get moved around during scene editing.

Yeah, she's basically some military classification made up for no real purpose, with no further explanation in the story, essentially business as usual for this walking catastrophe.
