There are two characters whom no longer exist (deleted their folders and all) yet they still show up on the list of my characters.

Any way to 'purge' non-existant characters?

Nope, still there. They weren't under my manage characters screen; nothing there or in my screenshots. I did what you mentioned in that thread (even went ahead and cleared out my cache & all) but it's still saying I have 4 screenshots, 11 files & two characters (rife with error codes).

Hmm.

I have the same problem.

Deleted a character from both the site and my 360 HDD a couple of weeks ago.

The diagnostics says the character is still stored on the servers. Problem is I can't delete the files because the character isn't listed in the manage characters screen.

Could these left over files be whats causing none of my character portraits to upload?

Anyway they need a purge profile option.

Bioware representative says this fix does not work, I respectfully disagree however. Try this at your own risk

Please read all this post at least once before doing anything

First example:
You have the character "Aedan" in the diagnostics page and one or more of the 4 files required (Character XML, Potrait Image, Avatar Image, Story XML) is missing but the character no longer exists on your profile.

This can be solved by recreating the character (only the name is important) so in this example I would recreate a character called Aedan, start the game, move around a few steps, strip equipment and then save.

Upload that character now, and it should think its the character you deleted and will upload the files that we are missing, once that is done and the character appears in the manage characters area of your profile you can delete it and this should also remove the profile diagnostics entry too.

Well done Bioware for using the characters name as the Character Identifier. (So we cant have two characters with the same name uploaded at any one time?)

There may be a delay between the upload of the Files the profile diagnostics uses (see above) and the upload of your character into the character management area of your profile.

Second Example:
Characters name is "Aedan" shows up ok in the profile diagnostics (all files are there) but character no longer exists.

The above fix should also work to remove the character from the profile diagnostics.

Before deleting the character you remade to fix this issue you may want to delete all screenshots in the Manage screenshots area, these can be uploaded again assuming they are still present ingame.

It is also highly recomended that you supress the upload of anything other than character profile before beggining this fix, simply uncheck everything under online options except the upload character profile option.

It is also recomended that you are logged on whilst attemting this fix, but be sure to delete the character from the HDD before deleting it from the profile page to ensure it doesnt try to upload itself again in the meantime.

It appears that this problem is created by a failure to upload one or more of the required 4 files (see above) before a character is deleted therefore always awaiting upload (stored on the Bioware servers but not on our profiles)

I hope this makes sense and fixes your problems.
Good luck

Did you make sure to name the characters exactly the same?
I did it for two characters of two different names and it seemed to work

Making multiple characters with the same name in the game should cause them both to be uploaded and is expected to do that. This won't fix issues with deleting characters or having an existing character upload.

The upload process appears to get confused when doing the above and shows the wrong character potrait (IE it will show the potrait of the previous character) Regardless of wether it fixes the problem as it did for me it is not working as you believe it to or as intended.

The problem we are having with deleting characters is the on-line storage server that keeps track of the character data is very backed up. So deleting a character or screenshot from the manage characters/screenshots page will always delete from the site and try and delete from the on-line storage server.

The only fix for this right now is persistence. Keep trying to delete a character/screenshot. If it shows up again delete it again. We are working on a fix for this.

You appear to not understand the original problem.

The problem is that deleted characters are showing up in the Diagnostics but NOT in the profile pages. you cannot delete from the diagnostics.

Thanks for the info.  I'll look into this further.

I can confirm this behaviour exists for me as well, with the character "Julane". I just deleted her profile online since she had 57 files, all "unexpected extras" aside from the typical four, but she was still showing in the diagnostic as having six files ("character xml" was the only category with the checkmark).

I'm heading in to play some DA:O now and expect that the number of files will start to rise again. I don't upload screenshots.

It would appear that this problem is related to the sheer punishing the servers are taking, and is simply latency related.
this issue is been looked into.

in the event that there is a character in your profile diagnostics thats not in your character list, persistence is key as the Bioware representative said, the profile diagnostics page can be thought of as a half way house between your computer and the profile pages, over time the remaining files will be uploaded and can then be deleted.

There is a problem with characters with the same name getting mixed up, so I highly recommend not creating a new character with the same name as one you have deleted that is still in the diagnostics page until it has been completely removed.

Other than that, left over files in the profile diagnostics can be removed eventually it just takes time, in the mean time if you do create another character at any point, give him/her a unique name (one you havent used before) and you should have no problems.
