Hey there, also an Aussie; got the game a couple of days ago and have been playing it... Pretty much non-stop. I wake up, I play, I go to bed somewhere between 2 and 3 in the morning, I wake up I play... You see where this is going. I'm actually in the States at the moment, and not sure whether to be annoyed or happy that games are cheaper over here. I think I'm going to go with happy.

Bring back heaps of copies of L4D 2 - The censored Aussie version is a joke.

Ever seen Once Were Warriors?

If it's like that then Kiwi men will just stare intensely at their opponents and say "what you looking at boy"

Isn't L4D2 uncensored over at NZ? NZ copies work with Australian stuffs.

Oh you poor Australians... I love you all to death, but the censorship over there is unreal. I feel for you guys. :(

Thanks, Invert. It's all thanks to some complete and utter ass who thinks all gamers over 6 are murdering psychopaths. It's really... infuriating.

I think there was a zombie walk for L4D2.

Funny thing about the Australian rating system is that while a few games are banned or edited. The vast bulk of games that go through unedited, will get a lower age rating than they would overseas.

Go figure.

I am curious about this. Assassin's Creed 2 and DA:O recieved a PEGI 18 or an R18 rating In U.S.A. and other countries while in New Zealand they are R16. Is it like that in Australia ?

Dragon Age is MA15+ and I think AC2 is as well.

Edit: Beaten to the punch.

MA15+ is actually the highest rating a game can get in Australia. If we had an R18+ rating for games just like movies we wouldn't have this problem of games being censored or banned.

Not entirelly true. Fallout 3 actually got banned because it violated a law about the represenation of drug use, not because they wanted to rate it higher and couldn't.

I think the system needs an overhaul, whether or not we add an R18+ is largelly irrelevant.

Here's to hoping things will change soon for my Aussie friends! In the mean time, I invite you to join me at my place (in Canada) to break some Australian laws. First, we'll play some uncensored L4D2. Then we'll find a video game that shows a little boobie and has a little dirty-talk and play that. Then, when you return to Australia, you'll be compelled to commit violent crimes while you wait for your head explode because you saw a nipple.

Oh, we'll listen to some rock and roll too... just to add a little more violence in ya.

I don't remember mentioning Fallout 3.

An 18+ rating would've meant an uncensored L4D2. It's very relevant.

You said if we had an R18+ rating then we wouldn't have problem with games being censored. Fallout 3 was censored not because it violated a law about what could be depicted in games, that law should still exist with an R18+ classification - assuming no further changes were made to the law.

What I'm getting at is that the whole system is broken. We need to review it, a simple let's just add an R18+ classification is unlikely to address all of the problems.

I'm an Aussie, but I hate all Australian sports (...well, all sport). And I don't eat Vegemite. Can I still be part of the thread?

I agree 100%.

We need to overhaul the entire system.

But L4D2 would not be released uncensored under any system without an 18+ rating from what I've seen.  Some games are just too violent for anything less than 18+.

Your Fallout 3 points are true but you're assuming that I would expect a kitten torture game to be released on an 18+ rating.  I do understand that some things (like drug use) will never be allowed in games in Australia.

I'm just saying if the option of an 18+ rating was there we would have less games banned or censored.

Edited for typo's.

Our rating system is so pathetic it needs a complete overhaul. With Fallout 3 what got it baned was the fact that you could use morpheine when injured to dull the pain...just like in real life. The murder torture slavery and canabalism apparenly pales in comparison to the existence of real world drugs.

Not having an R rating just means that most games which should have it end up with 15+. Which means that all adult games are availlable to any 15 year old. Exactly the group that shoudnt have access to adult materiel. Wow! A self defeating rating system! How Fun!

yeah it's one of those things that you wish would just get sorted out, but too much talk from the lawmakers stops any sense happening on the ratings issue!

I'm pretty much the same, I hate AFL and Cricket. Vegemite tastes like death to me.

Who likes Vegemite? What? People like that stuff? I'm a girl, so naturally I don't have to like anything sporty.

Some sports are interesting, I'm just not sure which ones are referred to as Australian...

As for Vegemite, it's pretty good, though it could be slightly milder.
