Up until now I've had no problem with Mass Effect 2, it's been working fine and I've been able to run it at max settings for rather extended periods of time, and it's always run incredibly smooth.

Yesterday I finished the Horizon mission, but today after I started my computer up I noticed my laptop was extremely hot and my game became choppy to the point where it was almost like watching a slideshow. I have the game patched to 1.02 (I'm not sure if it'll affect anything, but I installed the core ME2 game first, patched it, and then proceeded to install my DLCs and weapon packs, would it matter if I installed those after the 1.02 patch?) My game's a digital download from Amazon.

My laptop easily exceeds the recommended requirements.

Win7 Ultimate 64-bit
8GB RAM
Intel i7 920XM
AMD CrossfireX Mobility Radeon HD5870s

I thought it might've been dust clogging the fans, but they're clear and my laptop is still hot.

Any ideas?

Oh, and I almost forgot. A few minutes after I exited the game I got a blue screen, and the message went something like... I don't remember, but it mentioned 'bug code driver irql usb less than zero' or something to that effect.

BSODs are hardware related. If your laptop is overheating you will need to disassemble your machine and get some compressed air into the front and sides of all of the fans, and check that the heatsink is still seated nice and firmly on the GPU with thermal paste. Airflow in laptops is never great, and now the Summer is on the way, heat is going to be your enemy, especially if you are gaming and putting your machine under stress.
