i'm not sure why they totally abandoned RealTimerExpired and made all banters location- or event-triggered. it makes it less immersive and less replayable when you know walking over a certain spot is going to fire a banter every single time.

also, there seems to be a decided dearth of conversations of more than two actors.  i'm really missing more complex conversations like the Jan/Minsc/Charname dialogs.

There seem to be spots where these random-banter things might trigger. There is a place near the surface dwarf sellers where I can fire a conversation occasionally by walking near it. The bridge in Lothering is another spot. There is one close to the exit from the Diamond Quarter. There may also be just random triggers not associated with any place or time, but there do seem to be locale-based banter triggers.
(The code has "bored barks" for the companions, but I've yet to hear any character complain by just standing there for a long time. Unfinished feature? Removed due to annoyance?)

In Orzammar its the huge bridge towards the Proving-Arena.
Lothering is the small wooden bridge.
Denerim it is the main exit/entry of the Marketplace-District.
Mages Tower it is outside when you walk down the hill besides the Lake(Pre-tower area).
Redcliffe its (again) a small wooden bridge.
Dalish Tribe its the Main Entry/Exit.

So Bioware chose some Choke points in the main areas for triggering the banters.
BG2 had the problem, that many times banters didnt "hit in" and never appeared, while i still think
it was a better solution, then making this so static and foreseeable(and dont forget the Banter-pack mods)

Yes, sadly. Wynne aside no one (not even the so-called "love interests") seems to give a damn about the Warden's past or state of mind. Considering how I seem to recall it was said companions would be less me-me-me in this game, and how the origins were said to affect the game, it's a real letdown.

It depends on your origin, I think. For instance, when I went to the alienage with my city elf, both Zevran and Alistair were shocked to learn I had been engaged (Zevran especially, considering I was romancing him). There were comments aplenty about that. And then my human noble talked about being a Cousland with both Alistair and Wynne, and when it came time to rescue Anora from Howe, everyone and their mother warned him against putting the queen at risk by going after vengeance.

highcastle: Of course there are many responses and speech!

If not this game wouldnt be a Bioware game, that we wouldnt play several times and discuss it.

This is just "critics on a high level", so that maybe a unison will be found between the players and Bioware might refine this in the Add-On or Sequel, so that we will have an even more epic experience!

That's a problem in my opinion. We should be able to talk to our companions in a given situation and ask for their opinion.

... but marching the entire group around Orzammar and having them again and again learn that you're the dwarven princess and noone bats an eyelid.

First, Grey Wardens cannot inherit titles and even if they did, remenber why exactly your "dwarven princess" is a now Grey Warden.

Second, the Orzammar Throne is not inherited so as your Dwarf might be a noble in origin but the bus stops there ... who sits on the throne is decided by  Assembly of the noble houses.

Third, its not as if that is as a big secret as Alistair as the situation is even quite diferent since if both being Grey Wardens cannot inhereit titles, Alistair was not cast down and can possibly be elected to be King as your dwarven priccess as far dwarven sociaty is concerned murdered her oldest brother and was exiled.

Not to mention as Alistair had reasons to keep his royal bastard status hidden, the same does not apply to your dwarven princess that being a exile have not much of a reason to keep her origin a secret from the rest of the party.

To be honest, I don't see how any of this invalidates my petty gripe that none of them actually seem to even care. It's not as if I'm asking them to drop on a knee and worship my eternal dwarven lordship or anything, but if I learned my boss was the former princess of Botswana then I think I'd atleast note it as slightly extraordinary.

In fact, I'd be less interested in an "OMG YOUR HIGHNESS" and more of a "..your father died? I'm sorry." kind of response if anything, but the thing that really stands out to me is that they don't even seem to notice.

take sten with you the first time you arrive, occasionally he will make a humourous comment about dwarven architecture.

I had some of the funniest banter ever (IMO) in Orzammar between Oghren and Wynne when he boozes her up. I didn't really notice it being overly silent, but I'll pay more attention next time. I might've just missed it because I think I was playing through late at night when I was barely awake anyhow.

If such "ignorance" for unnecessary past tragedys should be normal, then what is the point in Origins?

Isnt this, what it was all praised about the DA:Origin -storys? That your heritage and your past will influence the world around you and the behaviour/reactions of your surroundings; friends and foes.

Seems it's yet another case of Molyneux syndrome - the actual features aren't nearly as robust as the descriptions on the box.

I kind of liked how in ME you could talk to Kaidan and Ashley in between major missions, and get their opinions on them (and sometimes Liara's as well) and chat a bit about them. Don't get me wrong, DA:O certainly made conversational progress over ME, but hopefully that conversational aspect will be kept for ME2 and will be rolled into the next DA game as well.

Molyneux syndrome? Heh. I gotta remember that term, it's fitting.

I would call this a "Molyneux-Effect" and start a topic in Wikipedia:

"Provided discrepancies between something that is said and something that is done." *g

If you do a double-cross sort of thing where you fight in the proving for Harrowmont, then offer to become a spy for Bhelen, Wynne and Leliana will have a few things to say if they are in your party. Haven't tried it with anyone else yet.

I remember doing a double cross on bhelen and Morrigan commented that it was Cunning and Sten said "Betrayal is for cowards"

Got a + for morrigan and a - for sten

Yea Sten also commented that "Why do such small people make such big structures... they must have an impressive array of ladders."

But all in all, funny how much technology has improved since BG2:SoA, yet that game had more content, better spells in my opinion and better characters and character interaction. Only thing that's changed for the better since then has been graphics... but Oooo Shiney, doesn't really cut it for me. I was hoping the Edwina in the Gnawed Noble Tavern was a refference to BG, but she just seemed like a random char with the same name, would've been a lot more funny to have her act like Edwin.
