The Witcher 2 is only on PC and Xbox, right?

Deus Ex is kinda amazing. Howeverm i can´t stand the first person view so I anly managed to play it for two hours before I went nuts.

You kinda follows a story ( not any decision making) but Red Dead Redemption is so far the most entertaining game ever gameplay wise. The story isn´t half as deep as ME series, but its still amazing in every way.

Assassins Creed series is also very entertaining, story-wise as well as gameplay. Check them out. :)

Im one of those who absolutly love DA2, so I recommend it. I  found it much more entertaining than Origins. (although Origins is much better, I did find it boring sometimes)

Stupid crap game that I can't play. Obsidian can be complete morons sometimes...

So a game you can't play is crap how?

The fact that the computer hacking is impossible for me makes it crap. How's about play testing the game Obsidian? And if you check any forum that mentions Alpha Protocol you'll see lots of people with the same problem. Yes I wear glasses but I'm not blind or disabled or something. But it is impossible for me to make out those tiny numbers to hack a computer. And that's kind of an important thing in the game isn't it? Horrible, incompetent design. Only game I've ever had any problem with...

Thanks to everyone for the help and input so far,

Am thinking about Fallout 3 but it looks extremely gorey/violent for my tastes anyhow, dunno if thats the case with the game or not if anyone can elloborate

Also thinking about Dragon age orgins i think its called might be worth trying although i usually dont like fantasy type games at all, with their medivally oldy type settings, so would people recommend it for someone who doesnt like fantasy style games?

Deus Ex Human Revulution looks decent, but can you actually influence the story does anyone know?

Alpha Protocal seems tempting but there seems to be alot of issues with it from what people are saying, that its sounds horrible to play.

Someone mentioned Binary Domain but can you influence decesions in the story in it or anything?

The Star Wars Knights of the old republic and few other games mentioned sound class but I dont have an xbox or pc to play them unfortunately.

Also have played red ded redemption, great game.

Keep any suggestions coming :)

Bioshock is really nice, & good atmophere, but its hardly like ME IMO.

There are some RPG elements that are nice. Only complain is the lack of enemies variation.

I guess you're right. It's similar to Mass Effect where your choices affect the game's ending, but that's about it.

The question is; do you care more about story/choices or gameplay? If you do, then you should get it; if not, then don't.

Was hoping for a decent blend of bought to be honest, if its unplayable  then the choices would seem a bit pointless, thanks for the advice on it, might give that one a miss for now and see can i find something better.

New Vegas was much harder at the beginning in my opinion.
Are they violent? I guess so but I didn't really think about that. I found it humorous and satisfying to literally blow someone's head off. It's not that it's nauseatingly graphic violence. At least in my opinion.

New Vegas is considered more RPGy than Fallout 3, but I thought the DC Wasteland of Fallout 3 was incredible. A true video game must see.

first off, stop basing your ideas about games based on reviews you find on the interwebs. didnt you hear, ME3 got 75 perfect reviews!!! you need to experience the game yourself, and renting a game for $2 is a perfect way in doing that. you seem like your into the same types of games i am so ill throw a few out at you that reminded me of ME.

firstly i wouldnt recommend the witcher or DA. those games are hack and stashers. i kindof enjoyed the storys there but im not into playing games with swords that take numrouse slashes especially light sabers in kotor. if you into story, then sure, check em out. but i wouldnt call those games "like mass effect."

firstly id start with alpha protocol, deus ex: HR, bioshock, and possibly skyrim, maybe imfamous for the leveling abilities and using cool powers aspect but you most likely have played that already.

alpha protocol is very similar to ME1 other then its not in space and doesnt have biotics. similar honky gunplay, abilities to level, and has a dialogue wheel almost exactly like ME. i prefer alpha protocols dialogue wheel to MEs too.

DE: HR is awesome. really, if your into the atmoshpere ME1 provides, youll love DE. even tho its first person, theres still alot of gameplay thats in 3rd person. its sci fi, awesome music, some dialogue choices...yeah its gonna be one of your favorite games after you play it.

bioshock to me is also a game i put at MEs level. its got some minor RPG elements like upgrading weapons and abilities, but no choices in dialogue or anything like that. bioshock has a GREAT story too. i just compare it to ME because its gameplay that revolves around guns + abilities. but its definately a game worth playing.

id say play skyrim, but id only recommend playing a magic user for the same reason i wouldnt recomend DA, or witcher. using magic is more like bioshocks gameplay and too me, its much more enjoyable. also, might as well say fallout3 if you like bethesda style games, that arent fantasy.

They've paid lip service to the idea, but I'm very skeptical that it'll happen at this point. Bums me out because I'm not going to have an XBox or a decent PC any time soon, but whatevs. They got a new game coming and hopefully that one will be on all platforms.

Fallout 3 is proper free roam. In Mass effect you would take a ship to a planet. But in fallout you would treck through the wilderness. I remember i was trecking to do this one side mission but saw a nearby town walked there...did that side mission..continued to the main side mission...was sent somewhere else...did that..finally walked back... that was 5 hours and was jus a side mission.

Fallout new vegas is even better.. same style but with factions, beter AI, weapon mods and decisons having even more of an impact.

if you see a building in the distance, or a mountain....you can walk towards it and it will actually be there..will just take you a few hours lol.

And yh its gorey..slow motion cutscenes or heads and limbs exploding. I don't care much for gore but didn't mind it.

Deus ex ...hmmm... you make a few decisons that impact gameplay and outcomes in small ways.

Decisions in upgrades allow you to approach levels and enemies in completely different ways.. for example; theres typically 3 paths to progress into a building..and then another 3 ways through the building. and or avoid, kill or neutralise enemies. Which one you can take depends on your chosen upgrades and weapons. It's good for immersion as you will sneak around and examine the best course of action.

sometimes you can talk you way in..someone gives you a password maybe...if that fails then you have to find a back door in and not be seen. These small things increase the immersion of the game.
example:

There is very little dialogue in the game if thats what you are looking for. it's not really an rpg. More action-stealth with rpg elements.

ps. mass effect 1 was the first rpg i played (unless pokemon counts) i loved it.. then later the same friend recommended fallout..that was awesome but in a different way...and deus ex i like, just because of metal gear solid stealth with rpg elements and ridiculous customisation. i recommend them both.

Same difference as most games and following installments. Different story, same overarching plot/setting, different stuff and mechanics and the like.

Honestly, play them both, you will not be disappointed. And if you're a completionist, keep a notebook handy.;)

Oh, and yes, they are violent though you don't necessarily have to be. Fully open world and a whole lot of choice.

For the OP: These games aren't all like ME but they are the games I will never get rid of and always reccomend (many you may have played)

- Final Fantasy 7 (playstation1/playsation store via PS3)

- Final Fantasy 8 (playstation1/playsation store via PS3)

- Red Dead Redemption

- Fallout 3

- Fallout New Vegas

- Assassin's Creed (all)

- Dead Space

- Dead Space 2

- Oblivion

- Skyrim (though I haven't played it yet)

- The Witcher

- The Witcher 2 (though I haven't played it yet)

Off the top of my head, that's what I recall. I would say those are all must plays.

I would also like to add that I was in the same boat as you last year. I played ME2 for PS3 and I'm the type of person that has to play the first installments. I debated for ever on what to do and eventually I spent a bit of money and got my PC up to snuff (was cheaper for me than an XBOX, though I still want one). Honestly, since I did my PS3 has done nothing but play blu-rays.

Fallout new vegas also had a well written story imo. I personally didn't like F3' story because it felt like bastardization towards F1 and F2 but it is a very good game nonetheless and if you like a simple story you will probably also enjoy it.
Gameplay wise F3 is million times easier than New Vegas though.
That said if you are going to buy either of them you should buy F3:GOTY edition or F:NV Ultimate edition.

Actually, OP, what part of Mass Effect are you looking for in other games? Sometimes must-haves or RPG's can be very different from one another.

I was thinking the same issue with dragon age not too sure about the combat with swords, but dunno if its worth trying

Have played both infamous games alright, are good games too.

I tried the bioshock demo but didnt like it at all to be honest.

Have never tried any games by maker of fallout, but alot of people seem to be suggesting fallout 3

Fallout certaintly sounds class alright. so the vegas one would be the better one to get?
The facr that you can go anywhere sounds amazing but my only concern with the game is that it will be excessively violent which i normally dont like in games.

Deus Ex looks interesting, do the decesions actually change things in the story that are any way noticatble?

Well I really enjoyed the way that in the Mass Effect Series you can influence the story yourself, that your not just following a set story, like how you can influecnce how the team react with you etc and gain their loyalty and things and that you actually care about what happens to the characters because of your decesions and how if you make some decesions it could be life or death kind of scenarios aswell

Also I really liked how that game took me 60 hours to complete and never got boring once, Im sick of getting games that cost a fortune and only last less than 10 hours at a push.

And that you could upgrade your ship, your powers, your squad etc.

Also the story I found was extremely engrossing and you felt very engaged with it throughout the story wanting to know what would happen next.

And the way it had elements of a shooter game along with other powers was a nice change.

A game with some of those elements to it would be great. Image IPB

bioshock is worth giving a second chance. im not sure what you wouldnt like about it! the abilities are fun, the gunplay is good, the story is intrigueing and the atmosphere is possibl the ebst ever in a game. its not just another FPS, thats for sure.

fallout3 took me two chances to be a good game. i rented it and thought it was awfull. actually what got me was the first time i jumped. the animation just looked so crappy, i thought "oh man if jumping is this bad, the rest of the game must suck too." its a good thing i re-rented the game and gave it a second chance. its got TONS of hours of gameplay and is a huge open world you can literally loose yourself in. fallout3 is similar to ME in that its another shooter with RPG elements, or vise versa.

between fallout3, bioshock, and DE:HR, youve got some pretty premium titles waiting for you to play them. so stop posting here, go rent thos games, and let us know in a week what you think. but dont forget about alpha protocol, which prolly is the most similar to ME. its just not as good overall as the first ones i mentioned.
