A shocking revelation for some, I'm sure. If you'll indulge me for a moment....

This past weekend I weekend I went up to a small (AND I MEAN small) condo I own in a small village in Montana, next to Flathead Lake. It's a nice place, one where you can get work done and do a lot of thinking.

I did a lot of thinking there. I went on several walks. This place you see is right smack in the middle of nature. Everywhere you look you see green. I saw a great many things while I was out and about.

It's spring time, the cows are giving birth as are the horses, they struggle to keep up with there mothers in the field. It makes me smile because it's always been like this, since the beginning of time. Man may have built structures but we have left a great deal intact and such things should remain that way.

For whatever reason we can come up with, the only consensus we can reach about Synthesis is that it changes everything in one way or another, be it with nanites or a propulsion of evolution (LOL).

But in all seriousness, when I think about the ramifications of such an act I am going to affect the way life forms in the galaxy forever and for all time. The cows with be synthesized, as will the horses, as will the waterbugs I see move so gently across the pond water.

We also have the trees and plants! The plants ladies and gentlemen! Everywhere I look I see a cycle of life and death but it to is beautiful, for you see, the plants will eventually sprout again and new leaves will form. How does a Synthesized plant behave?

Singularities aside, I find such an intervention to be abominble and beyond justifiable. We're fine just the way we are.

I took this photo here while on one of my walks. It was a fitting view of the area.

More fitting however, was the song playing on my phone. I never thought I'd have some large mental insight from Joey Ramone.

You can listen to the song here.

Yeah. Picked it the first (and only) time I played through the endings. Immediately regretted it.

I've always hated "ascention/transcendence/change the very nature of humanity" type endings anyway. Some strategy games like Alpha Centauri and Galacitic Civilizations also have them, and I tend to avoid them and go for diplomatic or military victories.

Those type of endings just don't seem realisitc to me. Having one in ME3 feels particularly out of place, as well. And even if it didn't, I'd find making that decision for every other living and synthetic being in the galaxy, whether they want it or not, to be particularly horrific anyway.

For the record - if someone changed me that way without giving me the opportunity to decide for myself, I wouldn't be happy. I'd be angry.

I wanted to know what would happen so I did pick it my first time too, didn't like it at all.  Reloaded and got the same damn ending in Red...

I also hate Control, it's way too dangerous.

I also hate and BW seems to be pushing for those two endings by poisioning Destroy with unnecessary kills.

Also fitting was the name of the album it was on.

"Don't Worry About Me"

He passed away before the record was released.

MANLY TEARS.

Well, yeah.

I hate all of the colors. Which is why, in future playthroughs, I merely stop after Anderson dies.

Head canon endings, FTW!

Me too. Sadly I also kinda hate that song (especially the Original), and most of all I hate to take the ending literally. And I hate that after two months I still haven't played a single minute of Mass Effect again. And I really hate that I hate so much since I finished ME3...

This thread is my new home.

I also chose Synthesis the first time around, it was a guilt-induced choice because of the arbitrary negatives thrown into the Destroy option, and I also immediately regretted it after the ending sequence.

Agreed to that, OP...there will never be enough artistic integrity in the universe to declare the destruction of the beautiful diversity of Life via Synthesis "uplifting" and the "best choice"

The idea that synthesis is BioWare's "best" ending has left me so disgusted with the game and them that I haven't been able to touch any Mass Effect game either, and I've tried.
I can get a little into ME1 before I start remembering that it's all "supposed" to end in this revolting outcome and I quit.

I find synthesis to be the most offensive ending to a game I've played... ever, and I've played games where the resident genocidal maniac got off scott free and smarmily informed the protagonist that only God can judge him now.

I hate it, too, more than I hate Control even though I think that one is more of a challenge to you as in "do you think you can control us?"

They never bothered to explain how the thing worked. But let's analyze
what they gave us. You got three lines from Starbrat about it:

"Add your energy to the Crucible's. Everything you are will be absorbed and
then sent out. The chain reaction will combine all synthetic and organic
life into a new framework. ... a new DNA."

"I ... don't know." -- yeah, I know what you mean Shep. WTF?
"Why not? Synthetics are already part of you. Can you imagine your life without them?"
"Then there will be peace?"
"The cycle will end. Synthesis is the final evolution of life, but we need each other to make it happen. You have a difficult decision. Releasing the energy of the crucible will destroy the mass relays blah blah blah."

So three sentences in bold. That's how it works. And it does it to
ALL organic life and ALL synthetic life. But those three sentences tell
you absolutely nothing. They make no sense. Then the little bastard
makes an absolutism which I've underlined in green. Now this means that
there is no more evolution of life because it is the FINAL evolution of
life. Everything is perfectly ordered now. No more chaos.

Remember what this has been about: they represent order; organics
represent chaos. They kill organics to bring order to the chaos. Even
Sovereign mentioned this. He's happy. The Brave New World has now been
achieved, and you joined with him to make it happen. Posted Image

Well I can't get formatting to work properly.

So if you believe in the Brave New World, then Synthesis is your thing. It certainly isn't mine.

Nice post. Also gets me thinking about how much I hate Synthesis as well.
What if Synthesis ****ed up Niagra Falls and the Grand Canyon? That would be awful.

I don't have time for such things Bioware. The political implications are so terrible it may very well cause me to have a stroke.

How such intelligent people could consider this, REGARDLESS OF WHAT IT SOLVES.

To say nothing of the fact that it doesn't solve anything. It's like a train wreck of fail.

Are you suggesting I shouldn't go around in a van, kidnap people and turn them into cyborgs in order to make their existence morally acceptable to me?

What if I brainwash them so they like it?

It sounds like something that was cooked up late at night.

It's a "Wouldn't it be like, totally RAD if..." idea.

I find Synthesis utterly hilarious in how childish it is. It's like two steps above taking a bunch of Synthetics, a bunch of Organics, mashing them together and yelling 'Now KISS'.

...Actually that's kinda what EDI and Joker's romance was, wasn't it?

Do you have candy?

People love being lured with such promises.
