Also... I'm flattered? I guess? This thread can't have been for me, I'm not even the staunchest Synthesis supporter on the boards. (We both know who deserves that crown.)

Stop straw manning.

I already am a part of nature. I am not meant to understand it. I am nothing compared to it. I don't want to ****ing understand it. I love it the way it is now. I love to see the fish the way they are. I love to see and walk in the mountains and enjoy it as it is.

I don't want to change. I like how I am know. Obsessive Compulsive and full of faults and a desire to learn.

The only death that Synthesis prevents is the extinction of our kind (organics) due to a tech singularity. Why would I personally be afraid of that, when we aren't anywhere close to such a thing happening? But my Shepard could indeed worry about such a thing, yes.

U made that up

I don't see how Synthesis destroys nature. Quite the opposite; plant or animal, sapient or nonsapient, nanites don't discriminate. We would finally have common ground with all the countless organisms whose behavior we now struggle to understand.

No they still do, if physical appearances are retained

Choice would still exist. Variation would still exist. The only change would be speed.

Speed of what? technological accelaration? but u r dragged back by a mortal body though

Do they? Did you choose to never have to worry about catching polio or smallpox ever again? Did you choose for your parents to infect you with chicken pox when you were younger? They were protecting you, and by your own logic they are abominations for doing so.

Shepard is not the parent for all organics

Then be disgusted, don't pick green, and hope against hope that I'm never offered that choice.

Most sensible thing came outta u today well done

You should be flattered. I could have had a great night if I didn't love beating around the bush so much.

You'll never be able to give that back to me Optimystic.

Wanting to understand something better is not mutually exclusive with enjoying it as it is.

http://xkcd.com/877/

And besides, that and the keeping pace with Synthetics thing are only two of the many possible benefits of synthesis. Effortless learning, removal of language barriers, eidetic memory, not needing to eat or sleep... the possibilities are endless.

And if you want your limitations that much, code them back in.

I don't want the option in the first place.

I won't change my body for that purpose, nor will I do it to anyone else.

I don't want to do it, nor do I want the option. You and both know people will abuse it and subjugate those who choose not to change.

Just like we subjugate the Amish now, right?

No - they are protected, by the very technology/society they refuse, and without interference. Those who mean them well or are indifferent outnumber those who would do them harm, and they have nothing that we want. It's the same principle.

All three choices end the Reaper threat, so being turned into a Reaper is not an outcome of Mass Effect 3.

Not sure if serious....

I was referring to people who wish to subjugate others. They retain free will don't they? They aren't drugged up to be peaceful remember?

People WILL be subjugated against their will, especially is said race was a agressive beforehand.

If that is true, then again - explain to me why the Amish aren't being subjugated. Surely those who wish to subjugate others still exist in our world?

Because the government wouldn't allow it.

We're talking about outer space here.

If a colony of a million people choose to live normally they run the risk of being subjugated by an opposing force.

Yes?

People always abuse power, which is why I don't like Control either.

Clearly he had not seen it yet. Lots of folks were distraught by that point so it's understandable.

A shocking revelation for some, I'm sure. If you'll indulge me for a moment....

This past weekend I weekend I went up to a small (AND I MEAN small) condo I own in a small village in Montana, next to Flathead Lake. It's a nice place, one where you can get work done and do a lot of thinking.

I did a lot of thinking there. I went on several walks. This place you see is right smack in the middle of nature. Everywhere you look you see green. I saw a great many things while I was out and about.

It's spring time, the cows are giving birth as are the horses, they struggle to keep up with there mothers in the field. It makes me smile because it's always been like this, since the beginning of time. Man may have built structures but we have left a great deal intact and such things should remain that way.

For whatever reason we can come up with, the only consensus we can reach about Synthesis is that it changes everything in one way or another, be it with nanites or a propulsion of evolution (LOL).

But in all seriousness, when I think about the ramifications of such an act I am going to affect the way life forms in the galaxy forever and for all time. The cows with be synthesized, as will the horses, as will the waterbugs I see move so gently across the pond water.

We also have the trees and plants! The plants ladies and gentlemen! Everywhere I look I see a cycle of life and death but it to is beautiful, for you see, the plants will eventually sprout again and new leaves will form. How does a Synthesized plant behave?

Singularities aside, I find such an intervention to be abominble and beyond justifiable. We're fine just the way we are.

I took this photo here while on one of my walks. It was a fitting view of the area.

More fitting however, was the song playing on my phone. I never thought I'd have some large mental insight from Joey Ramone.

You can listen to the song here.

If you don't like Synthesis, don't choose it. It is as simple as that.

Note how it just says legend...It makes no mention of Shepard going down in history as a beloved hero...

This makes me very sad.

@ Taboo, exactly. Make the choice for the people that matter, and I would never force change upon them, no matter how much I thought it might help. They deserve to decide for themselves.
