This is a question for a Dev if they would be interested in replying.  I was wondering why you had to sheath spellweaver before casting a spell.  Sinc spellweaver is a mage weapon then shouldn't it act like a staff when you cast spells?  Is this something that can be patched into the game?  Ok... thanks.  I'm not expecting a response but it would be nice to get one.

I would like some clarification on this, as well.  The desciption clearly states the sword functions as as a focus in the same way as a staff.
"Spellweaver enhances a mage's powers, acting as a focus in the same way as a staff."
To me that implies the weapon should not have to be sheathed for the sake of casting, as it acts like a staff.  I was getting ready to play as an Arcane Warrior, but if there is no weapon that will allow for casting without it being sheathed, I don't know if I'm interested anymore.
Judging by the description, it should be albe to be unsheathed when casting, and hopefully this will be soon.

Well, I don't want to be able to cast any spell with just ANY weapon out. Restrictions like that help balance the game. But I do want Spellweaver to do what it's supposed to do, and allow an Arcane Warrior to cast spells with it unsheathed.

So if you were using Spellweaver and shield, would you still have to put the shield away?

On a side note, its not much trouble to sheathe your weapons by leaving your second weapon set empty. Honestly, the best use of arcane warriors is to have them cast few spells anyway.

Yeah, I heard about the weapon switching to get around the issue. It's just the idea that you still have to switch weapons when you shouldn't have to that bothers me.

As far as what the best use of an Arcane Warrior may be, that will vary depending on playstyle.

Bioware created this weapon specifically for an Arcane Warrior, so, as the description states, it can be used in place of a staff. I liked the idea, but it's implementation is bugged. I'm hoping to make someone aware of this before the next patch is released.

A shield is a piece of armor, not a weapon.

Honestly though, sheathing doesn't take all that long. Put it away, cast a spell that causes it to sheathe (some spells don't), and pull it out again. You have to pause your attack to cast anyway, so I don't see a big loss there. On a side note, I gave Morrigan a sword and she kept using it over her much more powerful staff....had to take it away.

Then you needed to change her default behavior.

I had the same problem with Leliana randomly pulling out her swords and running into fights.  I changed her behavior to `Archer` from `Default` and things were much better.

not really, no.

its held in the hands like a weapon. its often used to smash guys in the face, like a weapon. its used to block and intercept blows from enemy weapons, similar to if you were parrying with the blade of your sword.

armor is totally passive. its like skin thats made of metal. a shield doesn't protect you passively, it must be used actively to defend yourself. its just like a weapon in that regard. its just a funny shaped weapon thats designed for blocking mostly as opposed to cutting the other guy.

You could say it blocks and intercepts blows like a piece of armor.  As it's primarily a defensive tool, and weapons are primarily offensive tools, I'd say it has more in common with a piece of armor.

For instance, you could take your helmet off and bludgeon someone to death with it, but that doesn't make it more a weapon than a piece of armor.

Semantics aside, I meant that in the game it is considered armor.  That's why it shows up in the armor section. Therefore, according to the game mechanics a shield is a piece of armor, and, therefore, should have little to do with your ability to cast spells with it equipped.

The issue is not how long it takes to sheath and unsheath.  The issue is that this specific weapon was designed to not have to be sheathed, and it's broken.  I would personally like to see it fixed.
