Why is the Archdemon a High Dragon? Aren't HDrags females?

And all the Archdemons seem to be males...

Who says that the old gods were high dragons, or even the same species as dragons?

Well they're obviously dragons.

They do look like them, but it is not certain that they are the same species or even what they really are.

Well, if it walks like a duck and breathes fire like a duck. I guess we can't be certain it's not a bear, but c'mon.

Are they? According to riordan, if the archdemon is slain by anyone other then a grey warden, it simply transfers into the body of another darkspawn, and is thus all but immortal. Kind of implies that it can change its shape and may thus not be a dragon at all. Otherwise any normal man could slay the archdemon and have it transfer into the body of a genlock ...

Or that the soul is so powerful it can reconstitute any darkspawn into it's old self.

Or maybe it can't. Who says the "new" Archdemon has to be a dragon? The danger of the Archdemon isn't it's individual power (in the end it's just a big dragon), it's that it can control the entire darkspawn horde.

It is a world of shapeshifters and demons able to possess bodies.

And different species can mean same ancestor.

Still the old gods always behave like and are thought of as dragons in all the lore. Even Tevinter who worshipped them as gods represented them as dragons.

The only difference between them and high dragons might just be their level of intelligence.

Though Urthemiel is referred to as a he in the codex, so therein lies the confusion, High Dragons are only female, but a number of Old Gods are seen as male

That'd still qualify as shapechanging in my book.

Perhaps, but it'd be a vastly different beast to control the entire horde as a dragon compared to as a genlock. He's virtually untouchable as a dragon where as any soldier would be a threat if he was in the body of a genlock.

I think that the spirits of the old gods assume the form of dragons as it's the most powerful animal known and due to it's tactical advantages. Flying for one. Also because they were dragons once they might use the form most natural to them. Asuming of course that they are the old gods.

Was it? Was sure it was goddess, eh I'll check later.
Still whatever gender Tevinter mythology imposes on them doesn't make it so.

So, what, we going to settle for same Genus?  Phylum?

But it seems like there is a finite number of old gods, which could mean a crossing between species (mule). Anyways, if they do not beget offspring in a M/F relationship, they are neither male nor female as far as I'm concerned.

Have to see if any Old God lays eggs, if it does then it's female

The "female" hookers are not referred to as he though.
