The Mantax Precision Rifle is a unique sniper rifle of salarian origin that was originally developed during the Krogan Rebellions, and later produced by Devlon Industries for use by the Salarian Special Tasks Group. Named after a manta ray-like creature found in the oceans of Sur'Kesh known to have a paralyzing discharge, the Mantax was meant to pick off and weaken krogan forces from a safe distance using an unorthodox method.  The Mantax fires an incredibly sharp kinetic slug capable of piercing armor or hardened targets from afar, then flatten, acting more like a high speed dart. Once embedded in a hard surface, the slug sends out electromagnetic pulses that disrupts hardsuits and overload neuralogical systems, which can temporarily incapacitate its target regardless of size. Devlon, requiring to modernize the design, took a page from the Geth Pulse Rifle, sheathing the round in a phasic envelope in order to increase its potential versus shielded targets.

Note: The Mantax rifle serves a dual purpose, both in rapidly depleting a target's shields, and locking them down for a short time in a charged state.  Its primarily intended for use by power wielding classes, such as tech or biotic specialists, as its light weight, coupled with its strength versus shields/barriers, and utility will be of great benefit on higher difficulties.

A single shot from the Mantax can act like Neural Shock evolution, depleting shields and leaving the target vulnerable to powers with travel time or for teammates to finish off in quick succession.  The weapon is also capable of forcing the stumble animation onto any of the larger boss mobs, such as Banshees, Geth Primes, and Atlases, provided they haven't been stumbled recently.  This can be invaluable as a fast shot during a Banshee or Atlas grab animation can save a teammate's life.

I was thinking today about a way to bring back ME1 style chemical/toxic ammo. I'm thinking it would be cool to have a heavy pistol that fires toxic/chemical ammo, it would have relatively low upfront damage but each shot would inflict degen damage that could stack with itself. As an additional feature it could charge up a shot (using additional ammo) and fire a shot that would hit with an area of effect.

I even have a lore background in mind for it. It would be a Cerberus weapon, one of the first applicable results of their long study of thresher maws. The weapon fires pellets of synthesized thresher maw venom.

That's actually a pretty cool idea. Or maybe it's weaponized Rachni venom cause remember when that one side-quest in Mass Effect 1 where Cerberus captured some Rachni? Rachni spits were deadly on Normal, let alone the higher difficulties.

^ Fixed.

Nice.  Haven't gotten thru with them all, eh?  Not sure I'd have gone with the Krysae as the image of choice for the Daedalos, probably would've been more accurate to use the Phaeston.  Barrel is too small and too obvious.

You might also want to include a link to the source, but that's just me.

I did try to avoid going crazy with the linking into the wiki, its easy to get carried away.  I suppose, however, that in a wiki format, there's almost never too many links as long as they are accurate.

I did defer to the wiki for some of the weapon descriptions for points, if only to compare it to what was already present for the game and in codex.  Part of me already wants to rewrite some of those descriptions, particularly the Gladius.  Only reason I think it has any place being there is because of similar information on the Krysae.  A part of the Gladius description seems like it should be on the Alliance News Network, but I'll leave it be for now.

There were other ideas in the thread, but these in particular had recieved at least some feedback, so I chose them.  If we get more, I'll do a similar write up and edit in links to the list of guns switching immediately to each post.  Not sure if this is really worth all the work.

@Riot Inducer - I'm not sure a charge to explode mechanic works in Mass Effect, at least in the way the weapons work.  Other than that, however, its a very nifty concept, easy to build upon I think.  Mechanically, it'd basically be a weapon which fires a stacking DoT (weapon damage type) as you said.  As a change up to the normal (read - Kishock) way this is handled, it should actually probably work in reverse.  The shot itself does only moderate damage, perhaps equal to a single hit from the Eagle, but the DoT is about the same as a round from the Carnifex with a relatively short duration, delivering the entire amount of 'bleed' damage in something like three seconds.

If anything, instead of saying its just Thresher Maw or just Rachni, I'd say its a particularly viscious cocktail of both, purified to its deadliest and then compressed in a Mass Effect field similar to how the Javelin fires ferrofluid.  Alternatively, they could've found a way to crystallize it, wrapping it in a solvant envelope and then fired like a standard slug only to have it penetrate the target and begin to liquify.  The results would be predictably awful.

Its worse to think, though, that mini-fabricators used in the field could actually generate this synthetic sludge.  I think we have a new melee attack or flamer power coming now.  Cerberus Engineer, now with pea soup vomit attack(and now we know what happened to the Quarian Female's soup).

The acidic synthesis sounds interesting.

N7 Thunderclap.

2-shot sniper that shoots shotgun bullets with accuracy 2-3 times better than the talon while in cover. Medium stagger chance. Long reload, and small capacity.

Actually, I had a similar idea to this.  I really do like the basic mechanic that the Arc Pistol uses fully charged (three lower power shots in a tight grouping at range), and it seemed like that's what the Incisor should've been in Mass Effect 2 & 3.  The idea I had, instead of it being an N7 weapon, was for it to be the next offering after the Incisor, which did exactly as advertised by the original Incisor(shooting three bullets in a single trigger pull with virtually no time between shots).  Maybe call it the Fang or something.

Have to be careful about damage on that Thunderclap though, otherwise every Infiltrator in the world will use it as it would effectively ignore Shield Gate (the single QQ point of the Infiltrator class).  Either make the damage very low per individual pellet, or make its spread greater, or make it single shot with a Widow reload.  There is another solution, as well, but I'd rather not bring that sort of element into the discussion.

Plasma rifle

Highly affective against armor and health.

This prothean weapon design was discovered in the mars Archives. Built by the Alliance. This weapon shoots a ball of hot plasma (50,000k) at its target burning holes through armor. The Alliance achieve this by heated hydrogen suspened in a mass effect field.

These next few posts will be to highlight a few designs that have been more thought thru, taken from within the thread and modified or cleaned up slightly.  Credit will be given to progenitor of the idea, and any differences can be argued for change.  The weapons will be listed in alphabetical order by name.

Great job! Love how thoroughly thoughtout each weapon is. Though the Bloodletter, Arc Rifle, and Mantax don't have visual designs to go along with them...

And Lokiwithrope...perhaps you could update the original post with these weapons? Just a suggestion.

If someone comes up with visuals for them, I'll be happy to edit the posts and add them.  I was thinking it'd be nice if we could edit the original post to include fully formed ideas and concepts with links to those posts.  As it is, I was pondering editing into the short list I made the link to the posts which held them.

@pureblooded88 - Interesting concept, might be able to be implemented by using the mechanics from the Reaper Darkstar with a very, very reduced AoE effect. It'd actually be similar to the idea Lokiwithrope had come up with, at least mechanically. Have to have a charge up time similar to other heavy weapons, and have a very tiny (read: one) shot per clip. Heavy, too. Not sure about rifle versus shotgun though.

@hiker7gax - Imagine how silly it would look with an asari or a quarian holding a massive pistol fit for a krogan? Works both ways you know. The only real trouble with making a krogan pistol is that it'd either be a super powerful sniper or another Talon/shotgun. Either way, it wouldn't be very original, and I'm not super into the idea of making a weapon just to have a weapon for a race. This extends even to 'geth' weapons. Closest thing would be making the Bloodletter concept a fully automatic pistol like the Eagle, amplified in every way, but we lack burst SMGs and frankly, a krogan inspired SMG of death will do in my opinion. Especially if they added a krogan adept with Slam, Warp, and Barrier...

I'm currently designing the Mantax Sniper Rifle, and its proving to be the most difficult so far due to its similar design the Scorpion Pistol, with the arcs and all. Just giving everyone a heads-up.

The third one down from the top looks the most mass effecty... the pistol at the end looks like some demon hunter stuff.. wish my DH had it in d3 xD.. i really want handguns in d3 omg.. but this is besides the main point =P
