I don't really know how many active players this game still has, but I just found the NWN Complete pack on sale.

NWN1 crashes almost every time I try to play it, but I played that some when it was new.
So I've been putting some time into NWN2 the OC lately. I've run several characters as far as arriving at never winter. I have a few questions/issues for those of you still on the boards. Btw, played the pen and paper version for decades.

General questions
1) There are 3 camera modes, but none of them seem to be very satisfactory. I can't zoom out far enough to see much unless I have the angle so low that things are in the way. Also the angle and direction are constantly shifting when I even get close to the edges of the screen where all the icons are. Any suggestions or is it just learn to live with it.

2) Spell casting seems horribly difficult unless I constantly pause the game to select targets or chose areas of effect. This seems like it would be very limiting in a multiplayer situation where I assume everyone isnt allowed to constatnly pause the action for everyone else. Am I missing something or does everyone just pick martial classes or buffing spells?

3) 'Henchmen NPCs,' Khelgar keeps walking across found traps even if I tell him to hold his position. Nereeka instantly burns through any consumable like potions that I give her. If I set one up with a bow, she keeps using it even when dying from attacks of opportunity from being surrounded in melee. Elanee uses her best spells on a single skeleton. Any way I can get them to not behave so stupidly?

4) Whenever I start have a conversation with anyone it switches back to my main character away from the henchmen. Doesn't that pretty much mean I have to take a main character with diplomacy, bluff, intimidate, appraise, etc... if I want to convince anyone to do anything my way?

5) Not that I have anyone high enough level to make anything yet, but is there an easy to read/search listing of the recipes and requirements anywhere? Trying to scroll through multiple little books is a pain.

More specific questions
6) the 1-3rd level summoned monsters seem to die almost instantly and seem to be almost a complete waste of time. I've done some of the fights over a few times and seem to get exactly the same results if I summon a monster of just stand there doing nothing. Is this just the low level ones and it will eventually get better, or is summoning not a useful strategy?

7) Bard curse seems like it would be more effective than the bard inspire since it has all the effects not just the one you pick and it will often affect more people since the party is often outnumbered. Is this correct actual usage?

8) Made some poor choices (gave Nereeka exotic weapon, took beetle familiar, learned magic weapon, etc...) is there any way to change these without starting over?

That's probably enough for now. Thx for any input.

*  Prelude:  Although it is the "complete" version, you still have to download patch 1.69 and install it to run NWN1 well.

1)  Most use "Exploration" mode.  Use the "*" (asterisk) key to cycle.  A few tinker even further with the camera settings, but I just use the default Exlploration mose and adjust the mouse speed.

2)  Use the "F" key for "Fast Cast".  Also, you can drag the spell icons from the fast cast gui to the "quickbar".  In single player, I usually use puppet mode for battles.  In multiplayer, at least you are just dealing with one character.  In multiplayer, you have more time until its your turn.  People will wait for you to buff before the party moves on.

3)  Key "C" brings up the Character Sheet.  Click the "Behavior" tab, scroll down and change the setting for each character (or select "all").  I set mine to not use potions or items, I have them follow closely, and use "Scaled" casting for  spells.  I let Neeshka find traps, disable traps, and pick locks at her will.  There is a setting to allow swaping between ranged/melee weapons, and at what range.

Press "V", then go through the voice commands.  Drag the icons you want to control your NPCs with to your quick bar.  Most use "Follow", "Hold", "Heal Me", "Attack", "Guard Me".

Just for info, within the Character Sheet, in Feats, you can drag many feats to the quickbar, such as "Imbue Arrow".

*  Any changes to the behavior or to the quickbar are not kept until you save the game.

4)  Yep, the OC goes by your main PC.  SoZ has a party system and lists different options for each party member, depending on different stats.

5)  I like Thieves-guild.net or maybe start at the nwn2.wikia.com

6)  They generally get better, and you can gain skills/spells to improve them.  Dinosaur is pretty good.

8)  Console commands (but can open a can of worms)

Can I ask where you found it on sale? I just found out it's not on Steam anymore.

Also, regarding the camera, there's a setting under the options to disable turning the camera when your cursor gets near the edge of the screen.  I also use Exploration mode, usually, and click on the ground to move where I want, to avoid the problem of getting stuck on scenery.

I also like this utility that swaps the right and middle mouse buttons, so I can move the camera with the right mouse button.  http://nwvault.ign.c...r.Detail&id=179

As Axe_Edge mentioned, you could try out the Storm of Zehir campaign instead, which lets you switch to different members of your party to handle conversations with skill checks.

3. sounds like a job for TonyK's Companion & Monster AI ( very pro, most of it is already included w/ SoZ, but he polished up a few things and added it to the Vault )

8. like Axe points out, the Console opens a big can o cheats, but can work magic on mistakes (and bugs). Changing a feat is easiest, simply look up the feat #s and use removefeat #, givefeat # ( # = row in Feat.2da, or there should be lists available on the web ). Changing the familiar might be problematic, never looked into it. Changing spells: a spell can be added using givespell # ( Spells.2da, or perhaps from a list on the web as w/ feats ) but I don't think they can be removed ....

- lots of information about the console (and other things) at Google: "nwn2 console"

welcome to DnD for computer. :)

Ps. pain's NeverLauncher utility is a front-end for NwN2. It gives access to all camera options (the ingame Options page doesn't). I think it still packages my camera-style, which i like a lot, natch!

If you also have MotB and SoZ installed then you can consider applying the OC Makeover SoZ Edition. Among other things it alters the conversations so that in some cases party members can be used to speak to NPCs rather than just the main PC.

If you don't have MotB and SoZ then you can download just the conversation altering scripts for the OC here. The way this works it alters the NPCs at the time they are spawned into the game, so this will only affect NPCs in areas you haven't yet been to.

Regards

I did have it download updates.

I had not noticed the behavior tab. Hopefully that will help alot.

Don't think I'll mess with the console commands for now. But I will probably look into it later. I'll just stick with 1 or 2 of the characters as they are, warts and all.

I'll try the link to look for recipies.

Not sure exactly what you mean by a launcher utility. But i'll do some searching later to see if anything comes up.

Just tried a scroll of animate dead. Seemed much more useful and longer lasting than the same level of summon monster. Maybe i'll try something heading for pale master next.

Thx for the tips guys.

Kaedrin's class Pack has a ton of bug fixes and a ton of new content: spells, armor, classes, feats.

I don't want to use a bunch of add ins modifications if not necessary.
I'd rather play it some as is first.

Then I might look for a PW if those are still active.

Many PWs are active for both NWN1 and NWN2.

Also, for targeting enemies, the [Tab] key will cycle through the ones you can see, backslash [\\] will target the closest. Use the Game Options control settings to set the [spacebar] to "execute default command", thus enabling you to Tab to a target, then attack it by hitting the spacebar.

PW play can be much more rewarding than single player.

I agree about keymapping those, but which key is best depends on the player.

Pause is useless in PWs, but very useful in single player and Spacebar is usually the pause key. I have "execute default command" in Q, and "target nearest enemy" in E. Tab to cycle between enemies as per default.
