Ser Evangeline... well, the climax of her plotline is complicated. If you're interested, I can send you a PM, but I'd rather not spoil it here. The red-headed mage is Adrian, the leader of the Libertarian fraternity in Orlais. She turns out to be a lot more devious than she seems, but she is never close to death.

Asunder is set several months after Dawn of the Seeker and immediately prior to Cassandra's interrogation of Varric.

That would be great, thanks!

Cassandra has her own fan thread. Not everybody loves her. Besides, the Divine's right hand has better things to do than slum around with a bunch of first level adventurers. Galyan, on the other hand, is just beginning his adventuring career. He's at precisely the right point in his career to be joining forces with the Savior of Thedas.
I'd personally prefer to see Cassandra as a plot heavy NPC that we have a lot of contact with (kinda like how we used to run errands for Cullen in DA2) rather than a companion, because, as you said, surely she would be too busy to run around with a merry band of misfits, even if the Divine wanted her to help our new protagonist I can't imagine her willingly taking orders from some random person of no rank or order.
(Plus I'm hoping Cullen will fill the role of warrior Chantry supporter.

Why not? it wouldn't be the first time, as I recall the hero of river dane took orders from a jr warden recruit.Galyan didn't go looking for adventure, he was forced into it and not very involved with the exception of a few quick scrapes.
The 'savior of thedas' might be a little premature...especially with Inquistion, dlc like legacy allowing you to give worship to the old god dumat and the rumor that we'll be able to travel to tevinter. The protagonist could very well end up being the Savior/ Archon/Knight commander/Emperor of thedas.

Wrangling aside, Galyan's situation makes him a good pick for inclusion as one possible companion. He is moderate in his views. He is a familiar face, but he has not already been shoved down our throats repeatedly. He seems competent and affable. He is not so ridiculously advanced in terms of his abilities that players will wonder why he is bothering with them. And Mike Laidlaw himself said that we haven't seen the last of him.
They're going to have to give us some mages for the party, and at least one of them had better have some healing abilities. Why shouldn't one of them be Galyan?

LOL Or just cajones of steel! Bold, that one, I'll give him that.thats1evildude wrote...
I'll give Galyan points for his dedication to comedy over his own personal well being. When he and Cassandra were rolling around on the ground, cracking a sex joke to the angry Seeker was about the dumbest thing he could have done, but he did it anyway.

Think I'll be sticking with my favorite Templar! :-D

I like our favorite templar, too, and if both of them wind up as LIs, I'll definitely save a few games for him, but I'm not ready to give up on Galyan quite yet. After all, we are going to need more than one LI per gender.
I don't have a link, but I recall DG saying that his one regret about the LIs in DA2 was that the male LIs were too similar. Fenris and Anders do have a lot of similarities. Galyan and Cullen have little in common, and I'd expect their romances would play out very differently.
If I had my way, Cullen's romance would be the "difficult" one, fraught with obstacles, restrained emotion, and of course, brooding. He has overcome a lot in his life, but love is the one thing he has never allowed himself.
Galyan is much more open about his feelings and he doesn't have the scars that Cullen does. Every romance needs challenge. With Galyan, I imagine the challenge would be to get him to take it seriously, to make him understand that s/he does really mean it and that it isn't all just a game. I could see him coming in all flirty and easy-going and then facing a serious "Oh carp, what now?!" when s/he decides to flirt back.
That was what I got from Galyan's look at Cassandra at the end. "How could this possibly end any differently? Who would ever accept a mage? Smile, my lad, and make the most of it. You were never going to be more than friends." With Cassandra, this may be true, but it's easy for me to imagine protagonists that would enjoy proving him wrong.

I think that Galyan is sweet on Cassandra, but I interpreted her expressions at the end to be more "I respect you. You've taught me that not all mages deserve an excruciating death." rather than "I never wanted anyone as much as I want you." And I interpret Galyan's expression at the end as resigned acceptance at being friendzoned rather than quiet anticipation of the pleasures that will follow once the end credits roll.

I didn't get that impression at all, the way she looked at him when he was healing the wound on her leg and a couple of other subtle little looks they gave each other, I think Cass was definitely warming to him and was attracted to him... I think if they had been on their quest for an extended period of time, eventually something would have happened between them. The only problem I see with them not getting together is her prejudice towards Mages and her Seeker title. Mind you, it didn't stop Rhys and Evangeline getting together LOL.

True, they were together only a couple of days at most.
Galyan does accomplish the more difficult feat of changing Cassandra's beliefs to be accepting of mages (if not blood mages).
