Have you played swtor? There is like NO exploration there. In fact swtor was so bad that I tried to forget about it, but I can't.Eelectrica wrote...
I like the idea myself. I'd love to properly explore the citadel and all the other places we briefly see throughout the series.

or they could even pull a ToR and just place it a few hundread years on either side of the trilogy story arc.
Though since Bioware is already maintaining ToR, I imagine we wont be getting a Mass Effect MMO announced any time soon.
On one side of the arc, humanity would be struggling with inter country disputes and warfare, and do not have any vessels capable of making it past the moon. On the other, everyone is recovering from the utter destruction of the galactic transportation medium they grew accustomed to using. I dont think its quite the same situation.
Don't forget that the entire Quarian race and Turian fleet is starving to death in orbit of earth, Krogan who may be cured of the Genophage (this brings up the fact they would have to cannonize the "real" major lore choices, thus ruining our own play throughs relevance even further) are over populating an even more ruined planet then their own and no one has any way to leave. Also any and all technology based on the series name sake, Mass Effect, no longer exists - thus no ships, no biotics, no FTL, no current weapons ect.. Yeah that sounds like a fun setting to play in.
An mmo would just not work in this universe and it would be a mistake to try.

My favorite part of the universe, honestly, is Bioware's characterization and storytelling, which isn't something that is particularly well-reflected in an MMO (even on SW:TOR, the good part is the early part which just plays like a single player game).
I'd rather just play Mass Effect 4, set a thousand years after the dust settles from Mass Effect 3.

It's such a rich universe; so many ways you could go with it. Although I'd prefer if it was a more unconventional MMO: Less necessary grouping, absence or different handling (than other MMOs) of raids, etc.
I'd love to walk the streets of Omega as a Batarian gang member, do mercenary work as a Turian on backwater planets, fight Geth as a Quarian.
I suppose I really don't mind whether it's an MMO or another single player game, I just want to see the Mass Effect universe from different perspectives.
Although, I'm one of those people that thoroughly enjoyed SW:TOR, even without having ever cared for the universe itself.

the only question is, can they make a 'good' MMO out of it?

I would really like to see more SP games set within the ME universe. Could be along the lines of Anderson ( almost ) becoming a Spectre, the first contact wars, the Krogen Genophage. The options are endless for prequels to the trilogy.

A instanced but persistent area would be best, rather then 'areas' we would have specific areas on each planet that are playable within much like how missions currently work in the games. Second there would have to not be drops, but rather monetary rewards based on certain factors, for example say killing a varen nets you 50 credits and favor with local merchants of the planet you were on at the time while killing pirates might give you more credits and favor with the local militia instead allowing you to spend credits/favor to perchase greater equipment or mods.
Fourth and probably the most important, the timeline would need to be pretty far along from when ME3 takes place. I want to say around three hundred years but with the longevity of asari and krogan it may need to be even farther along so people arnt poping up going hur hur where is grunt and liara? This would give a large cooling down period after the events in ME3, relays are being built and galaxies are being connected: with out the unifying threat that is the reapers the galaxy would have had plenty of time to become a place ripe with the threat of war and pirates not to mention the more prolific species being forced into small galaxies while the relays were being rebuilt.

Absolutely. So long as it's set either prior to the Reaper invasion, or millenia after.
I think anything set prior to the Reaper invasion will be pretty boring. You know, no matter what happens in the game, that in a hundred or a thousand years, Galactic Civilization is going to be in ruins and the entire relay network will be destroyed.
What's interesting is what happens after centuries of separate development, when civilizations are thrust together after a new relay network is constructed, and they may not get along quite as well as they used to.
I don't think setting any games in the Mass Effect universe prior to Mass Effect 1 would be a good idea.

For those talking about how ME3 wrote itself into a hole blah blah, yeah, because the entire Mass Effect universe revolves around Shepard and he alone, not like there's not trillions of other beings with their own stories and adventures, with countless 50,000 year cycles to choose from.
