No. ME3 just...

They wrote themselves into a hole with it and there's no way they can justify it.

Mass Effect needs to die with what little dignity it has left.

I truly hope not. I'd prefer another ME RPG than yet another god-awful MMO ...

How is paying for dlcs (indcluding day 1 dlc ) any different then then monthly fees on MMOs?
I say we are already having this concept atleast on financial part.
Did the i mention microtransaction part? the Multiplayer store.

Its different because dlc is optional and you can still play the main game if you don't care about the dlc. For MMO's, if you don't pay the fee, you can't play the game at all.

MMO's ruin all series. Just look at WoW and Tor. Tor gave EA worst company of 2012, worse than all those mega-corporations that exploit people and steal missions and destroy the planet.

Will it ruin Elder Scrolls?

Use it as a way to 'rewrite' the ending. By basically not having to write one :D

While a traditional MMO approach would be bad, If the right twist was put into play it could have a lot of potential. First off the current system would need to be roughly maintained as much as possible, so people didnt feel like they were playing a completely different series with the same name.

A instanced but persistent area would be best, rather then 'areas' we would have specific areas on each planet that are playable within much like how missions currently work in the games. Second there would have to not be drops, but rather monetary rewards based on certain factors, for example say killing a varen nets you 50 credits and favor with local merchants of the planet you were on at the time while killing pirates might give you more credits and favor with the local militia instead allowing you to spend credits/favor to perchase greater equipment or mods.

Fourth and probably the most important, the timeline would need to be pretty far along from when ME3 takes place. I want to say around three hundred years but with the longevity of asari and krogan it may need to be even farther along so people arnt poping up going hur hur where is grunt and liara? This would give a large cooling down period after the events in ME3, relays are being built and galaxies are being connected: with out the unifying threat that is the reapers the galaxy would have had plenty of time to become a place ripe with the threat of war and pirates not to mention the more prolific species being forced into small galaxies while the relays were being rebuilt.

You mean kind of like DDO? I would approve it, but I would prefer the setting before the reaper war. Put it in the same timeframe that Shepard starts fighting the Geth in ME1 and it could work.

Great idea, but the execution of such would be key.

I'd rather just have a 'social' area where you use the non combat controls, and then just closed instances for missions like we have now, only having linear missions and horde mode missions. I'd rather wander aimlessly on Tuchanka and get eaten by Kalros while 200 people are running around salvaging random junk.

Kinda ruins the feel of things that way.

Why wouldn't you want a mass effect fps? It's not that they are forcing you to play it or anything. And more then that, BW won't make a fps, so it has the potential to be good, unlike the mmo.

No. Set before ME3 would be pointless, as everything you do would be undermined by the knowledge that Shepard will destroy it all in the end anyway, and after would be barely recognisable as the same franchise, and horribly, unenjoyably bleak and stilted.

Even assuming they fixed the ending, and undid the damage done to the Mass Effect universe in the currant endings, I'd still not be able to play it anyway of course, since I doubt it would be on XBox.

Most MMO's suck because the developers make them in a way that force players to grind and farm for EXP and credits. Eve Online is pretty fun for a while but the exploration is lacking and all the systems end up feeling the same.

I'd say it's definately possible to make a fun, in depth MMO in the ME universe. But, the formula isn't even close to being perfected, and honestly, i'd prefer an awesome single player where you could hire people online to help you on missions or something like that.

Huge, in depth single player > MMO

think about it. all the mmo's are magic and swords. none are shooters. mass effect is a rich sci-fi universe perfect for the mmo experience. theres a big niche out there in the market for this a sci-fi shooter mmorpg. theres nothing else that would be quite like it.

Immediately wrong. All multiplayer shooters are technically MMORPG's, to a point.

its an opportunity to advance the mass effect universe if set post reaper invasion. theres so much potential, the mass  relays and citadel being rebuilt. the resurgent krogan, the geth and quarians working togeather, homeless batarians, worlds being rebuilt. ( i assume the best possible outcommes as people all have their favourite characters) the potential for story threads is huge!

What resurgent krogan? EVERYONE is homeless (Well, not the quarians) at this point, not just the batarians. MMO's are notoriously inept at story advancement, due to their static nature.

think of the fanbase, all of us that enjoy getting sucked into the immersive story, who love the multiplayer. think of all the work done developing multiplayer characters, all the maps and locations from the campaign, the game engine and the universe itself. look at how attatched people are, the fuss kicked up about the ending. and all the people hooked on the multiplayer.

None of this has anything at all to do with an MMO based game. At all. Also, horde mode multiplayer is fun for a while, but it loses the shine quickly.

go on you know what needs to be done!!

And an MMO is NOT the way to do it.

They could make it like Guild Wars did with no monthly subscription. The Citadel would act as the lobby and you would gather your crew there to do some instanced missions. It would be just like the single player game but with 4 or more players.

Also, I don't understand people saying that this would ruin the franchise. The trilogy is over and there's nothing else to do except play multiplayer. How would a better multiplayer game that what we got now make thing worse than ME3's ending did?
