They could make it like Guild Wars did with no monthly subscription. The Citadel would act as the lobby and you would gather your crew there to do some instanced missions. It would be just like the single player game but with 4 or more players.

Also, I don't understand people saying that this would ruin the franchise. The trilogy is over and there's nothing else to do except play multiplayer. How would a better multiplayer game that what we got now make thing worse than ME3's ending did?

They've already said there will be more ME games, this was just the end to Shepards trillogy. Though given the ending I don't see how they could do anything actually interesting without massive ret-conning since they destroyed everything unique and interesting about the ME universe.

Prior to ME3's ending, I would have been all for it. I love the ME3 universe and there's no better setting for an MMO than a beloved, well established universe with a deep history and plenty of lore. Being a part of it, not as Shepard, but as a character of my own creation, was something I'd have enjoyed.

But that's because I assumed any MMO would take place after ME3. But with the horrendous mess they made of everything in ME3's ending, I just don't see how they could move forward at all. They've even said that anything they make in the ME universe from now on would likely be set before or during ME3, and here's my problem with that;

I already know what happened before or during ME3. All the important stuff, anyway. If I'm going to experience something first hand, I want it to be something new. I want to know what happens next.

And, of course, they're never going to do that. It might be what everyone wants. It might be - in fact, it is - their only chance to redeem themselves from such a horrible mess of an ending, by creating a new and interesting story in the wake of its events, but that's not going to happen.

So...unless they announce that an MMO is going to take place in the ruins - and let's face it, they're ruins in more ways than one - of the ME3 aftermath, I wouldn't be interested.

On another topic, I'd bet my left nut at least 50% of the people in this thread who decry the idea of a ME MMO would buy it. ME fans don't have the best track record with sticking to threats of boycotts.

I wish. No way we can have one with any substance now though. GG ME3 ending.

You could if they took the TES route and maed it a prequel. Like, making it during the events of and after the First Contact War.

I most likely won't get an MMO. Here's a few reasons, I don't have a computer that could run it, I'm not willing to spend a lot of money on a gaming pc. Also, subscriptions cost too much.

They could take a risk and place it in a time where there were no humans. That feels like taboo though.

So, if it needs a good time to do it, put it right after the first contact war, where there's peace and stuff. An MMO set during wartime is cool but no wars would work for an ME MMO, unless people want a short video game with 2 races.

I'd play it, there hasn't been a decent sci-fi MMO since Anarchy Online. Sandbox universe, class-less characters, seamless transition from ground to space, FPS-style gameplay, SWG-style crafting.. ahh, I can dream, can't I?

And a dumbed-down/nonexistant story, just like every other MMO ever made.

Bioware needs to get back to its roots if it's going to save itself.

MMOs are a bane on humanity, worse than war, pollution or the US election cycle.

MMO's ruin all series. Just look at WoW and Tor. Tor gave EA worst company of 2012, worse than all those mega-corporations that exploit people and steal missions and destroy the planet.

This ... entire post has so much wrong in it I don't even know where to begin.

I'm missing what's wrong with that post. Could you enlighten me?
I mean I guess I don't know about the claim that EA got worst company of 2012 (source?) but it's not unbelievable as many times the company that gets awards like that did something that annoyed people who made mountains out of mole hills. But to many people WoW did ruin the Warcraft series, yes it is a successful MMO, but if that's what a successful MMO looks like, I think I'll pass (been there done that).

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't like the inherent treadmill of MMOs and so I will probably never play another again. I played WoW through WotLK, and immediately after we murder the big bad, they are forced to conjure up a new big bad. This works with wow (well mostly) because 1) the players don't care about the story or 2) the players are so invested in the story that they love whatever story is thrown towards them [not a really critical bunch, but they will correct you if you misspeak a name].

Ugh no.  Sorry, but I think multiplayer is great, and I always though multiplayer had great potentail.  They will really have to work on story and cannon to make this (ME MMO) feasible though, and since bioware told Drew Karpshyn to GTFO, I dont see that happening any time soon.

Frankly, I'd love a Mass Effect MMO. The universe is what I love and the opportunity to have my own character partake within its vastness appeals to me. This is part of the reason I enjoy the multiplayer so much.

If they were to do it, however, I'd prefer they take a different approach than what was done with TOR. I liked the game, but it's far too linear. I'm also not a big Star Wars fan. For Mass Effect, I'd love to see an emphasis on exploration, the various social/political groups, and a return to some of the older features MMOs used to offer like housing. I'd also like for them not to make us special from the start. No beginning the game as the leader of a special N7 squard, or a quarian admiral, or as the director of STG. Let us earn our own distinction.

I'd also like to keep the cover-based combat, similar to what they've done with the multiplayer. Also include lots of customization for the various species from quarian environment suits to turian facial paint to human clothing.

Oh yes, and more sandbox style than themepark.  I wouldn't need some grand overarching plot to drive the MMO.  The singleplayer games have that covered.
