I hadn't really thought about it until my current 1-2-3 playthrough where lots of stuff goes wrong (I've always been a perfectionist player), but is it possible to skip recruiting Samara and Thane and never talk to Liara in ME2?

I know you don't have to recruit everyone, but I can't find confirmation on if you can skip both Thane and Samara and never meet up with Liara at all. Got me wondering what happens in ME3 on Mars...if that's possible.

it is possible if you have DLC character. not 100% positive if you need both, or just Zaeed. neither of Thane nor Samara offers crucial upgrades, so you won't be losing anyone else due to their lack, as long as you metagame properly. (I think if you don't recruit them, they just don't show up in ME3. also not 100% sure on that, but 99% sure)

as for ME3? it doesn't account for it and you greet Liara exactly the same way and talk to her exactly the same way, regardless of how you treated her in previous games

You need to have 8 characters for the CS mission to trigger.

Garrus, Miranda, Jacob, Mordin and Jack are all forced.

Grunt counts if you take him out of his tank.

If you get Tali you end up with 7. You then need to recruit either Zaeed or Kasumi to avoid Samara and Thane.
