Since the DA franchise seems to have veered away from more tactical rpg fighting elements toward a more action oriented style...

please...

PLEASE copy the formula the formula used in Dragon's Dogma....THAT is how large scale boss battles need to be handled.

In fact just go ahead and copy all the good things that games combat system did.

I agree Dragon's Dogma combat is brilliant, but I don't see them changing gameplay that much.
I would be happy if they just change combat so I can have more control over my character and not just stand there, taking turns randomly hitting enemies.

well they certainly changed gameplay a lot more from DAO to DA2 than it would be to add something like this to their combat mechanics...but if they simply added that "climb on to the big friggin' monster and hack away at him" feature it would be an awesome improvement...

that and cooperative moves with your party members aka she/he holds them while i stab them etc.

this type of stuff is long overdue in modern rpg's.

I'd prefer that they keep the current battle system. It feels like Dragon Age Origins but with a little more action, sure. It doesn't feel bad IMO. And the tactics being unlocked at each level is better than wasting a skill point on unlocking more or being stuck with just 5-6.

The only issue I have is if they are going to stick with Auto Attack, have your PC move into range like in Dragon Age Origins so you can focus more on the health, stamina, mana, flanking, etc. Auto Attack in DA2 is lame compared to just button mashing because you still have to move in range, and auto attack doesn't move your Hawke so if you knock an enemy back, you have to press the attack button again to get him to attack after moving back into range.

I would prefer they keep their original battle system and not revamp it based on another game, because that's when the "ripped off" comments start coming and then most of the fans will complain about how the old system is better and then someone new will come along and say "use the battle system from XYZ." And we're back at square one.

^ i just think what they did in that game is a natural evolution of ANY kind of gameplay involving large monsters and groups of foes.

quite frankly it does seem a little ridiculous that the only thing you can hit on a dragon is his damn ankles...this goes for any rpg these days not just DA.

There are definitely things that can be learned from Dragon Dogma, obviously the boss fights and any game should learn from them. Perhaps maybe the environments too .... umm that is about it...

I havent played it myself - they dont have PC version, but I have watched gameplay video and honestly, I am not impressed by the regular combat the least... all they managed to create is flamboyant combat and I am 101% sure DA2 can be easily adjusted to do something like that with simple animation/graphics upgrade.

"I hit you, you hit me, we are all very silly..." (Insert Barney music)

As for companions cooperative moves, that may not suit DA because in DA we have companions we can "assume direct control" and not.. pawns.

jeez guys i obviously mean adapt a similar style of combat with some innovation and not completely rip it off...

with DA's tactical element the "Fenris grabs guy while Hawke stabs his ass" mechanic would be that much better now wouldn't it?

since in this case you can either pre-program your companion to do it in his combat behaviour menu or do it yourself then switch back to the PC and deliver the killing blow.

i dunno, i think if DA is going to have these endless spawning waves of ****s trying to kill me at every corner the least that can be done is to make the combat visually interesting as well as fun to play.

Everybody is talking about Dragon's Dogma, I'll take a looh at that.

I liked the combat in DA2, it was a great improvement from DAO. At that time I remember a vídeo from youtube showing the combat system in DA2 before its release I hope they show us things like that in DA3.

Its the true rpg fans turn in DA3, forget action playing if you want that go play zelda or something. Bring back that authentic RPG feel in origins and I really hope, I dream DA3 is actually Dragon Age Origins 2. But it will never be now we have this Laidley guy running the show, I wanted the game Brent Knowles envisioned and you can see why he quit after seeing what DA2 would become. Come back Brent Bioware is dying.
