There are several examples I've noted mentally of people who were strictly pro-BioWare before changing their stance in the wake of Mass Effect 3's release.

Mass Effect 3 changes people, mang.

I'm one of those people.

You became a good man.

Well, I became a far more cynical one, that's for sure.

Again you assume.

I readily admit not being an authority on ME3, the TW series, and many, many other games, films, etc out there. I still have opinions on the material, and strive to know something of them to make informed opinions.

That said, I do not believe ownership automatically qualifies one as an authority either
; seemingly does not stop many critics from making their vocal distress heard while playing the role.

Certainly,as proven by those who think the endings are the only thing wrong with ME3.

Posting my honest opinion on EA would probably get me banned.

The only companies I still trust on name alone are Blizzard and RIOT Games.

And of course CD Project Red, however I am not too happy with the direction they took in TW2.

After the complete and utter mess they made of Diablo 3, Blizzard has neither my trust nor will it get any more of my money. Ever.

Are you talking about the fastest selling mess in history of gaming and one of the best games of this decade?

Fastest selling may be a fact, but there are a bunch of owners over at Amazon that seem to differ with that last opinion. Was quite surprised to see over 1600 ratings available for the PC, with an overall sense of mediocrity in the reviews.

Still, not an EA product.

I don't think much of EA other than that they do some things well (like free game demos) and some things poorly (crappy exclusive promotional DLC for every EA game). I'd like to see EA learn to be more profitable and successful with better business practices. I don't hate EA, I just shout suggestions at them until they listen.

That may be but it also has the most anti consumer practices attached to it so its hypocritical to laud Blizzard while criticising EA for its practices.

Mass Effect 3 didn't do any better and Dragon Age 2 also took a beating from customers.

Both EA products.

I hate them for driving good and talented developers to the ground, but I give them "some" credit for being what they are. A cunning devil.

Meh, it's a company like any other, but there are a lot of things I don't like in their bussiness plan: their war onused games (the continuous use of... god knows how many pass codes), changing some of their titles to cater to just about everyone, Origin itself, and a few other things.

I know this is kind of changing course, but anyone notice what EA is doing to Dead Space?

They are making it a Gears of War third person shooter.

Forget getting nervous and tense because ammo quantities are scarce. Now you just have cover shooting, and loads and loads of ammo.

Enjoy!

Cover based shooting? In Dead Space? Jesus christ.

I suppose I should thank EA. That's another game I won't consider wasting my money on.

Thought the Bandwagon might need this additional info: both Bioware PC products have less than 400 ratings each; hence my surprise at Diablo 3 receiving such a mediocre score with 1600+ ratings. Then one reads the reviews, more info is gathered as to why.

Statistics: the third lie.

Don't care for EA or a lot of their practices. I was also really put-off by the way EA/BioWare handled the ME3 backlash. I didn't have anything vested in ME3 since I'm not buying any game that requires Origin but to see the PR machine in action was kind of disgusting; especially when they broke out the homophobic hate mail which gaming "journalists" ate right up.

If their goal in everything is to make money it doesn't seem like they're doing a very good job of it. They want to compete with WoW, FarmVille, and Steam and none of those gambits seem to be working out too well.

I see them as a bunch of opportunists and scavengers. That's the only way the survive, EA just looks for a studio who has creative talent but is in trouble just like BioWare was when it was acquired, then it proceeds to get the better of that studio until its dead and then it moves on to the next one. I don't know what will happen to BioWare in the future but I hope things start getting better.

There's also that microtransaction model which takes advantage of the idea that "players are focused so much on the game" so they'll want more and its okay to charge more even when it comes to stupid crap that should already be accessible. I know its legal but is unethical business. I don't know how things work with EA but if they did not have those sport licenses I don't think they would be able to make as much as they do.

I just know one thing, I'm not buying another BioWare game without extensive scrutiny, ME3 was the last time they fooled me.

The only thing I truly dislike regarding EA and most publishers in general is the adherence to strict deadlines. There are design decisions that I take issue with in many games that are the fault of the developer in my opinion. The combat and story changes in DA2, and the shortcomings of Mass Effect 3 are solely the fault of BioWare, which operates with almost complete autonomy.

That said, I think I've got a higher tolerance for the corporate double speak and PR shenanigans that occur with many products. Generalities and half truths are the status quo there and they should never be taken as gospel.

I don't know. I don't have enough of their games to make any sort of judgement. ME 3 is pretty much it. A sample size of one doesn't allow for any valid analysis.

Actually no.

Unlike EA's DRM, Blizzard's Battle.Net actually has advantages for the consumer as well.
In fact, the basic principle is great and greatly helps the customer, the only problem is that the servers are down too often; however, that is not a problem of the system but of the company's greed, which made them unwilling to afford the necessary amount of servers.
