Of all the boss types, the Atlas seems to be the worst by far. On Silver or Gold, Phantoms are Cerberus's most powerful unit; the Atlas is just a bullet sponge that's too slow to be effective at all. I didn't even know Atlases had a one-hit-kill until today when I saw it happen.

Thoughts? Suggestions on making them more dangerous?

They should move like Tickers. And have flamethrower crotches. And have turrets for hands.

The Phantom is Cerberus' real dangerous unit.

Though they always could give the Atlas' cannon the same cover penetration that a Widow or Javelin has.

That could be pretty entertaining to watch.

Well they do have the ability to destroy your shields/health from across the map.

An atlas is still dangerous if not treated with respect on silver or gold. They are a bullet sponge but they are designed to be a blocker on a map. They can prevent a team from moving to a better more defensible position when faced with an over run situation or multiple phantoms. The game is fairly easy even on gold right up until the team is flushed from cover. In combination phantom and atlas are a devistating duo if the team is not prepared for them and sometimes even when they are.

The danger of the atlas is in support and long range fire. They are essentially a huge guardian shields for phantoms and other troops. If there is 1 or 2 phantoms behind them they become several times more dangerous.

Instead of it's slow firing cannon it should have the same gun as the cerberus turret.

So a YMIR?

Only if I get to trigger a nuclear explosion. Image IPB
(it doesn't even have to kill/damage the other Cerberus troops)

Yeah they aren't too scary, but they keep your head down while the phantoms come in at you...

Haha, I saw their one hit kill for the first time today too. They are just pathetic. You might as well be shooting an old Buick with no wheels.

And as far as phantoms, they just suffer from the inevitable tech burst or biotic explosion that are going off around an atlas.

Bad idea it could essentially keep you trapped in cover then just walk up to you while firing and OHK you.

Atlases are used to cut you off from exits while the Phantoms move in, they try and trap you and heard you into small spaces like most of the bosses. Increasing their speed would make them a legit threat, as people often look to work around the Atlases and deal with everything else first.

I think it does what its supposed to: Tank and pin you down.

Atlas its the unit with most HP in game, makes sense to not have that high damage output, especially when you have Phantom at your side(which are basically the opposite).

Actually atlasses are better at grabbing than banshees, brutes and sometimes phantoms they just have trouble getting in range, so for vanguards dont melee atlases.

I find anything that makes my controller rumble ominously or go "skree!" upon spawning threatening.

YMIR mechs would eat people for breakfast. I am patiently waiting for these death machines to be released into multiplayer.

Maybe with a class i don't play. But with the justicar, I run up to and place bubbles over atlases on gold several times daily and have never been grabbed. Their smash ability is ridiculously slow as well.

For the record, the grab I saw today was from a teammate carrying the package on the new objective mode.

I think the Atlas performs it's role just fine.  I suspect they're not really SUPPOSED to be deadly on their own... their job is to keep you pinned down or force you out of an area by being a wall of threat  that is not easily removed.

You're right, I guess I just figured Atlases were supposed to be the big boss since they shout out ATLASSSS and you can hear them coming a mile away. And they're like walking buildings.

Size isn't everything, it would seem.

yeah, my impression had always been that the point of the altas was to let all the mooks and phantoms get you while you were focusing on the huge walker.  cerberus brings out the atlas at the same time as the others bring out ravagers and pyros.
