DA:O resdents are so tolerant, its annoying. There are very few race-related comments, much less so discrimination, and bigotry doesnt exist. Game lacks condition-specific responses, like responding to the PC being a blood mage, being ******, or another race.

Introduce ignorant and intolerant people, so we can smash their faces in, or annoy them greatly by telling them we dont care about what they think, or that they have to deal with it.

Tis true though, I was expecting to get a lot of abuse for being an elf but nobody seemed to care. I cant understand why there are even alienages when everyone seems to get along just fine in happy rainbow land, oh sorry i mean ferelden.

racism is mainly present in the origin stories, to give you an idea which race stands where. After you pass the origin, your race only gets mentioned from time to time in dialog.

Dwarfs are not racists, where di you get this from? They have political problems, and are distrustful of everyone and they never make a race-crack at the PC while you are there.

Different race, okay, that's a pretty obvious giveaway and there is a bit in there but not much. Yes, a bit more discrimination/intolerance would be nice.

Blood Mage. I can see it in certain situations where it would come up and yes, some Templar/Chantry notice (they can't actually do anything to you as you are a Gray Warden) would have been appropos.

Sexuality. Unsure where announcing your sexual preferences would come up anywhere but among your party and a certain place in Denerim. With your party, they all seem either open minded enough/don't give enough of a crap to have any kind of real antagonism. With that other area, they cater to it.

Most NPC reactions don't seem to be affected by your race/class, etc. However, don't you think it'd get old fast if every npc said, "You there, elf. Why aren't you scrubbing the floor?"

If you want to smash in a bigot's face, play the city elf origin. Plenty of bigots to smash. :)

What do you want them to do? Cause entire quest-lines in Denerim to be closed off to you if you're a dirty dirty Elf, or make it so that as a human you can't do any quests in the Brecilian forests because the Elves attack your on sight?

The occasional jeering at you for your race if you're a Dwarf or Elf that they have implemented now is probably better than them OVERdoing it is my point.

EDIT : Although it is ridiculous that you can get away with Blood Magic with no consequences outside of your own companions, and even then you can get away with it

Oh yes they do...they tell you to "Move along surface dweller" which is racists towards those who reside on the surface...they hate casteless, oh man...did you not do the quest that involved the young girl who had a baby? She happen to be noble but got pregnant by a casteless, she got kicked out the family and the only way she could come back is if she left the baby to die. Dalish hate your PC if you are not Dalish, they distrust you. Templars hate you if you are a mage, they look down on you and wish to see you dead.

But yeah. The story has seems to drop its themes. It'll introduce a theme and then forget about it.

I can understand it a bit, from a design point of view. A bunch of special conversations and breaking from the path just to express racism would have been somewhat troublematic. Perhaps some DLC will feature it prominently, but I doubt it.

I agree with OP.

The setting feels too modern. Very few group members are cold and bigoted, and those that are, hate everyone equally.

Not enough Orlesian, Elf, Farmer, Dwarf, Witch, Mage, Qunari, bashing in the game.

The real problem is that there is never a situation where we are helped by aiding or being complacent around a bigot.

And for the record, this isn't really dark fantasy. It is high fantasy. The plot is very Ed Greenwood.

Even so. If you get the gay affair with zevran, morrigan and leli simply give you a traditional talk that you have to choose. Neither of them bats an eyelash in surprise or lifts a brow at the idea of being a ******. Conversely, if you get the fe-leliana romance Alistair and zevran will talk to you normaly.

Although Alistair does mention "hot", but thats not the kinda bigotry Im looking for, even though I can see wher he comes from.

Thats the final push of the game of a cheap imitation of existent racism. After those few lines at Ostagar, nothing ever gets mentioned about an elf.

I'm trying to imagine someone playing the game and thinking "hmm a little on the easy side, doesn't auto save enough, rogue and mage gear kind of bland and goofy looking, oh and needs more racism."

You just have to come across the royals, then you will experience it...and the Dalish will dislike you if you are a city elf.

I'm content with the party members the way they are, but I definitely see your point of view on the subject.

Perhaps because in Ferelden, the populace as a whole and your companions in partictular, don't have a problem with homosexuality?

The caste system of the dwarves was, while not racist, pretty disgusting.

Dwarves are racist in that they treat non-dwarves with contempt and believe themselves to be superior. Additionally, they are prejudiced based on their treatment of surface dwarves and caste members lower than their own.

Dwarves are just all around haters, not much to do with their politics.

You keep making use of gross exaggeration to get a point across. How are the dwarves social system an example of racism? They refer to you as surface dweller because you are such. If  someone in america refers to me as "european" I would not in the slightest feel offended. And the dalish only mention your race, and are not in the least bit a-holes to you because of it.

Neither the dalish nor dwarves ever express anything other
than a distrust that is understandable.
