racism is mainly present in the origin stories, to give you an idea which race stands where. After you pass the origin, your race only gets mentioned from time to time in dialog.

Perhaps folks are more inclined to make such comments to people they perceive as powerless? Folks being polite to a Grey Warden/Archmage isn't perhaps much of an indication of how they'd treat an elven Refugee?

various mercenary and other tough guy bands dont seem to give bat 5hit about you being a grey warden ™ and still dont care about you being another race.

Besdies, people dont instanly know you are a GW, but they cvan instantly see your race. So their greeting towards you could acknowledge that

As far as hatred toward elves, I think the reaction of the Priestess at Ostagar sums it up.

I was playing a City Elf and she wanted to talk to me about the Creator. I replied with something like how he wants to destroy everyone who does not believe in him. She replied something about taking my hatred elsewhere.

So, the bottom line is that humans, for the most part, do not hate elves, they just do not regard them highly. Because elves should be grateful to be allowed to live in their own neighborhoods with only minimal interference from the locals (ahem), to respond with anything less than warm fuzzies should be seen as rude behavior. Play a rude, bigoted elf to see how NPCs think you SHOULD behave.

Possibly because they can see the weapons and armor my party is toting, as well as my knfe-like ears?

You are giving me the argument about why commoner folk wouldnt talk down to you. It doesnt work in this context. Invest some skill points in debating.

They don't show a lot of racism, because my character could kill them if they did. Slowly. Along with the entire village.

Tis true though, I was expecting to get a lot of abuse for being an elf but nobody seemed to care. I cant understand why there are even alienages when everyone seems to get along just fine in happy rainbow land, oh sorry i mean ferelden.

In other words i have to fish for racist cracks and be adept at wordplay so that i can feel just a bit discriminated against. Thats hilarious.

I thought about it some more and there are at least four npc's in Redcliffe that comment on you being an elf, none of which you have to pick certain responses to get to. Anyway, I don't remember fishing for them at all from any of the npc's or companions and still heard them. None of them are constantly pointing out the the PC's race is different, but the comments are there. And as someone else pointed out, the PC is first and foremost a Gray Warden. The people you encounter may dislike your race, but they respect Gray Warden's and after the initial shock of seeing one that is a dwarf or elf they show the PC the same respect they would any other Gray Warden.

I agree with the OP. There's some comments here and there but they just seem to be there for flavour, there's no real sense of any consequence of playing one race over another.

I'd have prefered it if it actually could close the odd quest or made certain quests easier and certain quests harder etc. The more stuff of that nature going on in the game the greater the replayability.

I love Bioware's advertising.

Your origin story affects your ENTIRE game!

The only example of the origin stories really making a difference is flemeth/morrigan making references to your race at ostagar (they change an entire WORD in the sentence based on your race!), and a few lines if you return to your home (eg -> dwarf noble returning to orzammar).

I love DA:O but I felt they really lied about how dark and terrible the DA:O world was.

That is interesting good sir, cause I remember several things were changed by my warrior being human noble. Such as the landsmeet and some converstations.

What you speak of are mere ackowledgments of your race, NOT racist remarks. I think you missed the point of the 3-page topic.

So basically, what you're saying is that the comments aren't racist enough and that you want people to completely refuse to speak to/have anything to do with your character because the NPC is a different race than yours is? Or if they do speak to/have anything to do with your character it's only to tell your elf that they're a waste of space? Yeah, that sounds like a fun game. I didn't miss the point, I just don't see this huge lack of bigoted comments that appears to be in your game.
