ok,  definitely last entry now...  did my first platinum solo.  blah blah, un impressive, l2rocket etc  but as said, this is my journey from finding bronze tricky, thru to this.  I'll ramble more in the last post ;)

its been a ride, cheers Biowere! :D

===

Edit:  so i think I lack the time/patience to solo Platinum.  I've done a number past wave 6, then lose concentration or try to push things, which leads to a sync kill.

But as my 3000th game came up, I thought what better way to see progression than to go right back to the start.  So I did a recreate of my first solo with Justicar:  bronze, ghost, cerbs.  And yes I can tell my progress, it was so easy it was laughable.  10 waves survived, knocked ten minutes off the time (and it was a bad for time disarm, escort, disarm), and felt no pressure at all.

I think I'm now done for ME3, I'll play off and on, but this is probably my last post and last solo.

See my entire journey below...  or jump to the last post for latest info.

My manifest: social.bioware.com/n7hq/home/overview/

====

So my first solo!

An  unimpressive Giant/Cerberus/Bronze, 32:03, 78475.
Asari Justicar, defensive bubble+warp, Reegar I, GPSMG VII, no equipment except gear shotgun amp III.
I'd tired ages ago with infiltrators, human vanguards and wot not, but always would wipe on a bad money round, so I'm either better or the weapons make much life easier?
img706.imageshack.us/i/imagebmm.jpg

So I tried again, same character+map, Mattock X (and stupidly still had shotgun amp):
Time 27:34, 91819 and I feel it was less fuss, as the Mattock is a smoother gun than worrying about range and/or swapping between the GPSMG/Reegar.

Overall it felt easy with both, and kinda fun not having to res idiots continuously ;), so yeah worth doing once at least.

Congratulations. You're probably just getting better, after awhile in random lobbies where crap really hits the fan, bronze feels like a walk in the park.

...except for geth. I hate geth.

Ok still not impressive in the scheme of things (people now soloing Platinum etc), but it's my first Silver solo :D

Image IPB

I've not tried in a while, and it was surprisingly easy:  but then I'm happy playing Gold in a group now, have finished late gold waves when everyone's gone down, which probably also indicates my familiarity with the game.

So next up is trying for a Solo Gold

Soloing requires an entirely different gameply strategy than team games. I've gotten to the point I can solo bronze with all characters I've tried, and I've soloed silver with I think just my infiltrator... gotten pretty far on others though.... my reluctance to use consumables on solos I think holds me back a bit from completing them more reliably

Yes i had to use 2 media gels: one right at the start as i was telling a mate i was soloing and couldn't join him, and later when i got mobbed and phantom meleed (but not stabbed). Then 3 missiles to clear atlases and phantoms on the wave 10 hack at the top of the stairs.

I should add, i used an AF-rush Fury, Hurricane I, Expert V, SMG amp II, Shield amp III. Certainly i'll be cranking up the consumables for gold...

OK i know it's considered easy-mode, but did my first solo with a Kroguard :D

I've tried off and on (half a dozen times maybe) with Giant, or Glacier and Justicar or Adepts, but this combo worked.  Eventually used 5 medigel, so last couple of waves were tense) and three rockets.

Woohoo!
Now to do it with a proper character...

I love solo with my Kroguard, and specifically Cerberus Giant for some reason.

Good job

Edit:
(oops, I took Cerb/Giant from your earlier run)

So an update on my noob status:

Image IPB

:)  Ok yes, if you check my manifest i didnt do the platinum.  I can finish platinum in a group, but dont play it often, and cant solo it (yet).  But 2 golds, and the silver bronzes is still decent i think?

I tried to widen characters the used, and succeeded with (from memory) Kroguard, Slayer, Nova-guard, Turian Ghost, Fury, Phoenix Adept, Justicar, Human Adept.  <shurg>  i like vanguards and biotics, what can i say...

All in all a nice challenge, but i doubt i'll repeat it anytime soon.

Next update will hopefully be news of my solo plat success ;)

Good work. I've solo'd bronze and almost solo'd silver (got sync-killed by a phantom on wave 10). I find soloing pretty boring though, so I reckon that banner will be one of the last I earn.

64 minutes? Wow.

I just have to do 1 silver and two bronze games for the Lone Wolf banner to come to me. I did my gold matches in 30 minutes though.

Yeah that was 2 months ago, and I've gotten a lot faster than that  , but yes i play kinda conservative:  45 minutes is my fastest i think - Gold, Giant.  Doing solo silver, Fury on Glacier, i've done arouns 17 minutes.

I'm not embarrased by my times though, as the title - it's a journey of progression.  You start off "OMFG thats an awful time!" and progress to being better, faster, less consumables, and then jumping up a difficulty.
If all n00bs like myself ever see are 12 minute speedruns, then it's disheartening:  hopefully this may show it's possible to improve?

And yes soloing isn't playing multiplayer proper, but i do encourage bronze and silver players to have a go - it will improve some skills which are useful in co-op proper.
Cheers all!

I just had my first successful gold solo run last night-- about 54 minutes on Rio against Reapers with a Ghost Infiltrator. It was fun, but after a while I felt my nerves fraying pretty badly.

My hat's off to you for plugging away so persistently at it-- I know just after two days of attempting gold solo runs I was, like, shrieking and twitching.

First of all, good job :) I too am a noob soloer. Well, not so much bronze as I've managed to solo it for a while now with various characters, but I am still learning how to effectively solo silver and even gold.

I've managed 2 silver for my challenge, (the destroyer and kroguard), and have tried twice now for a gold solo (both kroguard), but I certainly don't see me playing gold outside kroguard v geth. It's just too much for me.

I had to laugh when you mentioned in your op that you 'stupidly had your shotgun amp' on while using the mattock. Well, the same thing happened to me. My first ever solo gold match (which was yesterday), I kitted out my kroguard with the best gear and consumables I had, including a shotgun amp 5 as I always.. ALWAYS have the piranha equipped. Satisfied, I started the match. Imagine my surprise when I realized I had the shurikan equipped. I remembered then I had used my kroguard earlier in the day to rack up some points for the smg title and didn't re-equip the piranha. I was so upset at my balls up, but didn't want to quit out as I'd loose my stuff. Needless to say the gun barely scratched anything. Made it to wave 10 though :/

EDIT:  Haha, just noticed how old this thread is!  Oh well, still....... gratz :)

I have just recently got my first 2 gold solos and am feeling more confident as a player now.

Don't put yourself down man! You did an awesome job. I think soloing is a great way to up your game and differentiate yourself from other players!

Edit: just saw an edit that said this was an old thread... herp derp.

It's a living thread ;)

Great to hear other people having a go at solos, presumably the challenges will also encourage people.

I do like survivable characters, it lets you get away with the odd mistake that much more:  Kroguard (obviously), but any vanguard, the Turian Ghost and Justicar are all very tough.

 Bumpy double post :wizard:

So with everyone saying how easy-mode the new EDI infiltrator is i thought i'd have a go at platinum...  Stupidly i forgot to pack my Scorpion, so it was all going swimmingly until wave seven, when i got phantomed - N00B!

Image IPB

I've gotten to upto wave 6 platinum a bunch of times:  Geth infiltrator, Fury, Asari Valkyrie, Vorcha Sentinel within the last few months, but kept getting crappy objectives (disarm 4's expecially), or making stupid mistakes.  I'll have to have another go with the AIU tonight or this weekend...

So yes I did play more after my last "last" game... and as it's the eve of the PS4, and I will likely start on other games like WarFrame for the co-op scifi vibe, I thought one last go at a solo plat.

So I went super safe: Filthy Turian Ghost, Giant, Cerb, PPR, Scorpion, geth scanner, pistol amp3, incendiary4, cyclonic4.

yes it's a bad time, i was playing very conservatively, I only used rockets on wave 10 to clear. Very few close calls, a couple of phantom swings, one banshee got a little close. used 3 gels and two rockets. overall very easy! and it sure didn't feel like that time.

hack (lower area), hack (sniper room), pizza

Image IPB

Many thanks to BSNers who carried my noobs arse, and Biowere for enabling it all. I've certainly enjoyed playing ME3, and this has kinda been a bittersweet end to my time. Great to have "completed" the game, but sad as it does feel like a bit of an end.
