Game crash possibly related to Toolset

I recently installed the Toolset to see what it was like (I downloaded it today as well), I opened it, opened some of the demo modules and looked at them. I then opened one of my saved games (it was a seperate save which I had made earlier), I couldn't make heads or tails of what was going on and so quit the toolset. Then I opened up DA to play some more and I attempted to load the save which I had made just previous to the "Experiment" save (they were in the same place, at the entrance to the Denerim Market District), it went through the loading screen and just as the loading screen starts to end and the game come up the game crashed to the desktop (with one of those "DA has stopped working blah blah" windows messages).

After this occured I uninstalled the Toolset, thinking that that might be my problem. I also, while poking around on the forum in search of an answer to my problem got to suggestion to look at the modules folder, I did and there was a DEMO folder, which had not been there before, I deleted it, though I don't know if it effected anything.

So, I then tried again, same result; then again with the "Experiment" save, same thing; then I tried with the previous save to these two saves, it was in the location on the road where you meet Zev (who I had just picked up in the game), this loaded fine. I then continued on and traveled to Denerim, the Market District opened like normal and I ran around a bit, pickpocketed some people, etc. I then fought the knight who challanges you to a duel; after the fight I went to enter the Wonder's of Thedas shop, it loaded and the loading screen was just about to end when the same type of crash to the desktop occured. I then tried to load up my previous (new) save in the Denerim Market Place and it crashed in the same manner.

So, I don't know what the problem is, the only thing I can think of would be something with the toolset but I didn't change anything, and I didn't save anything so I don't know what could be causing these crashes, they have not happened before with this game, and it can't just be random since the same thing occurs if I try the same situation again.

Any suggestions?

Hm. The existence of the DEMO folder suggests that you tried exporting something, which could have resulted in core resources being exported into your game's override directories. Check to see if there's anything in the following directory:

My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\packages\\core\\override

And if there is, delete it.

You may also have exported some resources specifically in the single player campaign's module. Check for anything present in:

My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\modules\\single player\\override

And delete those too. The toolset puts stuff into a subdirectory called "toolsetexport".

The toolset has a pretty steep learning curve, my apologies if it broke anything during your experimentation. If you're still interested in playing with the toolset there's a bunch of tutorials on the toolset wiki, under the "Getting Started" page at http://social.biowar...wiki/datoolset/

In My Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\packages\\\\core\\\\override there was an empty folder called toolsetexport, which I deleted. Is there anything specific I should be looking for in the override folder, I have a couple of mods installed which have content in the override folder.

It appears I don't have a My Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\modules\\\\single player\\\\override, I don't have the modules folder in My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age.

I do have one in my Program Files\\Dragon Age folder though , but it's single player folder does not have an override folder in it.

Thanks for the reply.

Try removing the mods.

As a rule-of-thumb, I'd always try that before reporting a problem, because even the best mods can't be tested as thoroughly as Bioware's original game.

If the mods were produced correctly, i.e. as a DAZIP file for the DAUpdater installation program, you can simply disable them on the DLC screen in game. Same applies to any mod of your own that you've exported from the toolset (as of version 1.01 - there were bigger issues with the original toolset).

If the mods were installed in any other way, it's best to uninstall them completely. Quick-and-dirty hacks to the game folders are a notorious cause of unexpected behaviour.

You'll probably find that when loading a saved game, you have to choose the option to force the load, because mods are now missing or disabled. This generally works, but, depending on exactly what the mod was doing, you sometimes have to go back to a save before the mod was installed.

I will try that later today when I get some time. Though I posted this thread before trying that because the game has been running fine for a couple weeks now with multiple mods (both just files in the override and DAZIP type) and hadn't crashed or shown any signs of problems until I used the toolset.

Sorry for the double post, but, an update:

I renamed my override folder and reinstalled all my mods. I started up the game, the save in the Denerim market place still does not work, but I can load my save on the road to Denerim. I did so and then went and fought the knight who challenges you to a duel. After this battle was over I save my game (in a new save slot, after deleting the old Denerim market place one that didn't work) and exited the game. I then opened the game back up and attempted to load the save I had just made. No luck, same problem.

I then reloaded the road save, traveled to Denerim and then exited, and travelled to Redcliff, this all worked completely normally. About half way there I had a random encounter and so after I finished that battle I saved the game in a new slot and then quit and loaded it, it worked fine.

So, I've come to the conclusion that for some reason being in the Denerim market place for too long causes my game to crash, which I don't understand.
