You can proposition Duncan (who politely refuses) in front of both your father and Howe at the very beginning. I was hoping for a reprimand from the Teryn, but alas, he never interjected.

Holy crap! After you mentioned this, I quickly went back to my human noble first save and tried it....sure as ****, you really CAN hit on Duncan, though it gets you nowhere.

LMAO! Whats funnier is Teyrn Cousland just stands there non-Chalantly while you're trying to get the ol' Grey Warden in the sack. The only time he actually gets offended is when you discuss recruitment into the wardens! Your sexual appetites don't bother him in the slightest!

High five, Bryce! :D

You can play a right sex-crazed lunatic as a human noble :D

Hahaha, what the hell. xD I knew about Dairren and Iona, but since I think Dairren is rather homely and my noble female is straight, I never tried anything with those two. Although I don't think I could have her hit on Duncan either, that'd be like hitting on her dad to me. :P Just wrong. Same thing for a dwarf sleeping with Alistair or Zevran, lmao.

Your older brother is going off to possibly die in battle.
The whole discussion is how your parents don't want you to go off to war, and want you to stay home, get married, have children, and carry on the lineage.

Another "open-minded" aspect of the family might be their dealings with foreigners (which apparently Howe hates them for despite having fought for the Orlesians at first while the Couslands were loyalists). They, or at least Bryce, even visit the land of the old enemy. Their heir has an Antivan wife. Highever being on the northern tip of Ferelden, it makes sense that they come into contact with outsiders more than most. Still, I'm curious how Fergus came by his bride, and whether it was purely an arranged marriage or if they were fond of each other too.

Thedas IS the world, you play in Ferelden.

Off topic: Thedas is a continent.

There is a limit to the open-mindedness though. Some people in my party don't like their leader consorting with nugs in a ****house.

But after first conversation ends and you're "sent off to bed" you can initiate some other conversations with some of the family members before you leave the room.  Leaving the room is what kicks off the next section of the origin.

Including a conversation in which Fergus says to his son

"Don't worry, you'll see a sword up close soon enough"

I believe Mr Gaider wrote that and got labelled a monster because of it

Fergus is such a psychic, knows who is brother/sister is going to be with that night and knows that Oren will get to see a sword real soon.

'tis the sword of truthiness no doubt!

I'd seen the trailers for this origin so I knew what would happen. When Fergus said that to Oren I didn't know if I should laugh or cringe.

Thedas seems to be a more sexually liberal world as a whole. This is not a bad thing.

It's a terrible thing for a Dark Ages setting... when's the last time you heard of a liberal set of accepted societal norms in the Dark Ages?

Uhm, you are aware that the Dark Ages pre-date the Victorian ages? People were in fact much more liberal about their sexuality during that period than during the early sixties, though I am not sure whether that included same-sex relationships as well. But does it matter much?

Thedas is the continent.

Thedas is also The Dragon Age Setting, which (as far as we know) is only a single world.
