The fact DA:O is even on the List for ONE console platform, is amazing.

Just because kids grow up with computers, it doesn't make them any more likely to understand the behind-the-scenes operations of a PC. It doesn't make them any better at troubleshooting. I find kids that grow up thinking computers are simple and easy to use are the ones that have computers completely infested with spyware and viruses and they are the ones that think you simply get a new computer when yours slows down. You know, a new one every couple years. . .
There's a difference between growing up with and being taught in school.
And I learned all my computers skills via experimentation, as did most kids my age.
Think updating a device driver is as simple as updating a device driver? Hasn't been that way in my experience. First, you'll need to make sure you completely get rid of the ORIGINAL device driver or else you'll have even more trouble. That might require a special downloaded application in and of itself. And when you do finally update it to get a new game working correctly (maybe. . . ), you'll find older games suddenly crashing when they didn't used to, etc. etc. etc.
Think driving a car is easy? Think you can just drive it, or do you have to get oil changes, fill the gas tank, take it to the mechanic, change the tires ...
Why not just ride the bus where someone else worries about that for you?
Why not ride a bike and lose half those problems?
Why not have to buy a new console every 3-6? You know, because there are never any game compatibility problems between systems (some, like Nintendo, have no compatibility - and some, like Sony and Microsoft, have issues even when they are supposed to have backwards capability), there's never any hardware problems with systems (*cough* DRE lawsuit for PS2, DVD drives on XBOX, red ring of death for 360, disc errors with Gamecube, PS3 being 8 on the list of 21 Tech Screwups of 2006, etc.), nor lack of game problems with a new console.
Much easier than a PC in all ways, yep. <_<
Honestly, play whichever system you like, whatever games you like. But I do so grow bored with all the "at least on my console I can sit in a comfy chair" and "with a console the game works when I stick it in." Because no one has a console attached to a bad tv in front of a rickety chair, no one has a super-comfortable chair in front of their PC, no consoles are ever released with hardware errors (or shortages - or long lines of waiting), and no PC games are just stick in the disc and play.

Thank you for making this point. When the Xbox 360 and PS3 launched, backwards compatibility was touted on both systems but eventually faded into oblivion. I actually switched my pre-order for Mass Effect 2 to PC for this exact reason - six years on and I can still play Star Wars Knighs of the Old Republic on my PC whereas I'd either have to haul out the old Xbox or start the game from scratch - with glitches on the 360. Think about how it's going to look in a few years time when the Mass Effect trilogy is over and done with and Microsoft unveils their new system. Say goodbye to all your 360 experiences.
And as someone who's been messing with computers since he was 13, I find it much easier and cheaper to do incremental upgrades to my PC. The few times I actually have to do a very costly upgrade (CPU, motherboard, new memory) it's usually not so much more than what I see console bundles going for in shops. Apples and oranges, really - I just tire of the fact that people keep insisting that their platform is inherently better. Your personal experience with consoles may be better than your experiences with a PC, or vice versa, but it doesn't make it a universal truth. I have a 360 and a PS3 on the desk beside me right now and I still prefer using the PC for most multiplatform games because the 360 sounds like a jet fighter when in operation. And I freely admit that it could just be me.

How long is AC2 campaign and what about replayability when compared to DA? Yeah, that's what I thought.

How many real choices can you make during the game? How much will your playthrough differ from that of any other player's?deathwing200 wrote...

I don't see the appeal of most video games.
Regarding the OP's list, every single game on that chart aside from DAO was from an established franchise. That any first entry in a new franchise made that list is astounding, and that's exactly what DAO did.
Not to mention that those games were all designed for the console. DAO's console port is reportedly less than ideal.

Play on a PC, go for it. Nothing wrong with it, if you have the time, resources, knowledge and passion for it. The condescension and judgment being posted toward console players as being lazy kids however, in a thread discussing console sales, and on a forum for a game with two console releases, is... well, mean spirited.
Not all console players are annoying kids, but all the annoying kids are on consoles. The price you pay for being mainstream *shrugs*.

Dragon age is on the top 10 steam list since its release, my guess is it sold(and continues to sell) quite well on pc.
As for the console vs pc eternal debate, I think they each have their own games.
I personally bought a 360 just for Mass Effect(yes I'm that much of a Bioware addict! Nice move microsoft btw!) and ended up buying it again for pc during a steam sale, and I must say it's much better on pc, I imagine it's the same for dragon age. But there are plenty of games that fit quite nicely on consoles(like skate or SFIV).
As for the console getting the idiots, well it's more mainstream but anyone who played a popular game on PC knows that there are lurking there too
As for Wow it's not a game, it's crack for mind-addled monkeys(yes I hate mmorpgs!).

And how can you expect a PAINFULLY dorky title like "Dragon Age" to beat out a title that puts hair on your chest like "Modern Warfare"? Any guy here who's had a cute girl ask "What are you playing?" knows what I'm talking about.

Remember AC2's numbers when Mass Effect 2 comes out... this is a new IP, and for a new IP in a crowded month (don't forget Forza 3 came out, too) this wasn't a bad performance.

You have girls impressed by you playing a video game, let alone a soldier-killing video game? Strange girls.
Ignoring the fact that I'm married to a women who was playing computer games before I met her, half of my current table-top RPG group is female, and even they are not impressed regardless of the video game.
Well, one likes adventure games (old kind, the King's Quest type adventure or modern stuff like Syberia, not Assassin's Creed) -
one has played Fable 2 mutliplayer with her husband from time to time -
and the other complains endlessly about her fiance's video game habit.
So even geek girls? Not impressed by guys playing video games.

This is essentially why I chimed in. For me, consoles have replaced PC's. However, I fully agree that people should feel free to play on whatever platform they like. But making negative generalizations about a group of people in order to reaffirm that your choice is the correct choice is just weaksauce.
As for backward compatibility, I'm quite sure I can't stick my original copy of Baldur's Gate in my computer right now and expect it to install and run without issues. PC may have a longer stretch of backward compatibility than many consoles, sure, but not so long that there isn't a new release of BG being prepared for newer computers. Yay for buying games twice! Hehe.

You definitely can. The only problem is it will only run at 640x480. You have to mod it to get higher. If you can put up with that your original BG disks will work fine on the latest hardware and operating systems. It's true that some old games don't work, but I think you'd be surprised at how many do.EggShen76 wrote...

Interesting. So you think console games are developed on consoles?
I don't know about your computer, but you can certainly run BG on a current Windows. You can even run old DOS games.I'm quite sure I can't stick my original copy of Baldur's Gate in my computer right now and expect it to install and run without issues.

BG and the N64 were around at the same time. And I run BG (vanilla) under Windows Vista just fine. All it took was a single command (I had to force-enable DirectDraw - try doing that on a 360).
I don't understand what consoles are for. Their function is extremely limited, they have forced obsolesence, their games cost more, and there are greater restrictions on how I can play those games (forced patching). They're no less expensive than comparable PCs (people think they are, but they're not counting the price of the high-definition television they need to make them comparable to PCs - an HD TV still costs a lot more than I paid for the HD monitor I'm using right now, and I bought this monitor almost 2 years ago). I just don't see why they exist.

"Hey, guy I might have sex with, what are you playing?"
"Hey, girl I hope I might one day have sex with, I'm playing Dragon Age!"
"You're... playing with dragons? Wait, is that girl you? Why do you have giant boobs?"
OR
"Hey, guy who I am considering having intercourse with, what are you playing?"
"Modern Warfare."
"OH. Let me go get undressed then."
Trust me, I've lived through both scenarios (my memory might be a little shaky on that last one, but nobody's perfect) and it's a lot easier to tell a chick you're playing Modern Warfare.

Personally I find it's normally...
Wife wants to watch something on TV.. "Fine.. go ahead.. I'll be on my computer for a while..."
Another advantage of having a PC.

Sorry had a nice chuckle at the naiveté of this post. Hehe.
You MAY play professional sports and impress members of the opposite sex.
You May be a professional musician/entertainer/actor and impress members of the opposite sex.
You MAY buy a nice car to impress members of the opposite sex.
You MAY buy a nice house/appartment to impress members of the opposite sex.
You MAY buy jewelry/flowers for your intended in the hopes of impressing or courting favour.
.
.
.
But sorry to break it to you, playing a CERTAIN genre of a video game is AT or NEAR the bottom of the list. Shocker I know right? Head shots in Halo/MW2/AC2 or Mana clash/Crushing Prison/FF in DA:O won't make you any studlier.
And for the record: I bought an X360 just to play ME, then bought it again for the PC. Bought DA:O for PC. I whole heartily PREFER THE PC, but I will buy Bioware games regardless of platform; says my stinky moldy in the basement boxed original BG/BG2 floppies.
