NO. It's fine the way it is. I want the game to track MORE stats, not less.

They should take it away because it encourages competition in a co-op game and then you get r tards shooting and meele-ing you because you"stole their kill"

Potentially an interesting option would be to give people the option to hide their scores from others, in case they're not interested in competition.

Maybe show the scores only at the end of the game... That is how I do it anyways...

Don't show the scores in-game, it just encourages some people to go off and do crazy stuff just to up their score.

At the end of the game, show each player only his or her OWN score and his or her OWN rank. You don't need to know other people's rank and score to figure out how well you're doing.

Or, maybe, since some people seem to want a competitive aspect to it, you could show everyone everybody's medals for a few seconds. Or show the #1 person's rank and score, but not anyone else's. That way people below could see how they "measure up."

so,
no score in game
then a screen with medals
then a screen showing YOUR score and rank
then a screen showing the #1 score

edited for clarity.

Personally, I think the tracking of scores and medals is just fine. I like to accrue medals and see how I did at the end of the game. However, I think it would be better if the game displayed only YOUR score to you at the end, and at the bottom, the team total as usual. That way it doesn't encourage competition quite so much, but you can still say "I scored a more than a quarter of the team's xp. I definitely pulled my weight."

The worst thing about the scoreboard as it stands, in my opinion, is that someone HAS to come in last. And even if that player was only a few thousand points below the 3rd place character, people often criticize or even vote to kick them after the game because they were the "worst" player, even though they contributed nearly as much as the person above them to the score, and may have even been MORE useful in the game, by performing more revives or completing more objectives.

Best fix in my opinion. Let players see their own scores so they can evaluate their own performance/build. Hide the others so that there's less competitive bs and less hating on the players that just happened to have a lower score or an off game.

Remove the score system. All it dos is promote selfish gameplay over actual teamplay.

you mentioned thinking other statistics would be useful. I'm wondering on your thoughts about what those would be?

See UT2004 or UT3 for examples of what a good stat system is.  I would like every major stat displayed after each game, and the lifetime persistent stats available either in game or on a web server for external viewing.

At the very least:

These four broken down by difficulty:
Matches played
Full extractions
Partial extractions.
Lone survivors.

Total kills
Total deaths
Total assists
Total revives
Total score
Total number of times down
Number of objectives capped
Weapon accuracy %
Total headshots
Headshot %

Number of kills by each and every death type, including all weapons, biotic explosions, tech bursts, fire, cryo, melee, environment kills, missiles, etc.
Number of kill streaks.
Number of medals earned of each type.
Number of consumables used of each type.
Number of bosses killed broken down by each one.

Favorite weapon
Favorite equipment
Favorite class
Favorite enemy
Favorite map

Here is my personal UT3 stat page so you can see what it ought to look like: http://ut3stats.dfbg...game_name=ut3pc

There are four separate tabs of stat types there, and each stat is tracked separately by pure and custom server.  THAT is what I would like.

I think they need more variety of medals for the games, but not entirely sure what new ones would be good. They need something else to work towards, and if they can make them teamplay based, it should promote more effective teamplay (hopefully).

Also, to those saying we should get points for revives, someone here once worked out you actually do, it just doesn't come up as a point pop up. I think they worked it out to be 500 points per revive or something? When someone goes down in your next game, before you revive them, check your score, revive, check again, and see how much it went up by.

...; points for everything.

, support classes get shafted really hard; we aren't rewarded for revives, healing, support skills like Tac Scan and Defensive bubble, etc. I think the scoring system needs to be more than 'did you kill that guy?' or 'did you at least shoot at that guy?'

This.

Games that give score for team play see more team play.  Co-op/team games that score for kills see ****s trying to get more kills.

Saying that I would not like to see the current scoring system removed (yes to amended) as it does give an indicator to poor players.  If you know a support class will be bottom, but they're scoring bad beyond expected, or leeches scoring nothing, then the scoreboard is all we have.

I think encouraging people to compete in a cooperative game is weird and unnatural.

This. Absolutely. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Also, even if they kept it in, they could increase the points given for capping objectives, reviving teammates, and helping others with tech bursts/biotic explosions.

Personally, after a mission my mental checklist is:
-Did we win?
If "yes" then "hooray, nothing to see here."
If "no" then I move on to.
-Well, why didn't we win?

The answer I don't want to arrive at, and I don't want anybody arriving at, is "the fourth place finisher sucked and carrying him or her cost us the victory." The answers to "why didn't we win" aren't things that can really be revealed by just looking at point totals. Things like "freelancer", "refuses to use consumables", "bizarre loadout", "doesn't use powers optimally" etc. aren't things that are going to be revealed by looking at the scoreboard. So I'm not sure what use the scoreboard is to me, really.

YES! I want them removed. Too many players only care about being on top. They run around like idiots trying to get all the kills as fast as possible. Just as annoying as leechers.

Also, snipers & head shots usually ALWAYS get top scores. Doesn't matter how well you play, head shots do the most damage so they automatically get the top spot.  You can't beat head shots. A player with a Widow or Mantis will usually always get the highest scores.  Total BS!  I run around in harms way taking on the enemy up close & the jackass sniper that just sits in the corner tops the board every time.

I don't get this rationale. I don't care what i score though I come second most of the time though I have been in all positions. I like to see my scores in line with everyone else's. If someone kills things fast it saves me the effort as all I care about is getting the credits. I enjoy playing the match whatever happens. I usually don't bother to hunt down the last enemy unless it is a boss which is good to team up on, and get to my starting position and hit an ammo crate if needed. Just don't care who scores what and everyone will be happier.

Why? If someone is idiot and just want "the kills", he will keep doing that, no matter if you remove scores. Or then, shall we eliminate kills from the kill feed as well? It does not make sense: for example, you won't be able to notice a leecher, or how good that set up really is (maybe you think you are doing damage, but it's a teammate... reminds me of that people who think they are killing everything with their Avenger... no dude, it's the rest of us with weapons that do damage...)

I would actually liked to know how many different enemies I have killed with all different weapons, number of games played, extractions,...

It's funny, when I started this game I use to think if I wasn't in the top two slots on score I was hurting my team. Now, if I see myself in the top two slots I pull off on try and set up more enemies for my team mates to kill rather than kill them off myself. The only medals I try to get gold are assists and revives...... because that's the type of player that usually wins gold.

I really don't understand why people have a problem with the scoreboard. When I play gold with friends, our scores rarely differ by more than 20000 points from each other, even when I'm using one of the so called "support" classes and they're playing infiltrator or adept. If you can't keep up with an infiltrator as an engineer, it means you need to adjust your build/loadout/play style accordingly. The scoreboard is a good way to see if your build is effective.

Even when I play PUGs and double someones score, I really don't care. All that matters is that we made it to extraction and they tried their best. More often than those people getting mad and leaving, they stick around and ask advice on builds and strategy, which I gladly give.

the problem isn't that they show the score --- the problem is more that ... you can have a room full of people "kill stealing" (which SHOULDN"T exist in a multiplayer game)... you could rack up dozens - hundreds of assists -- and they just come through and finish them all off...... Which is ALL FINE - TOTALLY FINE - i would never complain about that -- good teamwork...

But then at the end of the match they want to kick you because your score is low because they ganked all your kills...

Better to remove ranks. Then you won't have people keep kicking you from lobbies solely because they don't like your rank without seeing your skill or what else you offer.

The N7 ranks ARE pretty pointless.

Rather see how many hours people have played... or something else. Not just "have you promoted your characters?".

Anyhows, to the OP. Yeah sure, remove it.

Scoreboard doesn't add anything of value to the teamwork. Infact it just removes from it. I'd much rather just see complication of your own points and keep the points of others secret.

Now someone said that it helps spotting leachers, right? Well you can just look around and see who is leaching.

Oh and while at it? Just give the "kills" to all players who delt damage to the target. That way nobody can claim: HE STOLE MA KILLL!!!!

No. I like playing with friends and then whoever finishes with the worst score has to use a class the rest of us think is terrible as punishment

Ok remove the score...what then...remove medals to discourage players from trying to earn Gold for melee, biotic kills, shotgun kills...then hide XP earned to discourage players from trying to earn maximum xp...yeah that'll work. Then remove the kill feed to I'd hate for someone's feelings to get hurt when they see "jrod512ATX swarmer" 3 or 4 times consecutively...

The scoring system is fine...in the end players will make bold, risky choices no matter what...they want to kill...we all want to kill...yes it's cooperative but ultimately we want the enemy dead and players will either work together or go John Rambo...removing the score wont stop that...

Scoresystem is fine indeed. But just show the overall team score and your own score.

And suprisingly, score system DOES promote John Rambo style of gameplay. Because when people check the score mid-match. They go: UH-OH! I'M 2000 BEHIND THE NUMBER 1! GOTTA DPS HARDER!

Personally I enjoy the competition it inspires. I'm a team player through and through, but I can't deny the fun I've had taking shots* with friends whenever I scored lower after a wave.

*It was rootbeer, don't judge me!
