You guys understand the Alien movies, so I'll ask you guys these questions.

Cool. I'll do my best to answer.

Was this a direct prequel to Alien?

Direct? No. It takes place about 30 years before on a different planet, but it does take place in the same universe.

Did this break the timeline or the lore? I remember AvP happened in present day.

I wouldn't say it does either really. It's a seperate incident that takes place 30 years before Alien that just happens to involve the race  the original crashed ship in Alien belonged to.

Any idea how that Xenomorph could get off of that planet?

Presumably, it didn't. Besides, from the looks of it, it wasn't a true Xenomorph anyway. The eggs on the derelict ship in Alien are totally unrelated to the proto-Xenomorph at the end of Prometheus.

Are any of these characters relevant in later Alien movies?

Not really. Weyland is important because of his corporation. And David is important because he is a precurser to Ash and Bishop. Aside from that, not so much.

Why was Predator technology in this movie?

That wasn't Predator technology. Ridley Scott hates the AVP movies (along with the rest of us), so those mapping drones where simply mapping drones, as Mr. Freud would say. There's no connection with the AVP movies at all.

Hope that helped.
