I saw one person catch that this kiddie is a troll. I forget your name, first-pager, but good job beating all these other newbies of the internet to it.

Troll, sir... I give you a 9/10. You had class, proper grammar, and you riled people up. I applaud thee. (I'm deadly serious.)

Slimy maybe but totally legal, there are plenty of people enjoying the game without paying a cent, those that pay choose to pay, EAs business model is huge on micropayments, you can easily find youtube vids of their CEO talking about it, that's how they roll. So they release 'free' content knowing that they will make money off of it. Right. Corporations do things to make money, news at 11:00.

I love all the comments about how a lawsuit like this is ridiculous and would not be viable. Everyone making these comments is the reason why trolling on the internet was invented. No. I did not threaten to sue, say I was suing, or think it would be a good idea to sue.

No, you just titled the thread "Possible Lawsuit against EA/Bioware".

It's diabolical, really. 1) They get player good will from being able to say they released free dlc. 2) They get to keep players interested that are starting to leave me3 multiplayer. 3) They get to make probably even more money than if it wasn't free from people buying packs.

So... EA and Bioware make money, and players get new content at no additional cost. That sounds like a win/win to me, but apparently there's some subtle and nefarious Faustian aspect to it.

A company trying to make money is not a bad thing. Doing it in a dishonest way is. RNG is dishonest.

Every collectible card game ever invented would like to have a word with you. Your dislike of the system doesn't make it fraudulent.

And as far as defending EA against the little guy... the little guy is defined here as people who can afford $40-$60 for the game, plus a monthly fee for high-speed internet, plus the cost of purchase for your console or computer of choice. There's no coercion involved, and the stakes are about as low as they can get: if you don't like the RNG system, it's not like there are no other video games you can play.

For your next trick, are you going to buy a new game, then sue the publisher for making you play the game to get the final cutscene you paid for?

This is stupid, but America is also stupid. Nowadays you can sue anyone for anything with the right lawyer.

What's the old saying about if you give away free ice cream, there will always be people who complain about a flavor being unavailable or no sprinkles?

In grad school, a friend of mine was assigned to teach a discussion section in a freshting philosophy class.  Knowing that this would involve a section on Aristotle's Niccomachean Ethics in the spring, he planned ahead.  He bought the cheapest vanilla ice cream (in the big bucket) he could get and stashed it in the back of the department freezer for a while so it got rock hard, and he bought the most brittle plastic spoons he could fine.  So on one fateful warm spring day, the discussion on Niccomachean Ethics was due so he scheduled a quiz on that day in advance, but when he showed up he said:

"You know, it's a nice day outside I don't want to grade this quiz anyway so I'll just give you all 10/10s, and Aristotle is boring as ****, let's just go outside, hang out under a tree, and enjoy the weather"

So they went out and sat under a tree, and alerted the students to the fact that he brought ice cream, and handed out cups and spoons, allowing students to scoop out their own ice cream.

Invariably a whole host of predictable complaints arose along the lines of "the ice cream is cheap" , "the ice cream is boring", the "ice cream is hard", the "my spoon keeps breaking", etc.

So he turned to his class and said "Aristotle's argument is that the greatest good in life is to pursue true happiness, but look at all of you: you're outside instead of in class, it's a beautiful day, you don't have to take that quiz that was scheduled, and you're eating free ice cream... and yet you're complaining.  None of you will ever be truly happy."

And then he left.

...actually, that looks like some of the cheap shots philosophy majors utilize to railroad things so they get a particular result. Make it decent (though not expensive) ice cream, not deliberately frozen rock-hard and effective (if inexpensive) spoons instead of breakable ones.

You'll still get complaints.... and then the point would be valid and said philosophy major can actually feel clever instead of pretending a rigged result makes them such.

*edit: taking out "you" to remove some misunderstandings*
;)

Ah yes. Make silly claims and laugh at all the responses pretending it means something besides deficiencies in your social skills. See above remarks about pretending to be clever.

This actually sorta occurred to me when I read that post.  Frozen solid with cheap spoons makes it a tease, and skews the results.  Those are legitimate complaints, since they make it nigh impossible to eat the ice cream before it melts.  Complaining about the flavor or the fact that it's cheap store-brand ice cream, on the other hand, is more of an entitlement issue. [Insert lame excuse that this is an extended metaphor here.]

So, I wanted to make a point with this thread. A good way to make a point is to exaggerate or be extreme. I want Bioware to see this thread and realize people are unhappy and they need to do something. I also wanted to get a thread that would get a lot of hits and stay near the top. Being controversial is a good way to do this. It looks like I have succeeded in this. Thank you.

You seem to be back tracking. If that really was  your intention, you've failed to make your point.

You might as well be calling it murder if you're going to exagerate.

That's flat out wrong. Nothing they're doing is dishonest.

Take the example of the kid that has their parents buy a points card because he seen someone with the new vorcha and he wants to play that character. So he gets the points card by telling his parents that he can play as a new cool character. He buys 6 psps and 1 spectre pack and doesn't unlock it. This scenario, which I am sure does occur, is not cool.

The child may be ignorant of the system, but the system isn't being dishonest.

I'm sure the big corporate EA appreciates all of you defenders whenever they get attacked by a little guy.

There's plenty of reasons to criticize EA, but this is not one of them.

They advertised a free dlc pack that included 2 maps, 6 characters, 3 weapons, new gear items, 1 game mode. What we got was 2 maps and 1 game mode with the chance to unlock 6 new characters, 3 new weapons, and gear items with money or in-game currency. Free characters/weapons/gear are the bait, spectre packs are the switch.

This is one of the most unintelligent things I've ever read.

You haven't read the description of the DLC.

he Rebellion Multiplayer Expansion opens two new fronts against the Reapers: Firebase Jade’s jungle reservoir and Firebase Goddess on Thessia. In-game reinforcement packs now include three new weapons (Reegar Carbine, Krysae Sniper Rifle, Cerberus Harrier) as well as equipment, consumables, and six new classes from species that have lost lives or whole planets to the Reapers: Quarian Engineer and Infiltrator, Vorcha Soldier and Sentinel, Phoenix Adept and Vanguard. The battle continues – hold the line!

Last time I checked Mass Effect was M rated for mature... so if you want to go into legality, maybe the parents that allow and pay additional content for a child that features sexual, philosophical and big social issues like euthanasia  and existentialisam... well maybe those parents need to be looked at..... Im just saying its rated M, why is there a 11 year old scamming his folks for ingame currency with real money???? Parnets lapse x2, not ours or BW's

Way to ****** them off and prevent them from releasing free DLC for everyone. One thing in common about such frivolous lawsuits: Considerable payout for the party involved, more strict regulations and consequences that harm everyone else (Woman sued McDonalds because she spilled hot coffee on herself, McDonald's no longer has hot coffee. Loose example).

FYI, that woman suffered 3rd degree burns from said coffee and required skin grafts. That's more than just "hot."

FYI that woman suffed the waxed paper cup between her thighs to hold it, ended up crushing the cup and the logic behind the the law suit came down to her saying "They didnt tell me it was hot!"

Ridiculous, it's a free DLC. Aside from the matchmaking disaster, I'm happy and thankfull for the extra maps and characters and extra objective. Just give Bioware the chance to roll the matchmaking feature back (and fix the bugs) and I'm content. Don't forget all the good things they did for us b4, everybody can make a mistake. I personally am hooked on MP and hope Bioware will keep this game alive. Thanx for all your efforts in advance Bioware !

I am a bit far from the law things and details, especially the US ones, so one question for my personal curiosity - is providing random packs for fixed sum of money anyhow close to definition of lottery/gambling, or there are some exact and definitive terms, that make it okay?
