Well, I can headcanon that bond (something you seem to do), but I really don't feel it outside that romantic climax scene and the farewell scene.

In a way, it's also there in the Hospital scenes, but quite weak. I really had hoped for more. As I said, the idea of that bond gets damaged (nearly destroyed) due lack of interaction in second half of the game. If Ash had a similar amount of interactions with Shepard and the crew like Garrus, I'm with you: the bond is there.

However, Ash doesn't have that many lines, Garrus does. Indeed - Garrus feels indeed like that awesome best buddy. He simply matured a lot. Here I can say there IS indeed an amazing connection between him and Shepard, regardless if romanced or not.

In fact, Garrus and Liara have what I had hoped for Ashley's content.

I'm not headcanoning anything. I saw enough in the game myself to know that Shepard and Ashley have a close bond. Ashley, Liara, Garrus and Tali. Those are the people closest to my Shepard. Did I see such a bond with Tali? No, but there's still enough there to assume such. You get me?

Let's try a different approach ...

If your Shepard is NOT romancing Ashley, do you still see that connection?"
I can't. Ash & Shepard worked well as friends in ME1 (especially fem!Shep and Ash - they're almost like siblings), but the friendship path in ME3 does not exist.
I'd like to say that's the reason why I don't feel that connection. Sorry, MBE

Hmm... Ashley does seem to just quietly follow Shepard's shadow that way. Then again, that's due to her lack of interaction with the crew and Shepard.

I still consider my FemShep and Ashley good buds, though. I really do. Especially when she was trolling Ash for being hungover, and when Ash said that her Dad would've liked her because she's a badass military woman.

And those scenes are simply not enough for me.
Ash felt more present and more like a best friend (and lover, if romanced) in ME1. In ME3, the scenes with her are too scattered to create that illusion of friendship etc. Sure, I fill the gaps with terrabytes of headcanon - it's just not the same as if that stuff actually happens on screen.

Whatever, let's drop that topic for now, or this thread turns into a MBE-Data!show ^^

It's more than we ever got, and it's enough for me. Just wish she had another conversation on the Normandy and moved around the ship. That's all.

No, she didn't, Data. I don't know where you're getting that from. In ME1, Ashley was clearly Shepard's subordinate, not a lover. Best friend? Sure... she had your back, and she'd follow Shep to hell itself. But there was always a level of professionalism there, and that's gone in ME3.

That "lover" statement works for the last part of the game: when she tried to comfort Shepard and they nearly kissed each other, Ash became Shepard's lover.
In most parts of the game she was indeed more a best friend with a flirty attitude - of course, only if you allow it.

In ME3, that flirty part is missing. Well, basically everything is missing that made Ash great in ME1. I'm doing my second playthrough currently and got Ash back. While Garrus is joking around with the crew, Ash sits in her room and does nothing ...

Whatever. It's too late to change anything and if the EC doesn't bring back any cut lines, nothing will.

No... Ilos is when they crossed the line. Mainly because they ditched the Alliance, stole the Normandy, and were heading straight into a suicide mission. They were never in a 'relationship' in ME1, or were even allowed to have one in fact. In ME3 they are together.

That flirty part isn't missing, "Well now. Those big powerful Citadel arms giving you ideas, Commander?" Sounds like flirting to me. Maybe you only feel that way because of the lack of options this time around. Tell me what else is missing from 'Ash' in ME? Everything seemed to be there and in place, however there wasn't enough of it.

MBE - sure, Ash does flirt.
Once every 4 hours of gameplay or so. Compared to another well known character, it's simply not enough. C'mon, buddy, you know what BW had in the sleeves for Ash. You know the script. And you know at least a third of Ashley's content got cut.

You can pretend everything is right.
I say, BW ditched Ash, dropped the ball, like they did with the ME2 characters.

Yes, but she's the same character. She simply didn't get enough content is all.

I dont know how you can compare ashleys me 3 treatement to that of the me 2 characters.....mirandas LI me 3 story felt completely empty and lonely and unsatisfying, as did all the me 2 LIs of course. they werent squad members and didnt even get a proper love scene

....Ash has much more than any of them  and overall I WAS satisfied with my ash romance, I think she got just enough but I agree w/ mbe that she needed at least 1 more convo and to move around....and kaidan getting anything more than ash is straight bull s***

More than Tali got, they are totally fine, but Liara is overdone. Or just make equal content for everyone and not just for Liara.

Problem solved

^^

If all the squadmates got as much screentime as Liara I would be beyond happy.

It makes me wonder what sort of game ME3 could have been if EA hadn't impounded Bioware with time constraints.

Tali's been a squadmate in all three games. She's got more than most characters, and more than Ashley. Ashley got the complete shaft in ME2.

We can agree on Liara. She's already got her own DLC, and is required for Ashes.

Kaidan and Ashley got around about the same in ME1. They needed a good story since they could both die.

Still you can get Tali as a squadmate in all three games. More of a win.

Substract Ashley's romance and she has little more lines or scenes than Miranda.
Yeah, I know it's unfair - at least Ashley was a squadmate AND had a beautiful romance. Doesn't change anything she got the worst treatment of all squadmates in ME3.

When I went through ME3 the first time I was so disappointed with Ashley's content I almost left the fandom and thought it would have been better to nuke her on Virmire. I'm okay now, but the knowledge of "what could have been" is a burden. Let's say without headcanon, Ashley died somewhere between ME2 and ME3.

The romance scenes themselves were done. The lack of content outside her romance is disappointing and damages her character.

Sure, we need our super hips on the Normandy. There is no Normandy without boss engineer Hips

And Ashley getting more content than Kaidan would be totally cool for you?

Or do you believe that BW employees are using a stopwatch to "balance" the two persons?:pinched:

Think about this way, if Kaidan is dead, Ashley gets more content than he does. Problem solved. You're welcome.:wizard:

Funnily enough, Ash and Kaidan actually do have a small conversation with Shepard about the one who died on Virmire, but it's stashed away in one of the missions. I think it's the one about the bomb on Tuchanka (it's tricky, bringing Ash or Kaidan on that mission, but it can be done. I think if you delay the mission where you rescue the Primarch's son until after you've completed the Citadel coup you should be able to do it).

Haven't imported a save into ME3 where I sacrificed Kaidan yet, so can't really personally confirm it other than through youtube. Makes sense though; most romances and crew members were all kind of rushed and/or had content cut. I don't know why they cut the content. Maybe it had something to do with animation budget? That might be why 75% of dialogue is Zaeed-Kasumi style.

Every character lacks interaction if their names are not Liara, Garrus or Kaidan Vega.

Fix'd.

Unfortunately this is true, but a catch 22 for me personally. I actually really enjoyed Vega; his character and all of his dialogue. The scene for picking him to turn off the geth AA guns made me laugh so hard the first time. He's also one of the few characters that actually comes up to your cabin to speak. Garrus, VS, and Cortez don't ever do unless you romanced them and consider the romance scene to count. However, I would have gladly accepted fewer lines from Vega if it meant more dialogue and scenes with Kaidan (or in other cases, Ashley). Liara is, of course, the worst offender; having more dialogue and camera time than any other than Shepard him/herself.

Landon7001 wrote...

Fixed.

But honestly, less about Liara getting a lot (or Kaidan according to you) and more about every romanceable getting equal treatment. Anything less than that is truly bullsh!t.

Actually, if the Ashley/Tali dialogue can be triggered in the game (I'm not certain if it can be or not), this may be what does it. I may have to try it the next time I run through the game.

If you don't plan on romancing Ashley, virmire the crap out of her. You won't regret it.

Kaiden was a better character in my opinion. His friendship with shep was great, and I really enjoyed his canadian logger convo at the citadel. Ashley just gets drunk and passes out. Kaiden makes the story feel more wholesome and complete. Plus, the guy is a true friend and much nicer than Ashley no matter how you treat him.
