Waaaat ? seriously ?
EDIT : just speculation, nothing to see here.

Where does it say it is speculation?

Here's a list of some other games to be showcased at E3. Also check out our gallery for the 10 most anticipated games to be unveiled at E3 2012.

  • GTA V
  • Resident Evil 6
  • Starcraft: Heart of the Swarm
  • Batman: Arkham City 2
  • Rainbow Six Patriots, Super Mario Wii U
  • Dead Space 3
  • Dragon Age 3
  • Star Trek: The Game
  • Star Wars 1313
  • Medal of Honor
  • Need for Speed, Crysis 3
  • Far Cry 3, Metro: Last Light, Company of Heroes 2
  • Xcom: Enemy Unknown
  • Planetside 2
  • Borderlands 2
  • Beyond Good & Evil 2
  • Star Fox Wii U
  • Sim City
  • Shootmania
  • Lego Batman 2

This list does look a bit iffy. Arkham CIty 2 already? I think it's meant to mean 3 and I'm positive they would not announce it that early.

They will especially if it's next gen stuff.

Asylum - City - City2. Third game but second City

Indeed. Do people really think that any game company would send out a list of its surprise announcements to websites ahead of time?

Yes?

Or did I just imagine EA's  press conference tonight?

You see, a press conference is where a company goes to make those surprise announcements.

No, it's where companies go to give the media a heads up on the titles it's going to be showcasing at E3,  so that  Ink/Hype can be generated, so that more  people can come to E3 and see  information on their favorite anticipated titles.

Frankly, I'm a bit taken back by Gaider's comment.  For one, he seems to be defining  Title reveals as "surprizes", when they almost never are, and  Second, he seems to be ignoring decade-long, consistant trends.

Perhaps he was being sarcastic, or meaning websites in general, rather than media outlets specifically. I don't know.

(At something like E3 there might be a mix of games media is expecting and also complete surprises. Maybe? I guess?)

I think I remember some designer sometime saying that DA wasn't planned as a trilogy. I wonder if they'll settle into a consistent cycle in the future, like a game every 3 years or something. I think long running games series' are really interesting.

Just so you guys know, if you go to Mike Laidlaws tweet here:

Mike's Tweet

You can see that he says there will be 'not even a peep' of an announcement at this years E3. Sorry to bear bad news! I'm sure it will all be worth the wait eventually.

*CRY* Well thanks for the info.

Actually, for me nothing is better than being presented with some lame teaser with barely any information. And given the type of rampant speculation that goes on in these forums, I don't think it would be very helpful other than to galvanize some fans for a couple of weeks.

I'm hoping that with DA3 they can settle on a consistent way to do things that most (not everyone of course) players will like, and then (unless they change engines for next gen consoles or something) they can stick with it and fine tune for 2+ games after that, focusing more heavily on the story rather than game mechanics that have already been developed. That should keep us and them busy for the next decade or so. :D

Not like they would have anything real to show at this point anyway.

Why so snide? Is it so horrible that fans get their hopes up over a franchise they're enthused about?Jesus.

Sigh.

I meant that companies which go to places like E3 to make announcements don't send out a list of what those announcements will be to random websites ahead of those announcements.

They will, however, make announcements at something like-- oh, I don't know-- a press conference at a major convention. And maybe put up news about the announcement on their website (and, indeed, any website) after the fact.

Which I didn't think was hard to understand, but evidently some people have trouble with this sort of thing.

I'm not usually the most demanding of fans, but in case no one's noticed, morale's getting pretty low around here. Fans are turning on each other. The reason people misinterpreted you Mr. Gaider, is that people are so eager for news that they're pouncing on every scrap they can and dissecting the crap out of it.

I realize there's probably not much to show yet, and we do want you guys to take your time and make the best product possible - we're just dying for some news. Add to that that we can see from your BSN posts that you guys are getting more and more aggravated with us and it makes for a pretty disheartening situation. Image IPB

Hey, I get it. You want more information. But if you're camping on the forums hoping we'll announce something before we're ready to, and getting upset when it doesn't come fast enough, you're only creating grief for yourself. If you guys are also going to leap on me saying something as simple as "companies don't send out details of their announcements to websites before they make them" and interpret that as somehow aggressive... well, don't be surprised if I get aggravated and come around less.

There was a time before DAO was properly announced when forumites got short-tempered and demanding, as well. Nothing I can say will convince you guys not to hang around looking for info on something you're obviously really interested in. But the information will come when it comes-- getting short with the developers is not going to make it come faster.

I can't help but agree completely. Image IPB

I interpreted it more as fans hoping that you were hinting that something would in fact be shown. I didn't feel like you were at all annoyed until posters responded in a way that showed they expected your comments alluded to some kind of surprise showing. I can totally get how that would be aggravating, but it comes from a place of genuine excitement from the fans.

Again, I totally agree. We should probably make a conscious effort toward not being this to Mr. Gaider & Co.

Personally I'm more than happy to not hear a peep from the DA team (other than the tiny hints we have been getting, which have been great) for a fair while yet. We know they are working on something, and that's good enough for me. This is a series that benefits from a longer development time, really.

I do want a Dwarf romance though, Mr Gaider. Sorry. ;)

What if we promise to say things like 'Hey that David Gaider is a swell fellow' on these and other forums?  Cause if that would help I can totally do that.  And if that won't make you spill the beans, perhaps there's a Bioware employee on these boards who would enjoy that kind of praise.  I can easily insert 'Hey that BIOWARE EMPLOYEE  is a swell fellow.'  Any takers? first one to respond gets their name inserted above!  Respond within the next hour and I will even repeat the above to folks in RL!

I'm a little disappointed that there will be no da3 mention but there are probably other gaming events and it means that there will be more time for working on the game. I just have higher hopes for da3 now.

Darn, perhaps I need to think of something a little more clever, which is odd, I was SURE that would work.

Winky face denotes joke

Addendum: TBH I'd be very surprised if there was no DA3 announcement at E3; I got the impression from Mike's tweet that it was a bit sarcastic/sly.

If there isn't, I'll be a bit disappointed, but I still have 6 classes to max out in TOR.
