I think that Bioware should of made all LIs bi. They did in Dragon Age 2 (Or 90% of them were Bi).

In a Galaxy where there is a female race that is heavily adored by most other races, S/S relations are and should be very common. So that flexibility should extend to all LIs of the main character.

Homosexual characters were more or less well done. No bi characters please, or at least, if they're bi, have it written in as being part of their character, not some Shepard/Hawke-sexual thing like DA2. ******/bi sexuality is not common, so it shouldn't be applied to every single freaking love interest.

In the ME universe it's very common lol and promoted heavily by the Asari race lol.

Not everyone is bisexual. Nor will they ever be. I hope Bioware don't try to pull that off again. I had little interest in the DA2 characters, barring all but Varric, Aveline and Isabela.

I'm fine with s/s romance so long as it fits the character. I actually liked Steve better because he was 100% gay and was only interested in men. He wasn't just another Bioware bisexual. It made him different, unique. In short, Steve being gay made him... well him. His character was better for it.

Basically, the option should be there, if your not interested in "such and such" being bi, then by not perusing them you'd have to reason to suspect otherwise and thus wouldn't bother you.

Exactly. While I absolutely love the fact that some characters are bi, or even exclusively homosexual, everyone being bi (except Sebastian) in DA2 rubbed me off the wrong way. It makes picking a gender for your character at the beginning of the game purely decorative, when for me me it's your first roleplaying choice. And yes, it feels a lot like it reduces romanceables characters to "protagonist"-sexual, rather than just bisexual.

I think DA:O nailed it in that department. Loved all options.

If everyone was bi, it'd be incredibly unrealistic in terms of orientation. I like the fact there is a good mix between straight, bi, and gay.

If some characters were bi, it'd also be very out of character for them and it'd feel like it was totally forced. Like Ashley, Garrus, or Vega. I just don't see them "batting for the other team".

This! And I think that making Kaidan bi so late in the trilogy was a weird move, they should either have made him bi in me1 or not at all, so I am with you OP about the bi characters being there from the beginning.

I see where you are coming from with this, but I have to admit, that to me that would be faulty logic for the developer to do. I mean, why does their bisexuality have to be hidden unless unlocked? Is it too ugly for "normal" players to deal with? Why not just be unfront with the few characters who are what they are?

It would be more the point that, if your not interested in such and such, they'd have no reason to force their sexuality on you, you might catch the odd hint which can be taken as a flirt or humour.

Some would be open, some would be more private about it.

I agree kinda, but not on being Bi from the start.

Shepard is a very, appealing character. What could start out as a S/S friendship could lead to "such and such" char feeling more then they should for their friend etc.

It just seems to me that the chance of Shepard running into homosexual or bisexual Humans is just a tiny bit on the extraordinary side.

The available encounters are slightly high IMHO.

I dunno. It's the 22nd century. People probably don't have any trouble saying they're ******/bi anymore.

As extraordinary as Shepard getting other species to engage in interspecies seuxal contact with him/her?  lol

Yet, that assumes there are quite a significantly (very heavily) larger percentage of people today that are closeted.

Then again, Shepard has much more opportunities for hooking-up in general than what makes believable sense to me. I guess that just adjusts across all gender preferences. So, it's not really a ******/bi thing but rather just too many opportunities in general.

It's interesting to me how so few interactive crew members have their own families (as in husband/wife/kids/unmarried partners). In fact, it seems that Cortez is the only one that was married (and Kaidan had a sort-of girlfriend in his past). I'm not sure how Samara fits in with this. She had to have a bond-mate a few times.

Well it's obviously getting better, but it's still hard to naturally come out of the closet - at least to everyone. You tell the ones you trust and whom you know are not going to have a problem with it, but it's still nearly impossible to just casually drop that you like both genders or your own gender, regardless of who's listening.

Plus I don't remember seeing tons of homosexual/bisexual characters in ME? I could be wrong though.

Edit: Well... Thane was married too.

Maybe Shepard is his rebound guy. :P

Kidding. He does seem to move on pretty fast from what I've heard.

Forgot about Thane.

Liara counts as bi (regardless of the technicalities -- Kaidan can even comment on this).
Kaidan is bi.
Kelly is bi.
Samara/Morinth is by. (I'm counting them as one.)
Cortez is gay.
Traynor is gay.
Allers is bi.

7 out of 15. That's 47% chance of Shepard running into someone that can have same-sex relationships. That seems a bit high IMHO.

Cortez's husband story was the only thing that bothered me a little. He JUST lost his beloved husband, and now he's sleeping with gay Shepard? That seemed a little quick, no?

Cortez lost his husband at Ferris Fields. Four crewman in ME2 remark about the incident. If ME3 starts about a year after ME2 ends, there's that.
