I hate when people start gold matches without four people. It is really dumb. I only play gold, so it isn't that I am getting put in gold. It is that you can't use equipment or change your character to fit with the group. The fact that they don't understand why this is needed, is reason enough for me to not play with them. I just leave and find a new game.

I will play if put in a match later though. If it looks like someone just left, I stick around.

Well said!

I don't really know how common it is for people searching for Bronze to get dropped into Silver/Gold. I know it happens as I've been dropped into Bronze/Silver when searching for Gold a couple of times myself, but for me those occasions are very, very rare.

So my opinion on this particular issue is:
If you get dropped into an ongoing match and you feel like things are off and then notice you were dropped into a higher/lesser difficulty than you wanted, simply ask yourself if you have the time to spare.

If you have the time to play a potentionally disastrous match, then by all means, just go with it. People that get dropped into lower difficulty levels can simply run with it and try to reduce their consumable utilization to an absolute minimum, shouldn't be too hard at all.

For people that were dropped into higher difficulties than wanted, I do always advice to simply go with the flow. Stick yourself to another player (best not the Infiltratos if you have the choice) and just follow him/her and try your best. It can't be any worse than a total party wipe on wave one, in which case you lost maybe five minutes. If you get past wave three, you already have the credits equal to Bronze completion, if you get past wave six, you have the credits equal for Silver completion. And in any case, you always earn some experience. And if you happen to play with decent players, better yet with ones that communicate, then you can get some really helpful pieces of advice/help to refine your skills.

That is my take on it, never waste a chance to learn.

^ this does seem happen a lot ( looking for bronze and get dumped into gold ).  I think it happens more because they have optimized the join game-in-progress routines.   With the new matchmaking logic we had trouble getting a fourth to play silver so finally we just started and a fourth was added to our game almost immediately.

But I agree with what
Neofelis Nebulosa  said - just give it your best shot.  I had just promoted my GI and was looking for bronze when I got dumped into a Gold match.  Just use your rockets and try to help out, they did not mind, and we made it to wave 8.

Or as a better idea,

Fight like an absolute lunatic and do your best. If somone who has never played a Gold match before gets dumped into one of my matches so long as they move with the fight and contribute its fine by me.

Keep getting N7 2000 with Salarian engineers etc whom cant seem to shoot/use powers or kill anything in particular all the time, yet I had an n7 40 using a Human solly outscore them using a level II GPS in a Glacier run.

BW is most likely going to update the matchmaking system.

In the meantime, join Bronze Effect and add names from the players lists. When I play I either host games for other members or I play in games hosted by members. That way there's no surprise regarding what difficulty we're about to play.

I hope that is sarcasm. I've 3-manned plenty of gold matches.

Unfortunately due to the new matchmaking the options are start with less than 4 players or don't play at all.

The tough thing as a person going into the higher level game is you have generally not prepared for that level and how does and existing group you get tossed in with know the difference between a bronze getting put into a gold and just joining gold with a poor load out of equipment?

Yeah, the jump from Bronze to Gold is pretty huge if you're unfamiliar with Gold, but the bounty and exp. from making it to even midgame can be well worth it for those who get bumped into a Gold match. Just be honest about it to your teammates though.

Bah, you can take FBWGG with a Level 1 Girl Scout with a BB gun as long as you can remember how to drag a robot over the counter and shove an omni-blade in its gizzard.

Oh, the bronze players dropping into gold games are not going to use medi-gel? Oh no! :o We're doomed!

Honestly? I don't care about the performance of most random regular goldplayers, because they are mostly bad, really, really bad, and therefor not much more than a moving decoy. I couldn't care less about the performance of regular bronze players...
Not that I won't revive them, or help them if they are in a sticky situation, I just don't care if they medi-gel, rocketlaunch, kill anything at all or are simply running around the map crying about the many bad enemies shooting them... In the end, they get 80k credits in less than 20 minutes by playing with us, so there is no real reason for them to complain about it.

My friend and I sometimes trap FBWGGers by setting up a game then changing it to unknown/unknown.

As a bronzie, I oppose this. Don't purposely screw over other folks' matches just because you don't like being dumped into a higher level. Do you honest to goodness best, or quit.

Mhm...if they wanna duo or trio a gold match, why not set the last one or two slots privat then? Haha, can do gold solo but can't set the damn lobby up straight. :P

Okay but seriously...I'm willing to trade my ability to handle the lobby for their ability to handle gold matches. :crying: :D

Why don't you AFK and get yourself booted then.
or, y'know...quit?

Intentional AFK is quitting.  Why should I quit?  People starting Gold games shorthanded deserve getting screwed by having non-Gold players stick around.  I go down, they either revive me or be shorthanded.  I know plenty of folks here talk of soloing Gold, so even 3 dead companions should be easy.  Unless, of course, solo Gold runs only work if the game is made easier by throttling the number of enemies.  Some people say no, I say yes.  At one point, even I made it to Wave 10 of a Bronze game by myself, and at that point hadn't had a single Silver extraction.  That required more than luck.  Skill certainly hadn't come yet.

Gold games probably get shorthanded for network reasons just like all others.  I'm now working with the idea that dropping into Wave 8 of a Gold game means at least 10 Bronze-level players dropped in then quit because they didn't want to waste their time dying.  I'm going to be staying and dying to make a point.  Any Gold team that was legitimately short will be paying the penalty for those who just can't wait...

Mojenator12345 wrote...
If all you can do is be a bullet sponge, just be the best bullet sponge you can be.

Nobody in Gold really wants that.  Three still up on a team when the enemy is set for four is bad.  Disagree all you want about how the game gets throttled when you lock it in at fewer than four, but I'm a prime example of how it had to be that way.  Hopefully it'll be a Geth game next time.  They are MEAN now...

I knew I should have clarified that. What I meant is that they can duo/trio the match while they wait for a fourth player.

This. If you're going in public matches, either play the game like you mean it, or don't play at all. A rational player will give you credit for trying, even if you don't pull it off, especially if you got thrown into a Gold match when you set it to search for a Bronze one.

It's fine to screw around in private matches though, in fact they can be quite fun.

Again, why should I be a quitter?  Zero option to disagree with joining plus no extra equipment to make it a fairer fight.  All because some people couldn't wait for more and didn't want a Private game because they knew they'd GET no help.  Kidnappers deserve what they get, and from now on every Gold drop-in will be considered kidnapping rather than troop replacement.

I dislike playing Silver because I use too many gels but I've done it to full extraction several times now.  Gold is 100% death mostly due to being blindsided no matter what I do.  So I avoid getting into Gold lobbies. Everyone was happy, then I read about Gold games starting shorthanded due to matchmaking.  Suddenly it became clear that people were screwing me over rather than network issues, and I feel a need to return the favor.

I'll shoot, I'll Overload, and I'll die.  That's just the way it goes for me in Gold.  Bronze Guardians I can 2-shot through their shields with my modded Valiant need at least 6 in Gold unless I get a slot-shot, and I'm not all that great at those yet.  Then I have to find non-empty ammo boxes, which was HARD last time I needed to do it.  An Atlas in Gold took all the Geth SMG fire I could muster and his armor stayed exactly the same, where I routinely kill them myself in Bronze with the same technique.  Lack of equipment means my best isn't good enough, and I don't carry the stuff to do better all the time because I don't need it in Bronze where I was going.  Rocket launchers are consumables, and I'm refusing to use those or anything else I'd have to replace.

When BioWare fixes it so I don't end up in Gold anymore, everyone will be happier...

So every time a Gold player wants to start shorthanded, make it a Private game.

Permanent shorthandedness will encourage waiting for a full lobby.

Not acceptable?  Too bad.  We will not reach a middle ground because quitting is always good for the other guy even if not for you, and I dislike being a quitter...
