Best damage = 2 dagger Rogue or Mage.
Best Defense = One Sword w/ Shield.
Low Damage & Low Defense = Archer.

Never use 2h sword and never will.:alien:

And here is my point exactly.

Powergamer or math wizard?

And when your Archer can hit from 200 points up....how is that useless?

Duh a sword and shield warrior will have the highest defense. My two-full weapon rogue does just fine damage. I'm not a min-maxer and never will be.

Archery and 2 handed weapons are about as useless as a men's bathroom at a Lillith Fair Show.

In DAO, we fight mostly on tiny room, except in Kochari Wilds of course.

I mean, if you want range damage, Mage is far more better. If you want melee, 2 dagger Rogue.

My 2h wielding warr=225 damage highest so far all playthroughs...
Dualwield rogue highest hit= 89...
*But then that was before last patch, not played through with fixed dex rogue yet*
True attackspeed is way higher, but oneshotting things is kinda effective... No need for backstabbing or any such just a big friggin 2hmace in the face and *kasplutt*
Lower damage but damn high armorpen...= Elite+ mobs get whacked much more than dualdaggering... ;)

And mages only pwn when they have mana and  no cd's:bandit:, archery autodps is way higher than pfjutting with staffs...

And Redcliff....Deep Roads...Dalish Woods...Denerim....

All classes, all types of combat have their place and time.

Hmm.... i never use 2h weapon, maybe i'll try it later.

Do you increase str or dex for 2h sword?

Because i heard they miss A LOT !

Why must it be a 2 dagger rogue? Why must we play for the best character that does the most damage? Why can't we plan for fun, and have a DECENT (note... decent, not the greatest ever) character that doesn't do too shabby in fights?

I'm playing an archer at the moment on ahrd.. 32% of party damage...perhaps i'm doing it wrong but i'm really having fun with ranged combat at the moment.

I prefer 2hand over Archery and would take it over archery in a heartbeat. I've played a Archery warrior and a 2handed. And it just feels gimpy when I play the archer. I don't feel like I'm contributing as much to the team when I'm on the archer. I'm a level away from Stunning Shot so that might change. So far he has every archer talent except that one (get it next level).

Nobody is forcing you to use 2 dagger rogue. I'm just saying that the best damager (for melee) is 2 dagger rogue.

Archery is awesome... as a secondary weapon.

Dedicated archers are meh, though. Not terribad, just mediocre.

You are playing it wrong! Archers are obviously gimped and being successful with one is NOT ALLOWED!

History probably won't remember your anti-climactic longbow charge.

There's a bug that certainly makes crossbows useless.

I use bows... Mostly because it's a better weapon for quick action... IRL that is, and mostly so ingame aswell...
I try all kinds of classes and setups, just for the fun of it!
I must say that the most challenging so far has been trying to play a spiritmage without any points in any other schools until You are fully spirit^^
Gah no dps! =) But way fun^^

And with 2handers You stack STR since Dex does almost nothing for it, just a bit of hit *which ye get from STR aswell*

I played an archer ( rogue archer/ranger/bard) all the way thru on my second play, and had an absolute blast. Enough so that I'm doing it again.

I found archery to have some nice debuffs, stuns, and the ever fantastic Arrow of Slaying, which is a great way to wrap up a boss or mage fight. My biggest hit (not against a boss) was a little over 700 points of damage. Tougher foes I could regularly hit for 2-300. Normal shots were anywhere from the 70s to 100s, crits higher...it all added up. Against a mage, that's a very nice way to bring a fight to a quick conclusion. In long fights, against a high dragon for example, having 2 or 3 Arrows of Slaying fire off along with eveything else while being able to maintain distance is very useful...battle-changing on some fights. Dog in the party makes for a very good team for taking down tough single targets or lines of distant enemies.

Georg Zoeller recommended this mod, which I'm using this time. It's just fantastic, and takes archery to a different level without being too overpowered-

But even without any mods, I really enjoy the rogue/archer build.
