I was only annoyed by the fact that the game practically forced Ryan as a love interest on Jodie. No matter how often I told him "no" he always came back. Even in the end he was like "I will wait for you". No! Don't! Just go away!

lol, me too. I liked Jay a lot more, I wish there was a way for Jodie to flat out tell Ryan she liked the nice Navajo guy who never used and lied to her more than him. :S

Which I assume she does in the Jay ending. Seriously, what kind of douche says he'll wait for you at that point? :pinched:

Just curious, why did you pick Beyond?

Also the disparity between the critic and user reviews is odd. It reminds me of the Hobbit.

Not really, it's David Cage's hipster defense force coming to his rescue.

Okay?  Or people who thought the game was really well done and worked for them.  I could give two sh!ts about David, so keep generalizing Arcian, which you're great at.

Good! At least you are judging the game based on its own merits. After all, David Cage didn't make his games all by himself - there's a lot of less obnoxious people who's been working with him, bless their souls for their patience.

While I personally have a hard time calling his games "games" and I didn't really like either Indigo Prophecy or Heavy Rain, my problem isn't with the games per se. Prior to the release of every single one of David Cage's games (including Beyond), he has gone public in gaming media with some incredibly scathing views of other developers while simultaneously and repeatedly stating that his games are completely groundbreaking and that they will revolutionize what he considers a diseased and dying industry. He's basically like Peter Molyneux but without the charm and humility.

As if that wasn't enough, he's also a hypocrite. At the same time he's accusing other developers of rehashing content, he himself remains a one trick pony who does the same thing in every game - long, interactive scenes with QTEs. Based on the reception Beyond has gotten, I do believe gaming media is starting to get tired of hearing him overhype his own games, badmouthing other developers and delivering the same game with different covers.

As long as you like Beyond because you think it's a good game, great. Just don't do like most of Cage's most vocal fans and hail him as the second coming of Jesus Christ in the games industry. He's not. He's just an arrogant asshat who talks big about himself and trash about his competitors. The real people behind the good parts of his games don't get to stand in his spotlight.

That is the thing I don't understand though, base the game off of what experience you get from playing it, not who's behind it. Personally, I went into the game with no hype, I forgot it was coming out till I got a shipment notice - rofl and what David said during pre-release and release is irrelevant to me. The acting that Ellen Page did was wonderful, the score behind the game was brilliant for my tastes and how it expressed the scenes and I found that the story sucked me in and I couldn't wait to get back into it. The game has flaws - the gameplay for example, not the QTEs, but specifically the "slow down" moments with combat felt a bit hit or miss or I was generally just terrible at certain moments and otherwise, that was my only complaint.

Personally, that is how I judge a game. Over-hype and hypocrites are a norm in the gaming industry and more so - any industry. And I find a lot of people have this type of mindset, if they go into a game with a negative outlook, they'll more than likely still have that same mindset coming out of it and I don't see the point of them trying to play it, if they had a feeling or "knew" they weren't going to enjoy it.

Also, every gamer is different depending on their own experiences and how the game reflects those moments that could trigger certain elements that might either be positive or negative and this game had a few of those with me.

That's a good attitude you have there. Like I was trying to say, I'm not really saying anything about Beyond as a product (haven't played it so wouldn't be right if I did), I'm just saying the game's user score may be schewed by the small and disproportionately vocal amount of David Cage fans who thinks he's the only genius in an industry of idiots when the truth is that he's a small but disproportionally vocal part of a larger development team that doesn't necessarily share his scathing views of the industry.

As it is now, he comes off as a monumental tosspot who makes his team look bad to people who isn't throwing themselves at his feet and calling him a "golden god".

The same type of douche who starts a "When this is over can we try to make it work?" conversation after he lied to Jodie big time and didn't get the hint when she told him that she doesn't love him while both of them think they'll freeze to death and have no reason to lie.  :wizard:

I did attack your argument though. It isn't my fault that you're not perceptive enough to recognise it.

No, you made a judgement on me that had nothing to do with what I said.

Please look harder, Miss. I've very little time for people who misrepresent the posts of others on account of poor reading comprehension.

You started off with "You're the sort of person", even if you didn't mean to - you indirectly are attacking him, not his stance on the writing.

I'm beginning to notice a correlation between poor reading comprehension skills and liking Beyond: Two Souls. Hmm.

Or maybe it is just good and there is no conspiracy.

Maybe. But the most likely explanation is that the fans of this game have horrible taste in writing.

Okay, I saw most of the game now by watching a friend play it. I liked it a lot better than I expected! Guess I'll do a playthrough of my own in the future. Probably with my sister playing Jodie and me playing Aiden. ^^

Ryan is such a douchebag. I especially liked the end of the date scene in Jodie's apartment.

Jodie: *all teared up and shaking* We had a great time, I obviously like you a lot, and I obviously want to be (read: sleep) with you, but it's just as obvious that I can't do that right now because I experienced something traumatic in the past, which lead to the emotional breakdown you're witnessing right now. *cries*

Ryan: *Commander Shepard voice* I should go. *leaves*

Me and my friend: **** you, Ryan!

Haha, I thought about doing that. I didn't because Jodie seemed to really want to go down that path, whether to feel "normal" or maybe she just liked the guy, I decided to let her make her own mistakes.

Same here. I hoped that I could smack him around when he went the Commander "I should go" Shepard route. But no Roaring Rampage of Birthday Party Revenge #2 for me. :(

My brother in law picked this up and I'm weighing checking it out, can I expect David Cage's trademark broken narrative on this one?

Just finished the game and I was definitely in the same boat -- they pushed Ryan as the LI way too hard. I figured I would get out of it the moment I rejected him at the dinner...

It actually made me miss how in Heavy Rain if you avoid letting Ethan and Madison kiss, it shuts down the romance subplot pretty much full stop.

Is there a character called Shimasani in this game? Do the characters call her that, is it her name because that's a silly name for a woman.

Grey, I loved the game - and the story for me was excellent.  It goes off a moments where you play Jodie as child, then straight to her being in another country, then another part of her life - it all ends up tying together towards the end.  So if that feels like broken narrative, I'd stay away.

Ellen Page did a beautiful job and I do recommend you play it, but it might not be for you.

^ Pretty much that.

It was one of my favourite games of the year, (probably #1, actually.) but it isn't for everyone. And the seemingly random order of events actually more or less has an explanation in-game, too.

There is. An old Navajo woman. Exactly what the name implies, if the internet isn't lying to me about the meaning of the name ^_^

For me Beyond: Two Souls is the best game of all times, not just of this year :)

I believe this game has set new storytelling quality standards, unreachable by most game and movie developers. Looks like there are two best storytellers right now: Quantic Dream, and Naughty Dog... I hope BioWare will join the party soon enough. They can do it.

Shimasani translates to "My Maternal Grandmother", I was just wondering if the game treated it  as the woman's name.

Name one game you think is bad which isn't a first person shooter.
