Thanks for the input guys, I don't really have so much a problem with a randomized order of events. What I mean by broken narrative is that David Cage has always had some interesting ideas for scenes but so far lacked the skill to tie them together in a satisfying fashion. Certain scenes in his previous games Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain ended up being pointless, while others ended up becoming plot holes. Though if he's managed to pull it off this time I'll give it a try.

There are a few chapters that feel pointless but are still rather well done. Navajo for example is rather pointless, but it sill remains my favorite chapter.

Well if they at least provide some decent characterization I guess it'll be fine, maybe.

My brother in law picked this up and I'm weighing checking it out, can I expect David Cage's trademark broken narrative on this one?

Well if you are just borrowing then you might as well check it out. :wizard: As per the narrative, and I am by no means a literary critic but the narrative seemed cohesive enough up until the most recent events in the timeline then I got lost. Maybe I missed something though.

The chronological order of events, where did the assassination, the end game sequences, etc, fit with the timeline. The prologue seemed way out of place to me.

When the game moves onto a new chapter you get a screen showing how the time line fits together
The term "Prologue" refers only to the opening narration which occurs at the end of the story and is not to be confused with the watch-only chapter "Broken"
the later section of the timeline is...
"The Mission"  - the assissination
"Hunted" - eluding capture
"Homeless"
"Broken" - the non-interactive scene at the beginning with her arrested
"Navajo"
"Old Friends"
"Dragon's Hidout"
"Black Sun"

I'd say that in comparison to Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain Beyond is easily David Cage's most coherent, least broken game narratively. I like all three, but Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain had serious flaws that prevented them from being the games/interactive experiences they could have been.

Beyond isn't without flaws, but this time they are few and don't take away much from the experience. Ellen Page did a great job with her performance as Jodie! Dafoe was good as well, although I'd prefer future games not to feature too many well know actors. Well, not their likeness at least. Dafoe's performance as Dawkins without the character looking exactly like him would've made the game more immersive for me.

Still, a damn good game, probably my favourite this year so far!

Is it just me, or Zoey ending really looks much more like canon for a possible sequel than any other ending?

Thought the same.

Most of the endings foreshadow the same thing but the Zoey and the Beyond ending seem more... "connected" to it then the others. Both have more or less the same future scene with Jodie and Zoey watching the new Black Sun. Just once with Jodie in her physical form and once with spirit Jodie.

I'm already hyped for a sequel/dlc! :D

Completed Beyond about 90 min ago and chessus did this game achive far above my expectations. It's unbelieveable. So didn't think it would hit this well with me but it apparently hit better than most games ever do.

Yeah, there is something about it, right?  One of the scenes that hit me was actually a scene that didn't really showcase much, but it was when she was afraid to get the book, I don't know - for some reason I just found it well done.

Absolutely! There's just "something" that i will never be able to give a name that is there and just work so well with me. I did also love that scene, it's a simple scene that just showcase so much. One scene that i'd like to just say how much i adore is when Jodie ask Cole to keep the light on. In any other medium/game i'd not even remember the scene but here it's deeply rooted in my memory

I believe each episode has something special in addition to just being amazingly well made.

Spoilers below.

So I took some time to think about the endings and have come to the Conclusion that the Alone ending is my favorite and in my opinion, most fitting ending.

In this order: Love Ryan----> dump Ryan----> get back together with Ryan-----> Unintentionally ****** off Nathan at the black sun, Nathan kills Ryan----> Choose Life---> Choose alone---> Blatant sequel tease.

I just fits.

Originally I had went with the Jay ending, however a distinct problem I see with both the Jay ending and the Ryan ending is that the sequel tease blatantly invalidates them. What is the point of choosing those two if Jodie just eventually ends up leaving them anyhow?

As for the Beyond ending, I don't like it. It feels forced too me and the main plot suddenly shifting and being placed upon Zoey is jarring, I get this same feeling with the homeless ending.

I just feel it makes the most sense for Jodie to experience profound loss and for this loss to motivate her to set off alone and dedicate her life to stopping entities with Aiden at her side. It is kind of depressing but it is fitting and keeps with the tone that the game sets.

More spoils talk.

I've also been thinking about the endings quite a bit and i've tried to see each ending from so many different positions. All in all i more or less like them all and they all got reasons for why they are awesome which is impressive. Hard to find good endings sometimes in games and here we already have plenty of them.

I personally went with life with Ryan and it's the ending that i enjoy the most. Going from being a bit antagonistic against him and adopting Aiden's stance but over the course of the game i slowly turned into a more favourable stance and i just see Jodie and him like a great couple. Did consider going with the homeless and after seeing the tease it gained strength but i'm sticking with the life with Ryan ending.

The tease is obviously interesting and there's so much that can be made out of it. I'm reading it as soly a tease and while so much can be interpreted from it i'll for now not read too much into it. Might need a while to ponder on this and eventually perhaps change stance or stick with the current one.

See, this is why I hate the f***er, his bloated, attention-craving ego completely overshadows the efforts of his team. He's just a talentless, obnoxious face for Quantic Dream, completely unworthy of any praise directed his way.
