Hello,

I was wondering if you could help me with my next character.  I plan to be a blood mage but what stats should I go for?

Should I go for Magic over WIllpower or the other way around?  Should I get any other stats?

Thanks in Advance

Just found this guide: http://www.waukster....ood-mage-guide/

looks like I will need Magic / Constitution with a little bit of Will Power.

That guide is an absolute joke!

1. ATTRIBUTES

Don't waste attribute points on anything except Magic.

You'll get loads of mana and a decent amount of health (6/4) every level anyway.

You'll get tons of items that give like +50 Stamina (= +10 Willpower), +10 Constitution (Lifegiver), +12 Constitution (Blood-gorged amulet).

You'll regenerate mana/health almost instantly after each battle, with the latest patch.

OTOH:

There are VERY FEW items that boost spellpower, and some of them occupy slots that are better used for other items (e.g. Blood-gorged amulet >> Lifedrinker).

Magic = Spellpower, which improved all your abilities, giving you more spellpower (Spell Might), spell damage, armor, defense, attack and melee damage (if you're an Arcane Warrior), and probably most importantly, your Save-or-Die/Save-or-Suck spells have a better chance of succeeding.

Another GREAT benefit of Magic is that YOU GET MORE FROM POTIONS. With about 80 Magic, my wizard was getting I think more than twice as much HP from a Lesser Healing Potion than my warrior. Same with mana/Lyrium potions. This is a GREAT ASSET, as it conserves you money and actions in combat.

In short, on a point-per-point basis a point in Magic is worth more for a mage than a point in any other attribute. And there is no reason to invest into other attributes, as there are items and leveling benefits which greatly improve them anyway.

2. ITEMS!

If you're a Blood Mage, keep the Blood Ring handy! (get it by completing the optional arena fights in Orzammar Provings). It DRASTICALLY REDUCES COST OF SPELLS when using Blood Magic. And I mean by like a THIRD!

Robe of Avernus (Warden's Keep) also does this, but is a much less useful item overall. I prefer to wear Wade's Superior Dragonskin (medium armor) on my Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage, because of the awesome -25% fatigue, as well as +25 Stamina/Mana, +50% fire resistance and +5 defense.

Be sure to pick up Lifegiver (Orzammar merchant, pretty expensive but worth it), and the Blood-gorged amulet (for free, Shale's quest).

3. USE THE BLOOD SACRIFICE FIX!

Blood Sacrifice was supposed to be useable on all allies, not just party members. Says so in the description, and that's the way enemies use it. With this fix, available in my projects, you can use blood sacrifice on mind-controlled enemies. Makes both Blood Control and Blood Sacrifice much more useful, and gives you more runtime with Blood Magic, since Blood Sacrifice is basically the only way to efficiently replenish your health in this mode (do NOT waste potions, they'll be nerfed to like 10% of their normal power!).

4. Learn to cycle between modes. E.g. open with a Fireball, switch to Blood Magic, then Blood Wound on the mobs, Blood Control on the scariest guy (usually Mage or Ogre), Blood Sacrifice on him, turn Blood Magic off, mop up.

That's it for now, happy bloodmaging!
