Hey folks! I'm still working on more pieces from the 'Mass Effect Aliens with Parrots' series ( here: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/368/index/11941684 ) but in the meantime, have some Raloi sketches.  I was always really sad that they never made it into the games.

At first I drew them looking all leggy-- like stork-turian hybrids-- but they eventually ended up much fluffier. They seem to have settled into some alien cockatoo-cardinal hybrid.

Portrait of a male Raloi:

Female Raloi at a console:

Environment suit concept (still not happy with this one...looks too much like a cross between a quarian suit and a female krogan's outfit.)

There are a few more on my tumblr if you're interested.

Thanks for looking!

You could go the road less taken and make them look akin to vultures. They're odd enough to most people, alienizing them would only accentuate that.

I do think these are really awesome sketches though, just offering an idea in case you're stumped.

While they are certainly good drawings, I don't think they look... alien enough. They just look like birds to me. I know they are birdlike, but they don't need to just be humanoid birds. I hope this is taken the right way. I don't mean to put you down or anything, the drawings are great I just think they should look more alien, I guess.

Could you try mkaing different versions of the ralio? Your art is amazing but these doesn't really say 'raloi', at least not for me. The female one looks closer to what I've imagined, but try do something more interesting with their heads instead of just that of a normal bird.

Again, these are just my thoughts, and I absolutely love your art, so take no offense. I just didn't agree with your interpretion of their visual appearance :)

Your sketches are great, but they do look too much like ordinary birds. If anyone has played the Metroid series, remember the Chozo species. I image the Raloi to look similar to them. Here is a great example of one:
