The top disk holder button inside of the case has slowly been cracking the inside plastic of the game disk... Disk 1 to be exact.

I have never had this happen to me before and I am very carefull about handling my disks. Please someone in support help me out here.

What I would recommend is braking the holder button and putting the disc in a sleeve or spare cd case. Its what I do with all my games (I don't brake the holder, but considering how poorly designed the ME3 collectors edition case was) and then I put them in a cd binder, mostly for travel convenience, but with some of these metal cases for protection from the holder itself.

I hate game cases that do this. I destroyed 2-3 Saturn games, my collectors edition of MORTAL KOMBAT ARMEGEDDON, seriously damaged my copy of CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS, and was very difficult to pull out ASSASSIn'S CREED 1. I do not know why game manufacturers do that to us gamers and I find that rediculous. Either gently pull it out and put it in a CD case or something or gently pull it out or grab a knife or something razor sharp and carfully saw one or two of the game holders for an easier pull out/put in less damageing game case. I did that to my ASSASSIN'S CREED 1 game case. That was a good call on my part. If you are afraid of damageing disc and case I would try to contact BIOWARE and let them know about the game case issue.

I sanded down the little plastic holder things until it was small enough to take out the disk without too much resistance.

If you didn't know, you're supposed to press down on the center holder while you are removing or placing a disc from/in a case.

And yes, you can put it into a soft case or sleeve, but some of those can scuff up the back of your game with scratches.

I'm pretty much in the exact same ship as the original poster here. I treat my games carefully, and generally don't change games much (if at all), so the game tends to stay until I finish. I know about pressing the center thing in, and I've done that, but apparently not enough, as the disc is developing cracks. Thus for the last month or so I haven't even put the discs back in their original case. Which is a shame, since the case is rather pretty.

Seems like the collectors editions of games seem to have the worst cases. I would just put them in a jewel case, or paper sleeve. And install the game to the hard drive if you haven't already. I'm sure if it has started cracking, the constant spinning from the disc drive will make it worse.

I installed it to the drive before I even started playing, but it still insists on having the correct disk present for that section of the game.

So I am not the only one that has their CE case breaking their game. I am going to get some inner disk protection stickers to keep it from getting worse and I have put it in a old dual DVD case that I lost the movies for. But yeah I would wonder if this was a ploy by EA to ensure that they sold more copies cause the games broke ( which wouldn't make much sense, since people would just go and buy a replacement used copy for less and they wouldn't get the money anyways).

I had the same thing happen to my disc 1. I finally just started laying it in the case and not snapping it in :(

Disk 2 is flaking away fro the center on my basic xbox game. Never had a problem with a CD or DVD do this before. Disc 2 on the PC version wouldn't read correctly. Had to replace entire ME2 game for xbox due to read problems, so EA doesn't have a real good track record for production quality in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm thinking of picking up a used copy somewhere. Then the CE disks can stay nice and pretty in their case while the used disk does the work.

That being said, does anyone know if you need the actual disk that you installed the game from, or even the same set. For instance, would a regular edition of ME3 work despite the fact that I isntalled it (and used the code from) my CE edition? I'd think it should work, but one never knows...

It's ok to use regular version and have collectors benefits.

I noticed the problem from day one and used a dual dvd case I had laying around to store the game disks and used a gamestop advertising dvd cover i picked up from my GS manager friend to make it look nice... LOL

Kinda dumb that they designed it like that... and to add insult to injury, one of my disks was "loose" when I got my game anyway. Really did a great job of securing the disk from the manufacturing site LMAO.

Sad thing is, this isn't a new issue. CE's are notorious for terrible case design. The case can be beautiful, but they've been horribly design since GoW2. My friend had to buy a new GoW2 because the CE case screwed it up. And nowadays its not just the CE that are designed badly. Both my BC2 and MW2 cracked or were scratched up from taking it in and out of the case. In fact, MW2 was the first game to start the trend of badly packaged games.
