The online component can not be solely for DRM purposes since the game is being released on the PS3 an 360. This is going to be a way to turn multiplayer into a way for you to really take advantage of the environment and abilities you have as the character. At least that's how he made it sound. Either way, simply adding an online component is not a reason to hate a game. I generally loathe multiplayer as a rule, but I've played more MP3 multiplayer than it took me to finish the campaign, and I'm a Max Payne fiend.

Kinda like me with Uncharted 3. Naughty Dog is still updating it with new game modes and the lab alone is so fun. Multiplayer is some of the best gaming I've had but I still enjoy a good singleplayer game.
This is making me think of the Counter-Op in Perfect Dark where your friend can play the bad guys trying to stop you.

Watch Dog’s second character was another player: “online is in the DNA of Watchdogs” A bit more info on the online.

“Basically, Jonathan, our creative director was playing agent Pearce at the conference, and I was playing another character, who hacked into him, who had his own objective and we crossed paths. It was basically two players who crossed paths with their own objectives.”

In the conference demo, the character that Guay was playing watched the carnage that Jonathan was causing from afar. After apparently scanning Johnathan’s brain, he turned and vaulted over some rooftops in a different direction entirely, it sounds now as though he was pursuing an entirely different mission in the same city.

It’s a situation that doesn’t fit neatly into your traditional “co-op” and “competitive” multiplayer pigeon holes, but the idea of players interacting through co-incidence and experiencing the collateral damage of each other’s independent objectives is intriguing.

This I like.

Sucks if you can't have two people pelvic thrusting each other while pedestrians stare on.

Has a lot of similarities to Dark Souls' online component - now that I like.

Will be interested to see how this game turns out - what I've seen and heard so far intrigues me greatly.

So, here's the gameplay with the "intrusion" mode on[/quote]

So I guess this might have been unintentional from their end, but we actually learn some things about the story from this. Pearce doesn't work alone, and there are several people "intruding" in this game and you can see them all flagged as the camera pulls away. Also, the agent watching Pearce is told to follow him and protect him. Sounds like the co-op could include the option to assist in someone else's campaign.

Another thing i noticed was the physics for this game with the gun damage to the car seemed so realistic, the multi-player mode has just opened up a whole new can of worms, hopfully you can customize your character so he has his own bad ass assassin look . really looking forward to this

Interview for Watch Dogs, IGN

Cannot wait for this game!

Interesting point around 4:10 - "It's not like an RPG, where the character grows, it's this network - all this information he's gathered, more analogue, player moment to moment will decide how to do that"

This may be innovative multiplayer (multiplayer, how innovative!) or it may be Ubi cleverly integrating draconian DRM with online game design. I'm glad it's not an RPG, otherwise I'd feel like I was missing out on something.

What you guys come on the internet to complain about the internet or something?
Its 2012 almost every gaming company is pretty much embracing the internet. Either accept that or your gaming choices are going to be very limited.
I sure know a 2nd player in my game isn't enough to ruin it for me.

I'm not complaining about the internet, silly goose.  Multiplayer is simply of no interest to me, I'll never play MP, so if a game is designed with that as its core then it's not my game.  There is also a difference between using the internet for initial authentication and patching versus keeping most of the game online.

Otherwise perhaps I'm jaded by the suspicion that forcing players online is about intrusive DRM and charging for micro-content.  Ubisoft certainly hasn't earned my trust in this regard.

More than one team is working on Watch Dogs. The maker of the Driver series, Ubisoft Reflections, is aiding main developer Montreal in the creation process.

According to GM Giselle Stewart:

“Reflections has been attentively watching the reaction to Watch Dogs at E3.

“The studio is very excited to be working with Ubisoft Montreal on this new IP, and is currently expanding its Newcastle-based team developing for the title. We have openings available for talented Creative Directors, Senior Gameplay Programmers and experienced GUI Artists.”

Watch Dogs is set for a 2013 launch. It’ll be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and possibly Wii U.

Meh...I'm not that easily impressed anymore.

I'm rather skeptical on the amount of real "freedom". Look interesting, but looks can be VERY decieving.

Also, hacking everything trough a phone? HM...superman just started to seem a bit more plausible...

This looks so fantastic. But I'm confused. Is this a SP or MP? Or, they're trying to bundle it? I....don't understand.

Let's say I don't want my SP intruded on. Do I have a choice, or is that the game? And if I do have a choice, will the SP be some half baked, 8 hour bs campaign...because I didn't want to be intruded on?

I like MP. Don't get me wrong, but I'm rarely in the mood for that. It's more of a side dish to the SP for me. And I don't want game devs arranging play dates for me....

It looks like a great game. I want this game. But if it's MP heavy, then it's not the game for me. That would suck! Lol. But that's the way it goes.

Don't you mean a PS4? Or is it no longer planned for as a next gen title?

"Planned for all home consoles" so who knows and release in 2013. We don't know if the Durango and Orbis are being released this year.
