Submachine Guns as a class Need a Serious Buff

SMGs, as a class used appropriately, should be more devistating than an AR that is why you carry them. The GPSMG has potential but it spins up too slow let's face it none of these weapons are near as effective, close range, as the P90 or the MP7.

I wish I had a hurricane so I could see if it lives up to the legacy of the P90 or MP7 heck or even the Thompson.  However, one gun does not make up for the lack of the class

Yup SMG's are slightly better then AR's which is very sad for people who like AR's like myself.

Like I said SMGs should out perform an AR at close range that is the reason they exist.

Why buff SMGs when they weigh half as much as an AR and do the same damage?

If anything ARs need a buff.

The only 2 things I have to say about SMGs are:
1. The Locust needs more damage.  I miss its power from ME2, a step in that direction would be nice.
2. Hopefully the next dlc gives us an ultra-rare SMG that is good, or at least decent.  I feel that SMGs missed the ultra rare boat.

Other than that they're fine.  I'm liking the Hornet now that it's getting into the higher levels, but I'm still waiting for my Hurricane :whistle:

The Hurricane is a promotional weapon. It should not be used as the example by which the entire class of weapon is judged.

All weapon classes other than sniper rifles and heavy pistols need a buff.

SMGs are the sidearm weapon. If ULM worked then they would be fine as a secondary on any character.

I don't agree that SMGs are sidearms, they are often carried into actual CQB situations as the main firearm, and yes, ME MP has maps that work like that.

Even a carbine can be a bit to big for all situations, especially in special forces work.

they are supposed to be weak. they weigh nothing. a hurrican with ULM (which works on the hurricane btw) has like a 3-7% difference in cooldown and is super powerful.

The Tempest is awesomely insane. It does more damage than the avenger or vindicator or even mattock. The geth SMG could use a damage boost. The Locust definetly needs a damage boost, its the SMG with least rounds in a clip (i think) and is supposed to be used at long range but it doesnt do its thing. Usually weapons with low clips are the ones who deals the most damage. The locust should be this type of SMG that deals more damage but sacrifices clip amount.

smgs can be equiped with a mod that can make them 90% lighter and a damage or ammo upgrade. This can make you have a seriously low cooldown, especially for power-based classes.

Besides that, they're good as secondary weapons for snipers. 

try using some ammo power-ups, the damage mod, and a high-level one. 


but besides that, they are a little bit underpowered...

Just because they don't kill as fast as a -20% Sniper Rifle does not mean they need a buff.

(If it took 150 shots to kill a Centurion you must be a terrible shot... It only takes 20-40)


On gold with a gethfiltrator specced for full weapon damage in his passive tree, and hunter mode On specced for full weapon damage it takes 110 body shots, and 40 head shots. So if you have decent aim you can do it in under 100 with a mix of head and bodyshots but 20 is waaaaay off.

hurricane definitely needs a buff....hornet? its dps is aweful(sarcasm)!! the tempest is pretty good regardless of what people say. gpsmg is extremely accurate and works well at applying ammo powers. shuriken? no one cares. ive never really used a locust but i imagine its decent too. when ulm actually works they will be awesome weapons

ME2 system was good, all around balance (not including DLC weapons). Why would anyone take smg/ar over pistol in this game? Lolz

I hate the low damage on SMGs, but I'm much more surprised how inaccurate and recoil they have. I can hardly keep my Hornet on the head when beyond 5 meters. I'd have to use equipment to stabilize it. Even against unshielded, unarmored enemies, they take like 5 seconds to kill on gold. I would use the Geth SMG more, but it's not really designed to use with casters. I find the burst fire from a Shuriken more useful than Hornet. Locust is bad, but I use it for massive clip + taking out shields.

All of my non-black rares are X.

Drummernate is probably a bronze or silver player. LIke I said on another thread earlier, I don't care if they talk about these guns, but bronze and silver players really shouldn't be saying weather a gun is "good" or not, cause you never really understand that until you play gold and having the perfect weapon is crucial.
