DAMN YOU BIOWARE. GRRR

Okay, so we have two thirds of the ensemble already. Let's see... we've had approximately a billion stupid boring ass humans. We've had two boy elves, and one girl elf.

But... no dwarves whatsoever. WHAT MADNESS IS THIS.

Come the next game I think you should mix things up a bit and make us a dwarf or two to love. Male or female, doesn't matter. It would be so cool. Humans are getting very dry and boring. Elves are ok; mind you, if they existed in real life I'd be all over them, but they shouldn't be overused. Dwarves are hot.

Oh, and DON'T exclude female dwarves from the next game. It's a sad world when it's full of ugly women with no hips. DA needs its short, curvacious ladiez. ^_^

If someone needs a dwarf to soothe their jaded romantic sensibilities-- "I desire someone short for a change. Patron! Bring me a dwarf!" -- then I'm afraid I can't help them.

Because I hate dwarves. It has been spoken. B)

Well, I don't actually hate dwarves. People say I do, however, so it must be true.

Still not interested in making a romance for them, however, though Varric was tempting.

Oh, you're right! I somehow completely forgot multiple origins. So Bioware already knows how to do it. Animations have become increasingly complicated but that also means designers can do more challenging things with character models. That can't be the problem. It's an issue of values.

In DAO we were allowed to identify with dwarves but not fall in love with them (or at the very least express our emotions like with Aveline). I think it's time to break this pattern and share the love with all races of Thedas.

I really have enough to contend with regarding giving real-world genders and sexualities equal opportunity in romances without having people imply they've some right to romance all in-game races as well. I mean, come on. If you're keen to romance a dwarf, just say so. It's hardly an issue of fairness.

As for difficulty, it's not much of an issue if we know the relative heights of the models involved. A DA2 romance with Varric would have been simple enough because we know that we have one human and one dwarf involved. We didn't do it because we didn't want to-- or, rather, because we wanted to do the other romances more. End of story.

I'm curious at to why David doesn't want to write a dwarven love interest.

I'm just not yet at the point where I feel the need to appeal to niche interests, or write romances geared specifically for those who have played so many romances that they need something different just to shake things up. I'm not specifically against it, to be honest, and had I known Varric would end up like he did I might even have planned it differently (hindsight is great that way). Regardless, I'm not seeking out dwarves to make into love interests and have no interest in starting.

It's not that complicated, is it? The question isn't "why not do it?" ...it's not as if game romances automatically manifest if there aren't enough reasons not to write them. Or maybe some people think that's how it should work. I can't really tell any more. ^_^
